Why was Clinton impeached and not Bush?

Bush committed the worst crime a president could ever commit, going on a full scale war against a country on false pretences resulting in the death of hundreds of thousands of completely innocent people. This was a premeditated war crime was it not?

Clinton got a blowjob and was impeached

Why was what Bush did not an impeachable offense?

    Wrong on a few levels.

It was in America best interest what Bush did what Clinton did wasn't even in his own best interest.

I always thought Clinton was impeached because he lied to the nation about the incident rather than the incident itself

    They impeached Clinton for perjury.

Bit of a joke alright all things considered but that was the GOP for you. If you wanna talk about a witch hunt that would have been a good one, started out investigating real estate or something and ended up with a blowjob.

Course, the impeachment was needed to cleanse the office back then according to Graham because of the lies and extra marital activities....not much of that talk on display from republicans now funnily enough.

Bush to be impeached? Maybe, but he went to war with brown people in an oil rich land. There ain't much appetite for impeaching that kind of behaviour in the US

Because unlike the republicans the democrats are very relucatnat to move an impeachment bill, and only do when there is cleae evidence of it. So they didnt have enough evidence against Bush, but they think they do against Trump.

By contrast, the republicans are a bit less judicious.

The cynic in me would say it’s because Republicans controlled the House for Bush’s first 6 years.

When the Dems regained control after the 2006 midterms the political benefits of impeachment were minimal, given how easily it could have been spun by the GOP as an attack on “the troops” and deflect attention away from Bush himself

    Clinton got his cigar wet?

Clinton was impeached for lying under oath. It was essentially a political hit job on Clinton and the democrats at the time as Clinton was hugely popular, which the GOP hated. Bush was just a frontman for the neocons/deep state so impeaching him over that war was never on the cards. A trial at the Hague would have been the better scenario

His own short term interest :D.

Attacking Iraq/deposing Saddam was very popular in the US with both political parties, the media, the general public etc. Hard (IMO) for the Democrats to try oust the president for going to war under false pretenses after the fact given the level of support for the policy. Of course the war was extremely unpopular all across Europe (incl. here) and most people felt it was unnecessary & probably based on lies/exaggerations of Saddam's threat so that might be shading your memory of it (if you are old enough).

I think Republicans held all the branches of government at that time anyway so whole point is (probably) moot.

As mentioned already, Republicans were using Clinton lying under oath about "blowjobs" as their reason. Of course now they are all in lockstep supporting an individual who makes Clinton look like a choirboy (but he is on "our" political team which makes all the difference)!

If that is correct then you should be able to provide some examples of this?

Oh let's see, Stormy Daniels, affair while married? Check. Use of illegal bribes (campaign finance violations)? Check. Donald J. Trump Foundation? Used to illegally profit himself & family? Check. Or let me guess, the fact there are actual court rulings on the topics raised only proves deep state is out to get him?

Well there you go. I am not a Trump supporter and knew basically sod all about him before he became president except he played golf and went to Studio 54 in the 70's.

But all the constant ****e about him spouted in Ireland is an absolute joke. I reckon most people have no idea why they think Trump is so bad because they are exactly the same as sheep and just follow the next man.

I remember when Clinton first got my attention. You should look up what happened to Ricky Ray Rector.

On George W., I think he's fundamentally a good man in that he believed that what he was doing was morally the right thing to do. He was just very misguided and out of his depth as President. I don't think he went into Iraq for oil although that was probably a strong motivation for some of the people around him.

When you listen to Bush, even now, he views the world very much in "good guys v's bad guys" terms. That's a very dangerous type of mentality to have as a political leader because he's always going to view himself as a good guy.

I don't by any means think the man is the imbecile he's painted as by some but he certainly didn't have the life experience or mentality to lead a country and Iraq was a consequence of that.

All of which has been done to the same and higher degree than most of the other US presidents and other world leaders.

Look at the Clinton foundation for a start.

But if the Don is guilty of all these crimes then how come he hasn't stood trial or been convicted? Whereas old Bill's baggage never stops following him around does it?

Ultimately dealing with him is the US's problem. Would not be the type to be out rallying against him or something if he arrives in Doonbeg again.
You protest a bit much I think, you must be interested enough in merits of Trump, & Clinton, US politics etc if you are going on about the Clinton Foundation & now dredging up a US execution from the 90s I had to google to see the relevance of. You also said Trump was the "dog's bollox" on another thread on here (although I suppose that could have been exaggeration to wind up the "sheep")...

Yes I said that to gauge the reaction. But you then implied about the Don in a Clinton thread, but why?

Point is Don has sod all to do with Ireland but a hotel and golf course.

The Clintons are so deep here its unreal which at most is really sinister or at least is really wierd.

Point is on the execution is the baggage which follows that family is non stop and has nothing to do with me or what I think...........so???????

It seemed to me to suggest something about how divided US politics is.
He is objectively less "fit" for the job he holds than Clinton.
The Republican party should not have let him run to be chosen as their candidiate in the first place IMO (if they could have prevented that, my interest in US politics does not extend down to that level of detail about inner workings of the 2 parties).

This is a George W. Bush thread really anway (why was he not impeached over Iraq war), so we should probably park it at this point? I'm sorry I ever brought up "the Don" as you call him. :pac:

The Don was a 'playboy' with lots of dosh in the 70's. It is said he had lots of female admirers. One reason why he got up so many noses some of who shout a lot today.

You are aware that his Foundation has been ordered by a court to shut down and that Trump is to personally pay in 2 million dollar to it, right? That is a conviction that's already in effect. Same goes for fraudulent campaign contributions by his lawyer; he's currently serving time for it and said he did it on order of his client, For the record cheating outside your marriage is not a crime; it's a civil case issue but you asked why Trump was worse than Clinton and all you could come up with "Well Hillary" defence of trying to deflect that someone else does something bad and hence Trump is somehow innocent because of that. Except that's now how reality works; no matter if Hilly was giving blowjobs to Bin Laden every night does it change the fact that Trump cheated on his then wife with a porn star, that his trust got shut down for abuse by the Trump family and that he personally was ordered to pay for it (and agreed to do so).

So yes, Trump is worse than Clinton and if you want to actually try to bring up facts rather then deflection we might even have a discussion.
