More like the common cold it seems. More infectious and the virus lasts much longer than the flu virus on hard surfaces.

On a general level the majority will survive a virus like this. Like flu.

    So why the hysteria?

Is there more to this or what?

It causes a high incidence of pneumonia. I don't know if you've ever had pneumonia, but my wife developed it after a respiratory virus and even as a healthy vital woman in early middle age, it left her debilitated for weeks and below par for months after.

Be blasé about this if you will, but if it hits the young kids, or the elderly people, or those carrying underlying conditions that you care about, I suspect you will have a different attitude.

My little sister is working in a city not too far from Wuhan, she had booked flights to come home at the end of March. A lot of the ex-pats working in her school are leaving before a lockdown comes in.

Im a bit worried to say the least.

five Million Potential Carriers Have Left Wuhan As Coronavirus Appears To Mutate Into "More Transmissable" Form says mayor. Grim news

Ideal. Should all countries not be closing borders on that news?

Well we see the CCP are willing to barricade millions of people inside a city with an outbreak whose scale they have been and I believe continue to lie about. I wouldn't take my chances in a situation like that.

What I would like to get an update on is the confirmed cases.

The media are acting like the 1950 people in China are on life support with a killer virus and we’re all getting wiped out.

Meanwhile the 3 positive results in France:

The head of France’s health department, Jerome Salomon, said Saturday evening that all three are doing “very well.

Then we turn to the 4 positive results in the US:

The patient has been hospitalized, but no other details about that case were made available.

The other three patients remain hospitalized in isolation, but are said to be doing well.

From what I've heard, China's medical centre is below par, but I would be curious about Klaz's opinion on the matter.

How many of the 2000 confirm got pneumonia?

As any lifecoach (or suchlike), would recommend, time to look at the positves, in a bad situation:

☼ 3mths isn't too long to bunker down, until the 'Gates?' Vax becomes available.
☼ 95% reduction in global multi-layer traffic for a few months, will let the planet breath.
☼ Some folks will stop eating barely cooked, random, small animals.
☼ Chinese atheists may turn to some sort of godhead figure and consider an afterlife to reflect upon in this life.
☼ Starmucks will be replaced with a mash-up of immune boosting herbs, spice and megadose VitC with minerals.
☼ House prices will drop about 30% for all the young buyers.
☼ Traffic jams will diminish, various product surpluses appear

    and so on...

China now claiming new vancine tests are showing to be sucessful. They better be right.

You know, I know China is only showing 'strong government' to it's people, but it is hilariously looking bad from the outside.

Is it not to soon to know a vaccine works, are they subjecting people to the virus deliberately?

Tested on some nurses in the lab apparently ....wouldn't surprise me.

Depends where/how they're being treated. Mainstream hospitals in China are pretty awful, although there's been a movement in recent years to improve the overall quality. The problem is the integration of Chinese traditional medicine and sometimes very badly trained staff (including doctors). The "military" hospitals (which are available to the public but can be expensive) are excellent.

You know that they don't care what foreigners think... not really. Their only concern that no major unrest is created and directed towards the government.

TBH I wouldn't be too surprised to hear (in a month or so after everyone is cured) that this was somehow an attack by foreign governments like Japan to weaken China...

Could have a natural immunity and hardly a great sample case to say it works
How long to even manufacture a vaccine and then waiting time to see if it works

A lot is unknown, and what's unknown is scary! So far, it is much more lethal than seasonal flu, also spreads faster, and has no cure. That is why its hyped up, better to be safe than sorry

Yes most people will survive, I dont think anyone has ever thought otherwise. The difference is much more people appear right now to be at risk than with usual flu

The CDC estimates that so far this season there have been at least 15 million flu illnesses, 140,000 hospitalizations and 8,200 deaths from flu.

The death toll rising to 80 from 56 yesterday would be 24 deaths in a day. 24 deaths per day would be 8760 deaths/year if it continues, so this does certainly now appear more dangerous than the flu. And cases are growing enormously in China with infections growing to 2500 today,it is also an extremely early period in the disease development/spread. So there is cause for alarm, and it certainly appears right now to be a much more serious issue than the flu.

there were about 15 deaths the day before, and 15 the day before that, so... I was wondering if the total would jump to over 100 today, probably safe to say it will by this time tomorrow

Jesus the hysteria. If it was a massive threat we would have closed our borders by now.

Its waaaay worse than the Chinese are letting on. I find it hard to believe they’re building a dedicated hospital in 6 days and quarantining entire cities...because less than 100 people died...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,786 ✭✭✭wakka12

Number of confirmed cases in China jump by almost 1,000 in one day
Almost 300 people in critical or serious condition in Wuhan hospitals
    https://bnonews.com/index.php/2020/01/the-latest-coronavirus-cases/

Almost 6,000 others suspected in China
    https://news.qq.com//zt2020/page/feiyan.htm?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Some good news, there is no confirmation by CDC that the disease is actually transmittable during the incubation phase, despite earlier reports that it was.

I'm in a province next to Wuhan city, had to rebook our flights to return early in case the hysteria keeps spreading. :)

Had a bad cough the last few days though. Hope its just lung cancer and not the deadly coronavirus!

It is amazing how the death of an American Basketball player can wipe out a potential global pandemic in less than 24 hours. That guy is a martyr.

I can sleep at night at last, phew.
