It's a very clever location, given that McDonagh's have got planning to turn their current hardware store site into an office complex.

Dungeons and Donuts have closed in Bridge Mills, and are moving into upper Abbeygate St later in December.

Great, popped in the other day & noticed they were closed. Have some amazing donuts....

    Duffy's Fishing & Shooting closing on Jan 12th 2020.

Sad to see such a long established shop go.

Another small part of the fabric of Galway going. T'will be interesting to see what goes in but it won't be the same. Duffy's is either a second or third generation family business.

I see there is something opening or opened in the old David Martin salon beside Capones in Knocknacarra.
Does anyone know what the business is?

Shake Dog opening soon on Prospect Hill, across from the council. The spot has been empty a good few years . The last thing that was there was a Londis nearly 10 years ago I think.

Over 1000 a week in rent, they would need to be open as much as possible to get that 😉

Ridiculous that they charge so much in rent....they always seemed busy but obviously still couldn't make the rent

If it's that much to rent a kiosk, how much would would one of the retail units cost? Crazy.

When you stop and think about it, it's a thousand a week for a counter, small prep area and some chairs and tables in what would otherwise be an entrance hallway to the building. They would need to be guaranteeing you your level of business/custom at that rate.

Their meals cost 7.50 or 7. If every customer only bought the 7.50 option they would need to sell 134 meals a week to cover rent alone. Then add in cost of wages, cost of stock, electricity, etc. They never had a hope of surviving.

7.50 would include vat . But on top of rent they would have to pay the shopping centre service charge which would be over 5k a year, then rates which would probably be 10k a year....roughly. Then insurance which as we know ain't cheap, and running costs and staff. No chance to make much money off that. They signed a 15 year lease in 2017 with a break option at 2027, they are still paying the rent until they can get rid of it.

It makes you wonder how some of the shops in there are lasting at all.

Plus they would have to pay chopped a franchise fee to use the name as well

Surely they would sell at least that a day? 134 people is nothing in a busy city location?
