Does that 530d xdrive say €117,000 new? 42k of extras? They just said yes to everything, some of it sounds like a complete waste of money

Who the hell pays that and sells 2 years later, thats crazy behaviour.

Nicely specced though but its lost 70k, which incidentally is €2 for every mile it has travelled

I guess that was a BMW press or fleet car to show off all the equipment available. Nobody would spec one like that with their own money.

Yes there is, i'll give you an example of a relative of mine, bare in mind he is based abroad for about half the year so doesn't get to drive them much.

    In 2017 (171)
New 520d SE (nicely specced as MSPort wasn't available) for himself and new X5 for the wife

    2018
New 520d MSport with a heap of spec for himself

    2019
New Porsche Panamera EHybrid for himself and the new model X5 for the wife.

A fair few quid dropped in depreciation there I imagine!

I suppose it’s all relative and you can’t take it with you. I reckon if it makes you happy and you can afford it, so what?
He’s probably not paying income tax here which might help too.

Nobody paid €117k for that car, as above it was likely a demo car maxed out by BMW and sold for €20-€30k off list price. A mate of a mate recently went through the same with a 6 month old 520d M-Sport out of Duffys I think it was, M-Performance parts, massive spec, list price was bananas, €82,000+. They were offering tens of thousands off to get it gone and I still thought it was bad value.

Was that a white one? I saw it one day when I was out there, did look lovely in fairness.

That 530d X Drive was a BMW UK model launch press car afaik. I recall seeing a similar coloured one being reviewed by a few of the UK motoring press a few years ago when the G30 hit the road but cannot find any links to them now. The thing that stood out with me other than the high spec was the chrome exterior bits on a M Sport model. Almost M5 money when new but as said very unlikely anyone would be spending their own money on it new.

    @Big Nasty:

I bought this black grill for my F10:

    https://www.ebay.ie/itm/GRILLE-FOR-BMW-F10-F11-F18-SPORT-KIDNEY-DOUBLE-SLAT-M5-LOOK-GLOSS-BLACK/281814935106?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

The quality is good for the price but the clips that keep it in place are weak enough. The first one I got had a broken clip out of the box but the seller sent out a replacement one once I showed them a photo of it.

If it was a press car it would have had an easy life so!

I'd say no more or less different to a garage demo model.

Many press cars see a track or two ;)

They would be very well maintained though.

Can't remember exactly, it could well have been white with all black carbon bits, but this is going back to the start of the year, couldn't still be there!

I don’t see any of the Germans coming up with anything for €65k with the performance and range of the Model 3 Performance though. I would like to see what the new 4 series electric car will be like but just don’t see it being as good of value for money as the Model 3 Performance. Also I’ve not seen anything on the way as quick of the line as the Model 3, it is beating 0-60 in less than 3s now with the latest upgrade.

I agree that the German manufacturers won’t come up with anything as quick to accelerate for the same money.
However leaving aside the range deterioration in windy cold weather as well as if you exploit its speed, I couldn’t spend that amount of money and put up with the niggles that are widely reported.
Dodgy panel gaps and bad paint quality, poor wipers, poorly working headlight assist, excessive road noise and now I’m reading you can’t even change a tyre if you get a puncture!
These things would drive me insane on a day to day basis regardless of how quickly the car accelerated. It seems however loads of the electric enthusiasts can overlook these issues.
    I don’t think I have OCD but I couldn’t.
I think the German cars will not compete directly with the model 3 on performance but may be more complete as a premium product.
It will be interesting in the next few years.

Lads, I was in a Tesla a few weeks ago. There was a computer error and all aspects of the car shut down. My 17 month old kid was locked inside and nothing could be done to open the car. I was left with no choice but to smash a window to get him out as Tesla themselves couldn't remotely open it due to it being stuck in N. No other car on the planet refuses to be opened either from the inside or outside. Absolute madness. No other car mentioned in this thread will leave you with no other option but to smash it open with the key in your hand!!

So did you break a window to gain access?
    Not a pleasant experience.

Yes but a hammer wouldn’t do it so I had to use an angle grinder as it made the shattering much neater and the sound of the hammer was scaring the baby. Boot wouldn’t open either.

You have 7 days to return the car if you don’t like it. Panel gaps, paint quality and any other physical impairments etc will be apparent on day1.

What I’m more concerned about is software issues, not sure is MarkN ripping the piss or not as I’ve heard similar type stories previously but these kind of issues may not appear for weeks, months, years, never. The 7 day guarantee is pretty relaxing for me to be honest. If I don’t like it I’ll just give it back, I’ve not got a trade in to worry about either so all good.

I’ll try track down the M340i then or a 540i, might even be more talk of the 545e at this stage as well. X45e is another option I like the sound of, read quite a positive review on it today. Only issue at the moment is that sterling has gotten really strong again recently.

Clearly a man who has never been close to or owned a new late 90s or early 2000s Alfa.

Couple of weeks driving & the panel gaps expand & paint bubbles.

However, a 7 day return policy is frankly hilarious, if you buy a 10 quid razor off the internet you've a 14 day cooling off period, why do you have half that when you're spending 50k+ ?

Well does answer the thinking I had on these.
Even the most reliable tech I've used jammed at some stage do these cars?

Appreciate this must be very, very rare but the whole vehicle is electric and the company is still pretty new with only real fans having purchased

True on the Alpha, although I don’t know of any other manufacturer who will offer the same about a no questions return policy.

I’m certainly not questioning your or anybody else’s judgement that has bought or ordered a Tesla. If I lived near Sandyford I would be happier to take a chance on one possibly but there are too many potential issues for me personally.
The seven day return is a great thing to have to fall back on though.

I don’t think Mark would make up a story like that and it is frightening. I know a guy whose friend had the electronics fail in his Tesla while the car was driving and he had no control. He sold his Tesla after that. These incidents make me wary too.

Has anyone heard of or dealt with the GT motors company that is selling the 530d X drive that has been discussed here

Not messing. I’m sure it’s rare too but it’s a serious rarity not being able to get into or out of a car.

True but 7 days is pretty much a question of "do you like the colour" you wont have any real issues at that point, but yea others dont have it at all so it's better in that regard.

The new Tesla truck is meant to have shatter proof windows too, maybe not a great idea after all.

Thankfully it was winter Mark and not midsummer. That could have been scary locked in a car in summer.

Are windows not supposed to be breakable in case someone needs to get out in case of accident or whatever ?
