Just tried there and got trhe "registration failed"

I registered using Android app and bank account from N26, which is Germany based. Maybe that helps.

Looking at the old map, it looked like Waterford-ish was muted as a location. Doesn't seem to be materialising as an option though.

Somebody asked earlier, does anybody know when the Kill Ionity chargers are expected to open ?

No idea, they are not fully installed yet

I drove Dublin to Cork yesterday and pulled in for a nose .
The one I pulled in at is designated Kill North I assume .
There is a truck section in the corner , in there there is a plot of ground dug up with a fence around it . No further progress was evident.
No fresh concrete structure for transformers that I could see , eg in cashel this is like a small concrete shed .
So I’d guess kill north will be june or July.

Looking across while driving past kill south you coujd see the new concrete transformer shelters , with doors open .
No sign of charging units , but I was looking across quickly while driving ..
So kill south looks like it will open long before kill North.
Maybe someone passing can call in for a nose around .
At a guess fro watching cashel I’d say 2-3 weeks more for kill south then a long wait for Kill North

Thanks for the update, they seem to be a long time building these.

I was hoping to use them tomorrow ;(

So look like Ionity came out and said it:

    https://bit.ly/2SaBOvS?fbclid=IwAR1Ml1K3TPducpvXwXO2-l2UQpuxyHrPh8NcgvrIMFWTxBbhjUXFNsG-Ndc

In fact, the "teslars" had become his frequent visitors, when ionity offered the service with the initial flat rate of 8 euros per recharge. In Superchargers, 8 euros allow a maximum of 25-26 kWh of recharge, while with Ionity the owner of a "long range" Tesla could forfeit up to 100 kWh. Thus we witnessed the paradox of a service provided at a loss by the Germans also in favor of their main, and more energetic, American competitor. A “gift” that Ionity still reserves today to the customers of the partner houses through the agreements: Charging Service of the Audi e-tron, the me Charge of Mercedes, the ChargeNow of BMW, the Charging Service of Porsche and the WeCharge of Volkswagen. On the contrary: Ionity makes it known that it is open to agreements with other MSPs. For all these programs, the rates applied by Ionity are around 30 cents per kWh .

They are just doing the same that Tesla did, Tesla or any other Manufacturer are free to give you a card and pay half of your usage if they want (or pass on the cost to the customer)

Not sure how that sits as some ionity chargers (not sure about how many) were co-funded by the EU. https://ionity.eu/_Resources/Persistent/ff3594777138e66e75dcef2cd016cc4f712dece4/20190425_EUROP-E_press_release.pdf

Would be interesting knowing how that works

    I think I read 20% EU funded, maybe that's why is 79c/kWh instead of 99c/kWh ;)

Thats not really how it works, Tesla is getting 300 million in EU Funding for their Factory in Berlin, that doesn't make the cars cheaper anymore than the Connecting Europe Facility for Transport' (CEF-T) program (39.1 Million Euros) makes high value DC Supply Cheaper.

I mean by that argument you could argue the EU Taxpayer is funding Tesla to the tune of 300 million Euros so all EU Tax payers should get equal access to it's Supercharger network.

I charged this evening at Ionity Citynorth with a Model 3 SR+ ~50% full. CCS station 2 gave me only 30kW. Called support and moved to CCS 1...where I got 41kW.

I gave up and headed further along the road. But they were pretty quick in issuing the bill. €1.86 inc VAT for 2.357 kWh provided at best at 41kW.

Strange, I've charged at both those stations in my Ioniq and gotten >60 kW there last month so something must be up.

That said I was charging a Model S at a Tesla super charger last night and it slowed down to 43kW after about 60% full ;(

If you want higher charging speeds during colder weather the consensus seems to be, “hammer it” to your charge point if possible to get your battery up to a decent temperature and arrive with a lower SOC. Plugging in with a cold battery and higher SOC will only give you lower charging speeds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 223 ✭✭Irishjg

Sorry for the additional post, I just want to add. This is predominantly the case with highly efficient EVs that by their nature do not drive up the battery temps easily and/or do not have a heat pump.

It was 11 degrees yesterday, surely a model 3 couldn't be "coldgating" in that?

As far as I know the TM3 prefers a hot battery for higher charge rate. Somewhere around 40 degrees. That’s the battery temp by the way not the air temperature lol.

Yes, but also regen braking and stay off the friction brakes.

Yes true but you won’t get much regen travelling on the main routes heading to an Ionity or equivalent unfortunately.

Try to focus more on optimal battery temp rather that the actual air temperature. The car doesn’t care what the air temperature is. The battery temp and battery SOC are what determines the charging rates.

I think I saw on that Norwegian chaps video that the Teslas preheat the batteries when you mac to a supercharger. Must be to address the slow charge issue.

I dunno. The Gorey interchange has a set of linked mini roundabouts that ought to do the trick.

I see a Tesla at Ionity Athlone said all stations broken there yesterday as reported on plugshare app. I was there today, not charging and all Ionity stations were unoccupied on arrival and leaving. On the Ionity app it says all OK, so which is it?!

I did. I would have hit 160km/h on the way there and was driving for over an hour at motorway speed. The car should have been warmed up.

Ignore my previous post about eins - it seems price is now 83c/kWh using this provider, so not much improvement over Ionity app price.
Chargepoint still shows price of 742c/session - I guess it will take time for this recent price rise to filter out to providers.

Maingau is still working at 40c this morning

I guess Maingau will stay the same as their model is a fixed price / kWh, I signed up for Chargepoint, doing a long distance drive on Friday past Sevenum in NL.

Hope it stays that price until Friday:pac:

Rumours from Germany are that Maingau will suck up the price increase for a period of time. I suspect they'll change their mind if a lot of people register and start using them.

It would be nice if Hyundai/KIA got their own charging app for Ionity with similar prices like German manufacturers.
