It's a bit worrying how many of the posts here have such a clear lack of understanding of how sobering up works.

Nothing speeds it up. Absolutely nothing.

No amount of brekkie, coffee, dioralyte or minty toothpaste is going to make you sober. It's scientifically impossible. Your liver can only filter it out at a certain pace.
All the above is just disguising it, like taking a nurofen for the flu doesn't get rid of the flu it just fixes the headaches.

Can’t be bothered taggin individual posts but the clock starts after your last drink. Thats when your body starts to metabolise alcohol

No, your body starts to metabolize the alcohol from when it first enters your bloodstream. It doesn't just store it all up waiting for your last drink, sure how would your liver know that lol.

About a unit an hour will be processed from when you first start drinking and continue until it's gone from your system totally. So it depends on how long it's been from your first drink and how much you had

. Also a standard measure of vodka has 1.4 units not 1
    drinkaware.ie/facts/what-is-a-standard-drink
A standard drink is a measure of alcohol. In Ireland, one standard drink contains 10 grams of pure alcohol, taking the average person about one hour to process examples include a half pint of beer, small glass of wine and pub measure of spirits. All are based on average strength drinks - 4.5% lager, 12.5% wine and 40% spirits.

IS A UNIT OF ALCOHOL THE SAME AS A STANDARD DRINK?
No. This is a common source of confusion. One UK unit contains 8 grams of pure alcohol, compared to 10 grams in one Irish standard drink.

Pity the New Zealand system is not in force. They have official information posters telling you how to calculate your alcohol limit and alsoy located next to an alcohol testing machine.

The general rule of thumb is men - 3 drinks over 2 hours, ladies 2 drinks over 2 hours.

Their driving limit is now the same as here.

    drink is a bottle 330ml of beer @ 4%, a standard glass of wine or a 30ml measure of spirits @ 40%$

A unit is processed by your body each hour, limit is 3 units. So if the OP had 20 units (allow for fuzzy memory), they would need 17 hours from when the started the evening. - Lets say 8pm, so, 1pm would be the safe time for driving based on 20 units.

I would not be championing anything the do in New Zealand with regard to drink driving. Posters aren’t going to change their culture and absolutely twisted attitude to drink driving. Drink driving there is like their second national sport. I was there about 2 days until I found out what a ‘roadie’ was, and seemed to be fairly routine.

And yet we arnt too out of whack with New Zealand’s road death figures.

They’ve almost twice as many road deaths per annum as Ireland does.

We've all drove the morning after a heavy night. No need for the moral high horse brigade.
The OP asked a question - it's being answered. Do you want them to lie?

OP if you have to ask, you're probably not fit to drive. Is it worth lives if you risk it?

    you're probably fine now, OP

One put my two children in hospital a week before Christmas some years back and another ran me over, so all I say is Fcuk drink drivers, Fcuk their license, Crush their Fcuking cars and ban them forever.

Fingers down the throat. Puke out the alcohol. Couple of panadol and a breakfast roll from the nearest mace or applegreen. If you can keep it down you're golden for the rest of your journey.

No use puking if the alcohol has been absorbed into your bloodstream

There's defensively merit in a good solid full Irish or a jumbo breakfast roll. Had a late night myself last night just got a savage breakfast roll from mace end its sobered me right up. Good bottle of Monster or Lucazade sport are essential.

Your food can't absorb alcohol that's already in your bloodstream.

No, but monster can dilute it. Brekkie roll soaks up alcohol still in the stomach.

I see the brain trust have arrived with their 'good' breakfast rolls and 'good' cans of monster.

That'll definitely help the process of alcohol absorption and intoxication.

    *thumbs up*

Can of coke and a big mac has the same effect

I find the red or sliver cans of Monster the best, like having 5 cups of coffee.

And what do you think the breakfast roll does with the alcohol?
Holds on to it for ever?
Where do you think the alcohol goes?

It goes into your bloodstream, just a bit slower.

No use to you now, but buy a breathalyser (a good one) for next time.

Incorrect, an hour for every unit. A 35ml measure of vodka is 1.4 units for example. A pint of 4.0% beer is 2.2 units.

There is no answer. No two human bodies deal with alcohol the same way. I know one guy who blew zero after 1.5 pints. People need to stop asking about safe levels nonsense. If your having a few drinks don't drive till late in the afternoon the next day at the earliest.

For all the posters giving out about people being on moral high horses, I have a question.

Do you condone driving while over the legal alcohol limit?
    Yes?
    No?

Gives the liver time to process it.

    Care to answer the question?

Slightly over the limit, maybe. No worse than driving while tired or distracted.
Sufficiently over the limit to be a danger, absolutely not.
    So, yes and no.

Bought a decent calibrated tester a number of months ago. I was pleasantly surprised of how much I could drink without putting me over.

Had Xmas party last night. I was drinking vodka until 5am. I am now in hotel lobby 12.10pm wondering if its safe for me to get behind the wheel of a car. I need to drive for an hour. Feel OK but guards.
