Does an extension of that extent not need planning permission?

Absolutely.. but sure there's always retention

600k! There's money in architecture and TV shows.
It'll come in a couple of hundred K over that no doubt

Ah should just go to a similar in Dalkey or elsewhere that is grand and just needs a bit of a touch up. Drumcondra is not up there is it? Overpaid but who paid. Anyway....

    But this is Telly Almighty.

Surly he could pull in some favors from all the suppliers and builders he’s given publicly to over the years.

I'd imagine young kids in school and involved in sports clubs a big factor in staying around Drumcondra. Very difficult to move further afield in that instance.

Drumcondra is a fairly leafy area.

I wouldn't normally watch this stuff but a house that cost the best part of 900k plus another 650 in rebuilding it.

    The good times eh?

For 1.5 million in Dublin I would want to be able to hear the sea hitting rocks at the bottom of my garden

Drumcondra would be a great spot to live. I heard Dermot being interviewed about moving a couple of years ago. He said that they had outgrown the house but wanted to stay in the area because of his kid's involvement in sports, school etc

    Mad money 1.5 million for a semi-di.

Drumcondra nice but no house in that area worth that amount of money.

He isn't spending 600k or anywhere near that .
The show is fantasy ,all the figures are just plucked out of the air.
Surely he could pull in some favors from all the suppliers and builders he’s given publicly to over the years.

Himself and those boyos have made a fortune over the years off the gullible people on his show.

Did Dermot get some work done, or some botox just before this part (week 3)? His eyes look a bit suspect!

Programme missing his wife’s involvement and I can totally understand why she might not want to be on tv

It makes so much sense that he chose Patricia as his QS. I always found her impressive at her job. She was always fighting the customers' corner and didn't let Dermott or the builders impress her. The following QS all seemed much too aware that they were on a TV show staring Dermot. Patricia was on a building site working for the customers who paid her.
It is sad that the first comments made about her here were about her teeth.

I agree. Plus he wants to keep half of the interior as well and acknowledges it'll be a mix of old and new.

Personally (and it is just my opinion) I think that's ridiculous. You want the whole house to look uniform.. Not the obvious "and here's where the extension starts" - unless of course that's the point for bragging rights?

I'm not much on art! :p

I'd go pipe at the back of the house, nobody is going to be making comments on the pipe.

only a fool would funnel the water into the middle of the building.
why didnt he put another wall outside so that you have 2 cavities and hide a pipe in the outside one.
