I signed up with Maingau and the app has worked fine but I could never get the RFID Card to work. Do you need to do some further registration after you receive it in the post

It may go up in price from 1st February. Then it will be X + 0.05/kWh

The price changes in February were mainly expected for BMW and VW.

I don't think Maingau is going to change theirs, because it covers more than just Ionity and they are giving the charge to their own electricity customers for even less.

Then again .. there is always that risk. But there is no monthly sub, so nothing lost either way.

I'll watch Chargepoint closely. If it's going to stay at 7.42.

I charged my Kona at the Ionity chargers in Athlone a couple of times. From what I saw, the max speed was 50kWh.
Is that the max charge speed of the Kona, I couldn't find that detail anywhere online!
Or is that the max of the Ionity chargers in Athlone?

If the battery is too cold then the Kona will restrict charge speed.

However Athlone is known to give issues.

Full speed on a Kona should be something like 77 kw.

Why your car isnt giving that isnt clear.

Charge speed also depends of your state of charge and is reduced when the battery is getting closer to full charge.

Max 77kW, Should be faster than that unless the car is too cold/too hot.

I also have a Kona and the max speed I have achieved is something just above 50kWh at Athlone. Low battery temp was suggested as the cause.

I purchased an OBD dongle and installed the Torque App and checked the battery temps. It is very hard to raise the battery temperature of the Kona just by driving and the most I could get it up to was 18-19C at winter temps. I was told that it might need to be above 25C to get maximum charge speeds.

In my opinion the battery heater is sort of redundant when it cannot be used to help achieve optimum battery temp to ensure maximum charge speeds. I have never seen the battery heater engage so it must cut in at -5C or -10C.

Thanks a million Redcup, I just checked my app and neither my RFID card or fob were registered on it. Have them added now which is great as i need to use it on Saturday.

Right. First attempt at Ionity Athlone Circle K.

Free CCS/Chademo Circle K didn't work, no error, nothing.

Tried Ionity #1 via Charge my EV (Bosch) app, got stuck, got an error.
Tried starting the charge via ChargePoint app with a QR code which worked immediately. I was charged 7.42 euro.

I'm fine with ChargePoint for now.

So 15C is a cut off point on a 50kWh charger and the battery heater comes on when you start charging at below 15C and cuts out when you reach that.

I wonder is there a higher cut off point at say 25C for charging on a 150kWh and getting the ~77kWh speed. It would be great if the battery heating could be done on the way to the charger.

    It's very conservative.

Tesla pushes the Model 3 battery to over 50C.

I won't embed this enormous image...

Just prior to supercharging I burned 25% SoC doing several hard accelerations (had to test the app of course), so despite an outside temperature of around 0°C the battery was already at 32°C when I pulled in to charge.

Company account with VAT no specified ? That's what would have resulted in that pricing.

Did you press start on it? Have you used it before?
You reset them by putting the cable back or hitting the plug holder door. I believe these are set to stop at 80% full. Were you above 80%?

Lots of people have been reporting them broken on PlugShare lately. Seems to be an issue, that Topaz are aware of and they've just not been able to get somebody out to fix it yet.

ChargePoint bill you independently to Ionity?
I used Ionity app once in Cashel and was on the phone twice to get a charge started. That was in the 2 weeks or so. Has it not got any better?

I've used Ionity in Athlone twice and started session both times without a problem - once as a 'guest' and once when logged in to my own account.

OK, so hopefully a case where people are reporting edge cases...and most people are charging away!

Just look in the reviews in plugshare ... plenty of people reporting the Ionity chargers working.

Tesla users even report charge statistics. I see one 2 days ago in Athlone, that ramped up to 114kW on a Tesla S and charged from 21%-90% in 1hr 10 minutes in wet climate at 9 degrees celsius.

Also, the Circle K CCS charger in Athlone has been working in December, looking at the reviews. It just is broke since.

Yep, that's my understanding. We'll see more of this from 1st February. Nobody will go directly to Ionity and pay 0.79/kWh.

Does anyone know when the Kill stations near Naas are opening up? The seem to have been building them for ages!?

In other news, I noticed the Maingau app has had an overhaul. It's in English now too. Not sure if you can sign up via the app, but anyone who couldn't sign up before, it might be worth a try again now.

The app is called EinfachStrom Laden.

This app https://www.eins.de/privatkunden/elektromobilitaet/oeffentliches-laden/ is providing pretty good 32.25c/kWh rate at Ionity. It worked for me in Athlone.
