Some people on twitter querying why the passengers on the Aeroflot flight have not been temporarily quarantined.

    Fair point.

    Sure it'll be grand...

    That seems intelligent.

Well they were told not to interact with the public tonight.

So presumably they're all walking to some isolated location for the night, no taxis, buses, relations picking them up, no hugs for family and friends, no stopping in the take away to get food on the way home, no chatting to staff in the hotel if theyre on holiday. Nothing at all normal will be happening I'm sure.

It's just laughable. So much for having a protocol in place.

If that flight landed in Australia, the UK or the US the passengers would have been quarantined.

Here they just go home with a piece of paper an hour after arriving!

If you’re on Facebook- go to page called Laura’s Russian Lifeline.

She is who took the photos and as of 45 minutes ago was still on the plane. I think it landed just after 9pm.

Well if they're still on the flight maybe they are considering quarantine?

I can't imagine simply letting them go on their way is the WHO playbook for flights with suspected cases!?

It's really odd how for the last few days now the number of deaths in China have been almost the exact same as the number discharged from hospital? Literally almost the same number, today 45 deaths, 49 discharges

This time last night : 259 Deaths and 243 Recovered
    Tonight: Total deaths , 304, total discharges/recoveries, 303

    God for give me.

Sure it'll be grand is just a phrase to describe the usual stereotypical irish attitude - hopeful but lax.
I don't think the handing out of fliers to passengers potentially exposed to the virus is any way to prevent it's spread. Expecting them to adhere to ' recommendations' to confine themselves is lax. Other countries repatriating citizens from affected China regions are properly implementing quarantine procedures.

It’s called made up figures for your benefit. Does anyone here seriously believe China would effectively shut down their whole country, and Russia would shut their border with China for a seasonal flu type illness....

All they need now is for John Delaney will drop down to the plane and buy everyone a drink. Even Harris for that matter. Great crack!

Number of cases in China has now reached almost 15,000
With over 2,000 now in serious /critical situation

Wuhan seems to still be remaining as the absolute epicenter of this all. Only 25% of cases today were outside Wuhan. You would think with how infectious it appears to be, China's other much larger cities would have quickly overtaken Wuhan in numbers of cases.

Still very few deaths in mainland China outside Hubei (10) so that's some positive I guess.

    Number of reported cases :/

Yes. I'd be interested to know what the story is with the passengers.

Surely it can't be true they will or have simply left the plane with a leaflet!

It's observed that 1 person will typically infect just over 2 other people with the virus....and round and round we go.

    Number of reported cases :/

If they are under-reporting number infected that's good news.

Right now mortality rate outside Hubei in mainland China is 0.2%, its far lower if infected cases are not listed.

    No really...

Reading about the doc running the lab in Wuhan, with all the papers published on bat immunology and SARS/Corona virus, he had SARS as a young man and is coming from a good place. Wants to help humans resist these superbugs.

My guess is this virus is an accidental escapee.

Its unlikely that if this guy has the virus that all on board have caught it. If they have caught it then it will be a while before they start producing enough viral load to spread it. I would think if the guy tests positive then the HSE may be contacting the passengers.

Edit: they seem to be keeping them. Maybe the test is quick and when it comes back they can decide what to do with the other passengers.

It's quite puzzling really, because if there are significant numbers of unreported cases outside Wuhan, in other Chinese cities, then the mortality rate of the virus is actually even lower than seasonal flu, maybe even significantly so. But how could a virus as harmless as that ever seriously sicken such a large number of people and cause this number of deaths in one area in just a few weeks? It is a very perplexing situation. I'm sure seasonal flu has never resulted in so many seriously ill people that the Wuhan health infrastructure is pushed to the point of collapse

Why can’t it be a natural new virus? Like SARS was, like swine flu and bird flu etc

I'm very optimistic that this will be dealt with successfully but let us not bury our heads in the sand

If you had the right ventilation, burying your head in the sand could be a very effective way to avoid infection.

Going by the average Ro of 2.2 for the virus it's highly probably at least 2 other people will have symptoms develop.

Those passengers should be quarantined until a diagnosis is confirmed.

Is that not just a case of them not having it quite as long. Slow death no?

It's criminal the millions and billions that will be spent on this virus yet it will kill a fraction of what hunger kills each day in the world. I feel the higher uppers fear they will catch it so give it an unlimited bankroll.

It is bizarre tbh. I guess it has a few options.

    1) The flue is not really asymptomatic and just pushes people straigh to the hospital. As in, if you are not a carrier, then you are in trouble.

    2) It's very contagious, even more than we think.

    3) Wuhan is fudging the numbers for if international organisations come sniffing around after it calms down because they were ignoring it for a month (or more) As in, some of these people were actually admitted a while ago.

    4) Everything out of china is bull**** :P
