I have to wonder how many people here complaining about the FAI are or were members of affiliated soccer clubs.
Because if you're not a member, you've no right to demand changes to how a business operates, only that it acts lawfully.
I agree that the organisation appears to have been extremely poorly run, but that's their business. Every business has the right to run itself into the ground.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but this is a democracy and if people want to comment on the FAI, they are perfectly within their rights to.

    https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2019/1211/1098364-gardai-investigating-letters-sent-to-fai-headquarters/

All sounds too familiar, Sunday they wanted to meet the committee, yesterday they didnt and when the heat is on then they find threatening letters to poor staff........

Reminds me of a certain online bullying story linked to JD and his other half......Is Super J McGlue on the run or have the cops spoken to him....suspect he will know where the letters came from. At the same time they can talk to him about stalking, phone tapping, other activities as JDs private muscle and over the top security searches at matches home and away.

There are plenty of idiots out there. It wouldn't surprise me if someone did send letters along those lines.

Similarly, it wouldn't surprise me if they did it themselves to attract sympathy. It was awfully convenient how their computers were hacked (iirc) not long after all this came out originally.

I never said you couldn't comment: we are all doing that here. What we don't have is the right to demand change. Only FAI members have that right.

I would very much question that statement. The FAI is a group who cannot survive without tax payers money. That means very simpily that every tax payer in the country should be entitled to their say on the matter.

Or have they been rolling in cash since the government funding was cut to make us believe they can survive without public money???

Of course people have the right to demand change.

By expressing their democratic right to free speech.

We can also refuse to give them any business till our demands are met.

Too many lads who enjoy the day on the beer and a day out. Too few willing to boycott games to make it hurt the FAI as it would have to happen over a period of time. One game would never be enough...needs to be 5-10 home and away.

Sponsors dropping out are doing that job better to be fair. Our continued demands for change will help keep sponsors away so it doesn't really matter if we have a legal right to demand change or not.

If the FAI is still around, the Aviva will be packed for the next qualifier. Change or no change.

Says everything you need to know about Irish fans

The fans are supporting the team not the FAI lad. There's a difference.

The FAI is the team...without them there is no team lad ;) Thats what people have to realise and only then will there be a difference.

The Aviva is rarely "Full" for any qualifier unless qualification is on the line.

The play off matches will be packed but the next series of friendly matches for example will be half empty with the current regime but if done right a new FA could get a full house and some sort of feel good factor going.

Both Play Off Matches are away! (If we have 2)

    Valentines Day 2018

    (bear with me)

I take my girlfriend to Marco Pierre White in Donnybrook. I'm checking out the menu when my girlfriend goes "it's that guy! that football guy!".

As you can imagine, my heart skipped a beat - which player would it be? Keano? Duffer? Ronaldinho? Or wait, perhaps she means a pundit - Brady? Dunphy? Giles? I turn around (casual like) to scope out who it could be. Must be a bit of a celeb that my girlfriend could spot them anyways.

No such luck. Its John Delaney and his girlfriend.

They go over and sit in the far corner. I'm like "that's ok, out of sight out of mind". Then JD has the pair of them moved to the table right behind my girlfriend. It's an 8 person table, but its in the centre of the room. Its utterly bizarre to seat 2 people at it unless they want to be the centre of attention. They are now directly in my eyeline too.

They spend most of the evening wearing the faces off each other like teenagers at a school disco. It's impossible to maintain conversation whilst this is happening. Trust me, no adult makes out like this anymore, its like performance art to see if someone would throw a bucket of water over them.

I spent about €200 to get a front row seat steak dinner to watch John Delaney make out with his mot.

Have hated the man ever since.

I have to be careful what i say about Delaney, have picked up a yellow card for "abusive " language towards him, only called him what he actually is. However getting back to the FAI board members..they are merely custodians of the Association whilst they are there and are duty bound to have football matters an absolute priority and not themselves.

Not one apologised to date..an absolute disgrace..everyone bar the whistle blower, he or she deserve a medal.

    Good Lord what?

Why should the FAI listen to what the public has to say? The last home game was a sell out, with the Delaney stuff in full flow.

    it was the last game.

And completely false to suggest people knew full story.

The New Zealand game was hilarious, could have held it in the Phoenix Park.

They get grants and tax exemption in certain areas . The public are one of their main customers.

so choice is listen and change
    of ignore
    empty stadium

the end point is they listen , easy way of hard way.

As mentioned in that funny post in restaurant, his behaviour was becoming increasingly bizarre.

Was he a massive drinker towards midpoint to end ?

The fact he was drinking at work events , the signs were there.

There was some bizarre behaviour by JD and people working in FAI.It all seemed to be done to protect JDs image.

Solicitors letters were thrown around like confetti. The attempt to "hack" a fans WhatsApp group ,the monitoring of certain fans on away trips and the personal security(secret service style)for JD were excessive .

FAI staff propose splitting association in two
The proposal, which was devised by FAI staff members, suggests that the state would fund a new body that would solely govern grassroots and community football.

The FAI would continue to look after the international representative teams and elite football.

So one costs the taxpayer whilst the other pulls in millions from tv rights?

I can see the benefits of splitting the FAI up but they need to come up with a better plan than hoping the government will firstly reinstate the grant's and then triple what they were paying.

A grassroots FA funded by government and FAI money could work but no chance it will be funded 100% government funding to the tune of 10m .

This is a positive development and long overdue. As I’ve said on this thread before~ football and a lot of sport in general is chronically underfunded by our successive governments. Unfortunately the media never really covered this historically so most Irish football fans were left unaware. Thankfully the likes of Stephen Kenny are speaking out about it now.

Whether they can get this funding over the line is another thing.

    it has stakeholders.

    Without them they fold.

    Every fan is a stakeholder.

Bit of a meaningless statement, every organisation has stakeholders both within, above, and beneath them.
My point was in response to posters claiming the FAI was a public body and hence is 100% answerable to the government. The only hold the government has over the FAI is the €3,000,000 grant money, which is a small % of their income.

I think you’re right to an extend. Armchair fans who never put any time or money into the game here have a right to moan if they want but that’s about it. They never put anything in so why should they expect anything out.

But people who invest time and money in Irish football have a right to expect better.

You or someone else said just members of the FAI are the only ones who have a right to expect better. I think that’s too limiting. A lot of people are invested in time and money in Irish football beyond just FAI members.

The League of Ireland needs to break away into it's own organisation. Take the underage leagues with it and leave the FAI deal with the international teams.

The problem with this proposal is that there are a bunch of power hungry, dictatorial dinosaurs running the affiliates below the FAI. Think of the Clare player suspended for speaking out about Delaney.

These boys will be salivating at this proposal and the thoughts of new blazers and loads of expenses!!!

Which is how it was to 2006 and it was an utter failure.
