I'd be surprised if there are still any around this part of the site.

You reckon it will pass like the other civil rights fads?

There are 62 Marvel Characters, trans people make up 0.6% of the population. They’d almost need to treble the number of characters for it to be an accurate representation going by those numbers.

62 marvel characters? There's thousands. There are about 62 in End Game alone.

I see this as pure Marketing and box-ticking exercise.
There's nothing wrong with a character or a trans-person being casted for a big role.

I just wonder if it will do the trans-community justice. Something they have in common is a long deep struggle to figure out what's going on and why they feel the way they feel. What's unique is that neither women nor men can relate to this because it's very niche. The day to day stigma trans people have to deal with in many parts of the world up to the fear of being killed.
It was to me this is a pretty damn defining process that in a way will influence just about anything you'll be doing in the future.

I'd just be interested how the community feels about it and hope that this won't be an unrealistic representation along the lines of "oh btw I'm trans and super rich and pretty because I was fortunate to have a lot of money and resources to fly through the process of transitioning".

Then again, I don't care about Marvel or American equality races of who's the most equal.

Yeah, otherwise why make the big announcement before whatever movie this character is going to be in is made, or even written.

Maybe he's hoping for another best picture oscar nomination, because Black Panther is one of the worst made Marvel movies and look what happened there. That's not to say that I think it's a really good thing that there's a marvel movie with a cast made of of 98% black people. But if that was getting an oscar nom then Ant Man 2 should have won it.

    But they are writing them...

As an aside, Lashanna Lynch isn't playing Bond as far as I'm aware but potentially his replacement as 007 since he quit at the end of the last film. But if she was to play Bond... honestly, who gives a ****? He's been played by 6 white blokes already.

The character is a white bloke. That’s why he’s been played by white blokes.

Yes I would have thought that was obvious in fairness.

Anyway if a black woman is going to play James Bond, then I want to see our very own Saoirse Ronan playing Shaft.

Yeah, except she is not playing Bond.

I think people are just fed up with all the far left nonsense being rammed down their throats from all angles on a daily basis.

Going to the cinema should be an entertaining release from all the political rubbish rather than a continuation of it.

But nope, we have 'woke' Star Wars, 'woke' Marvel and James Bond will soon be played by a 'beautiful' back woman (which makes perfect sense in a world gone silly).

Next up, Jason Statham plays Cinderella.
This might sound crazy, but listen: Go to the movies you want to see, don't go to the ones you don't want to see. Yes, it's that simple.

Can’t speak for the other poster but I was responding to your “But if she was to play Bond... honestly, who gives a ****?” comment. I hate James Bond personally but many people love it and would care about it being tinkered with.

Well yes, that's what I do, I'd imagine most people do that, but options are getting worse these days though.

    What they mean tho? :pac:
Like they're going to turn some character that was originally a man into a transgendered character now? cast a transgenderd actress for a character that was born female? or create some new character?

I have never understood grown ups watching superhero stuff anyway. It's all nonsense.

You know what else is made up nonsense? Cryptocurrencies.

Where did you get the 0.6% from? That's nearly 30,000 people in Ireland, I doubt it anywhere remotely near that, maybe you meant 0.06%? or 0.006% even?

But I agree with your overall point, why are such a small minority being represented!!

Numbers wise, they'd probably be more accurate having a paedo superhero.

    True.

And if it was a movie solely about a transgender superhero it would be a commercial disaster. Which is why they are just shoe-horning one character into a larger plot to tick a box on reaching as many market segments.

Chris Claremont did originally plan on having Mystique be a bisexual who shapeshifted herself a penís to impregnate her lady lover Destiny and that would have been the parentage of X-Man character Nightcrawler.
The Comics Code of Decency or whatever veto'd it so its certainly not any part of a "new" or modern agenda.

It would probably be even more controversial to try now funnily enough.

    Who's she playing?

IMDB is your friend there, but i'll give you a clue:
    It's not bond.

I get the impression Bond goes into retirement and she gets the 007 code name until he comes out of retirement. All the outrage over her replacing Bond keeps the franchise in the press. Free advertising.

I'd love if they cast a white American as Bond, just to see the British loose their sh!t. They'd accept a black British Bond before they'd accept an American.

Imagine the uproar if they made Nick Fury black now instead of doing it 18 years ago.

18 years ago we didn't have much race baiting via social media. And when people went to university, humanity degrees were for real careers like teaching, psychology, social workers etc. Now people get degrees in gender/race studies and create problems to sustain their career of being a profession SJW.

Mutants make up 0% of the population so who cares about accurate representation

0% ? Is that rounded down?
I'm sure there's plenty of mutants... they just don't have superhuman powers.

Ye they'll do some wishy washy woke crap like that then people will try to deny she's playing Bond.

Ian Fleming wrote 007 as James Bond, surely there's nothing wrong with that.

Should a man then fill the spot of Sarah Connor in the Terminator franchise? I mean what if she suddenly decides to get a sex change?

Ps, what about Saoirse Ronan for Shaft, surely she's a shoo-in!! :-)

Stuff like a person being metaphorically lynched for saying a biological man cannot be a woman - I have a big problem with.

This - meh, don't see anything untoward with it.

Nobody should be threatened for their views, people will disagree on all sorts of things but should always remain civil.

After my first post here however a poster wished a death squad upon me, that's the level of individual you're dealing with, they're out there!!

Seems it was all a misunderstanding. He was referring to the gay character in the upcoming Eternals. Nothing to do with trans. Everyone can relax.

Womanman. A man is bitten by a radioactive woman and fights crime using his/her new superpowers.
