Its not just underwear that is found to have traces of feces and genital infections it's trousers too.

Most germs can survive on fabrics for some time even after being washed. Sports clothes and clothes used in food prep are most high risk. They need to be washed at high temp with a bleach based product that is also an anti bacterial laundry detergent. A lot of clothes labels will give other instructions though for low temp only washing etc.

Obv if its yourself ..you know when you have been ill that you need to do a full thorough wash of all your clothes and bedlinen with something a little tougher than usual. Ideally we should wash clothes like this all the time. But the color tends to fade in some things.

I like to always wash on about 60 degrees though. With the proper detergent. I am a CLEAN FREAK tho!

But other people have other germs that will colonize your skin and you don't know how healthy they were or how they cared for their clothing.

Plus in charity shops ...BAGS of clothes are often stored together for weeks waiting to be put out they are all mixed together.

I volunteered in charity shops. The clothes are rarely washed. Often just put out.

I have been in charity shops where you can smell the B.O.
