I thought they all were? I have never understood grown ups watching superhero stuff anyway. It's all nonsense.

I hope you only watch documentaries. Wouldn't want to be watching made up nonsense .

    I don’t think we’re bing represented fairly.

Maybe Marvel should give us a hero who is a middle aged man who likes a few pints, enjoys steak and a fry-up, drives a 6-10 year old Toyota with a few issues, who has a job he doesn’t really like but that he goes to because he has to pay the bills, a guy who doesn’t care if he has a bit of a gut and thinning hair. And who doesn’t give a rats ass what gender is as long as everyone just leaves him the feck alone and stops with pushin all that sheite at him all the time.

Or a woman with a pain in her arse looking after EVERYONE from the time she gets up until she goes to bed, bar the occasional escape to visit a friend while everyone is somewhere else, or a night out (home at 11) when she and her other half aren’t totally knackered. A woman who thinks it’s a bit odd that someone with a penis should want to use the ladies or anything like that and who reckons you might as well stick a dick on a barbie doll and tell your children they’re all unicorns than try to argue that you’re a woman and they’re not.

These days it requires an almost heroic sacrifice of self to call out the absolute drivel being pushed on people through these publicity stunts and pacification of people who think they’ve a right to some movie role recognition for their poxy gender identity.

Marvel are putright corporate whores looking to keep their base of green/blue/pink haired overgrown children happy by pandering to them with this horsecrap. And they’ll lap it up, the gullible little eejits that they are.

    Heroes they are certainly not.

Would be a very boring film though.

I’d rather go for a walk or read a book than sit and watch the awkward insertion of a conceited transgender character as a hero in a film, just to make a statement and progress a twisted agenda.

It seems like you're much more upset about it than people who are OK with it are happy about this.

Tokenism is flavour of the month. And studio heads are only too happy to monetise it.

Ah, let me help. You are Marvel-non-binary. It’s a new thing. Yes, it’s ridiculous, but it’s on the internet now and for that reason it’s true and you can’t say it’s not or I’ll label you a bigot and ruin your life.

    I am TransGenderPerson!!

    My superpowers, gadgets and abilities?
    - The ability to mine offence out of the tiniest of atoms
    - The ability to morph my genetalia from penis to Ken doll to vagina and back again as I see fit
    - A powered suit that changes from a cocktail suit to a cocktail dress at the touch of a button
    - Super-sensitivity

Aren't any of the shape shifting ones trans??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,807 ✭✭✭speedboatchase

Whatever Marvel is referring to will end up being a few frames of a movie that Disney can easily cut for audiences in China, eg. what they did for Avengers Endgame and Rise of Skywalker.

At what point would a superhero mention that they're transgender?

Surely any 'shape shifter' type characters are transgender?

Simple really, the marvel films are made for everyone and not for kids. I personally think the people who think there for kids are very silly indeed. Also its silly that there's a new story about a transgender superhero but that's just part of news sites been rubbish

More fcuking nonsense to pander to an extreme minority.

Well done Marvel you bunch of fcuking clowns! You have lost me as a loyal fan when this latest Shiite is released, I certainly wont be watching!

Can't say it will change much for me, will be good for young trans people to be represented. My issue will be with casting. Are we gonna get sub par casting because they insist the actor be primarily trans rather than primarily a good actor? Not to say there aren't good trans actors but I'd hate to see person poorly cast because the better option was cis.

This transgender nonsense needs to stop

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,166 ✭✭✭Fr_Dougal

There are 62 Marvel Characters, trans people make up 0.6% of the population. They’d almost need to treble the number of characters for it to be an accurate representation going by those numbers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,419 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

You do have to wonder where and when the line is going to be drawn about what humanity deems as factual and acceptable and what is actually progressive.

For example, despite it being an evolutionary and physiological fact that people are either born male or female we are asked to believe that this is actually not the case.

Further we are then told you can't critique this stuff because they are "born that way".

I couldn't care less what grown adults do but the above is before we get to the trans and children recently in the news and videos of "transitioning" little kids - that is really, really disturbing. Nothing "progressive" about that, far from it.

I'm not saying Marvel will go there though.

Maybe the superhero will go around changing the gender of villains?

Honestly, what's the harm of putting a trans person in a Marvel film. It'd probably be one of the more realistic things they've put into their films.

Maybe some kid will watch that film and think, yeah maybe I am normal and not try and top themselves.

Maybe other people will watch it and enjoy.

Maybe others will fart out the contents of their mind on to twitter.

The world will keep turning. People online will get angry over something else the following day.

Wonder what the movie will be like? Lets guess. A half hour origin story with a love interest intertwined with the story of a bad guy bad guy who's trying to get the infinity stone/energy cube/crystal which lets him control the universe. The bad guy will have it and it'll look like the hero will die and all hope is lost. But the hero will come back to life and save the day.

Great stuff, I'll enjoy not watching this crap.

I wouldn't mind if Marvel actually committed to bringing such a character to life, but I know it'll end up being wishy washy as fcuk which will only annoy people on both sides of the argument.

Knowing the films currently in production, I'm guessing this will be a god like character in The Eternals with the ability to shapeshift. They'll never actually be referred to as transgender.

Where did you get the 0.6% from? That's nearly 30,000 people in Ireland, I doubt it anywhere remotely near that, maybe you meant 0.06%? or 0.006% even?

But I agree with your overall point, why are such a small minority being represented!!

I think people are just fed up with all the far left nonsense being rammed down their throats from all angles on a daily basis.

Going to the cinema should be an entertaining release from all the political rubbish rather than a continuation of it.

But nope, we have 'woke' Star Wars, 'woke' Marvel and James Bond will soon be played by a 'beautiful' back woman (which makes perfect sense in a world gone silly).

Next up, Jason Statham plays Cinderella.

This will look very dated very quickly once the whole transgender fad passes.

what far left nonsense? Maybe my understanding of Far Left is different than the current Americanisation of it, but I'm presuming you mean liberal.

Whether people like it or not, LGBTQ people and people of colour exist in society. Should they not be included or at least afforded representation?

But they are represented, we've never lived in a more free, equal and opportunistic time in the west, you want diverse characters, go write them.

I don't like to see people's characters being robbed and repackaged, especially for political reasons (eg black woman plays James Bond).

Ps, I have to say I can't stand the term 'people of colour', surely we're all people of a certain colour, the term has no practical meaning!!
