I would just like to take this bitter opportunity to make my annual statement that DIE HARD IS NOT A CHRISTMAS MOVIE!

    Great thread, Thanks.

Great fun, even if the winner was (somewhat) a foregone conclusion.

Proving definitively, once and for all that Die Hard is in fact - A Christmas Movie.

I think we can all agree that we got the right result and Die Hard is indeed the greatest Christmas movie of all time. :D

Thanks for a brilliantly run game quickbeam, it was really good fun.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Was actually very predictable. It nearly went exactly per the number of nominations.

The only Wild Card that went in to the second round was How the Grinch Stole Christmas (beating A Christmas Carol (1938)).

3 of the 4 top nomianted films got in to the semis (A Muppet Christmas Carol falling in Round 3, and then its conqueror, National Lampoon falling in Round 4 to It's A Wonderful Life, which was "only" seeded 11).

And of course, top nominated film, Home Alone ending up fourth but second highest nominated film, Die Hard, ended up winning.

Love Actually and Elf are still my winners!

I do like gathering data. You may have noticed.

If I give 1 point to films getting to Round 1; 2 points to films getting to Round 2, etc, and average out the points earned by each of the nominations, I can see that the one who's film nominations went furthest .... with a massive score of 4.8 is.............

Absolute travesty, Die Hard is shown at times of the year when it's NOT Christmas Ergo it isn't a Xmas movie

FFS it wasn't even premiered near Christmas, it was in July 1988 and wasn't even released on DVD until March 1989 in Ireland

IT IS NOT A CHRISTMAS MOVIE

Other than that, great thread, congrats to those that voted the right way and to QB for hosting it.

Don't have the slightest interest in sports unfortunately, unless there's a lot of Ultimate Dodgeball moments in the mix, which I sadly doubt is the case.

Saw that film mentioned a few times last Christmas, so my wife and I decided to watch it. Turned it off after 10 minutes it was so bad. Neither of us could understand how it has such iconic status in the States.
