I note there is no such vitriol - the solicitor(s) who constantly take on these makey up cases. Probably because hes Male and i d reckon doesn't live in Dublin 1.

AH improved markedly for a period after CA was opened up. It was less of a hostile and reactionary place, but it seems to have degenerated again recently. I'm amazed by the sheer amount knuckle dragging moronic comments I read in there on a daily basis.

The thread you mention is a good example. Sure, I can understand people not being the biggest fan of the woman in question, but people go way overboard and it's like that with loads of threads now - often crossing over into blatant racism in many instances. You can seemingly say just about anything about travellers and there isn't an eye blinked.

I don't know how people can deny that there's a problem with misogyny in AH and further afield. There absolutely is. Now, okay, misogyny is just one of the many flavours of bile usually on display, but that doesn't mean that people who complain about it don't have a point.

I use Boards a lot daily, but lately I do find myself questioning if it's worth bothering with anymore. So much of what is posted here is worthless drivel. The place just feels increasingly negative and the standard of debate sure isn't getting any higher. Personally, I wonder if it's actually beneficial mentally to read the likes of AH on a regular basis.

Even reading the back and forth here is headache inducing

This is one of the original posts (by a man) who can see a problem with no female representation. It makes perfect sense. Another poster said they raised the issue previously and it has fallen on deaf ears.

AH by its nature is more open to certain posters than say Animals and Pets. There is more space for unsavoury opinions. A zero tolerance approach may be needed but the trouble with that can be mods being big footed and lacking good judgement.

If I may use a recent infraction as an example. A poster received a yellow card for a comment about Brad Pitts partners all being ugly. Baffling move by the mods I thought. Is that an example of misogyny though? And if it is will I get a card if I post that I think Robbie Williams wife looks like a man?

Where is the line. One person's horrible opinion will be another person's misogynist.

If you post that Robbie William's wife has an STI, is that misogyny?

And what about all the crap ...Why do women ( insert random insult) ......? threads.

Ok I’m sure a couple of men can be assholes occasionally. And I know that not every woman is, just the majority.

My girlfriend had a hospital appointment and as a kind, generous and overall just super guy I said I would bring her. She says to me the night before “make sure you wear something nice”.

Oh did the letter from the doctor say it was a black tie event? Is the prognosis or advice or medicine prescribed going to be different depending on my clothes?
Firstly, do you think I’m going to turn up in pajamas ffs? Secondly, I went to work in the morning so she knew I’d be smartly dressed. “Oh don’t wear that wine jumper you wear to work”. For someone who is so concerned about what I’m wearing, she hadn’t noticed I haven’t worn that for months and it’s a nice jumper anyway.

Her comment had no impact on what I wore but when I collected her looking well, I’m sure she thought to herself, oh he listened to me, thank god I said something. Of course at the hospital most people were just wearing jeans, tshirt etc.

This isn’t just my girlfriend. You’d see plenty of examples of this kind of sh!t on tv or on nights out or in supermarkets. I’ve worked in a number of offices and plenty of women would tell stories about the stupid things they said to their partner. So what’s the reason for these kind of pointless comments? They enjoy telling people what to do, want to be the boss? Just enjoy annoying men?

Theres numerous posts like this all across Boards.ie. A recent one on the television forum about a Tv show centred on Una Healys saggy vagina. Posters complained and left the thread, but those posts remained.

Why are all these gross generalisation why do women....threads not get shut down?

I believe Boards needs a good clean up across all Forums.

But nobody is doing that. The Royal Family is something which pisses off a gigantic proportion of people for various reasons and as such if one of them is in the news, a lot of people will happily throw the kitchen sink at them in order to vent about how utterly, mind-numbingly annoying it is seeing these muppets dominating headlines and discussions. That's not a gendered thing, but the media has tended to focus more on gossip regarding Middleton and Markle, and it's a massive f*cking pain in the hole for anyone who couldn't give a bollocks about a bunch of foreign rich people who are only famous for archaic and malicious reasons.

That's my take on it anyway.
