Still cant warm to its styling. I think the original model from 10 years back is better looking.

Hopefully they sort build quality issues.

    Rep mobile....

Seems rental and reps are biggest users then.

Insignia was the rep car of choice around 2010-11. Interiors were far better than avensis and mondeo of the time. Skoda superb is choice right now and seems to have overtaken the Passat. I’m judging on reg plates with lease companies listed on back and visitor car parks of companies I visit.

I don’t like the look of the current insignia. Looks squashed on the back.

Lots of toys for good value first and then interior and engine sways a lot of us reps where I work.

I dislike the TURBO badges on them, looks like 1980's Halfords stick ons.

Reminds me of all the cars in the whest with red TDI, turbo, A/C, auto etc....

Some garage was adding them on as were drivers...

Opel are now part of PSA, the geniuses who gift us Peugeot, Citroen junkmobiles. Opel weren't good before and now as part of the French work a day, strike a day methodology the word quality goes through the floor. One need only look at the other French lemon Renault and Dacia and weep.

Your opinions are a little outdated

Careful and don't fall off that high stool.

PSA are actually producing some very good, well built cars at the minute as are Renault/Nissan/Dacia.

The issues for Opel stem from the under investment by GM. Models like the Astra/Mokka/Insignia that were introduced before PSA took over or just after aren't fairing too well and it's not down to a single issue but multiple issues.

PSA have financially turned Opel around to make a profit for the first time in decades. The PSA derived models aren't too bad either if a little bland. So hopefully things will turn around for them quickly enough.

Whats the crack with alot of the 2010-2012 insignias engine going gaboom ? I know personally of 2 people where the engines gave out within 2 years of ownership.

Surely those that are harping about build quality know the insignia is not known for it.

Opel were big brand in Ireland, died off in the late 90s early 00s imo. Our family had a few, 80s made opels were the best.

Ascona 400 thats the one, and the only opel for me. Personally not a big fan of the Mantas. 70s Manta A models looked nice, 80s looked awful front end and lights. Id take the Cossie time and time again

    Kadett was my dad's choice.

Easy to work on not like today.

    Pretty clueless stuff there.

Wouldn't be a boards.ie car thread without someone repeating some generic nonsense based upon stereotypes of the past.

I think these 2 could be related. They are an awful heap of ****e to be honest.

The problems they are giving are just stupid build quality issues.

For example last week I fitted 7 accelerator pedals to Insignias, 2 clutch and brake recalls (every single hydraulic component changed due to clutch pedals dropping to the floor and not returning) , multiple software updates for ridiculous issues and that's only the ones I can remember.
Btw these were 18 and 19 model year cars.

They need to sort out build quality issues. Hopefully now that they are on the PSA platform reliability will get better since Peugeot topped the reliability index this year in the UK ahead of brands expected to be on top.

I'm told the PSA based models are good apart from heater matrices on the Grandland models.

The GM designed Insignias are piss poor, as are the Ashtrays.

I know of several long term dealers about to dump the brand since Gowran took over. They're refusing trade ins of Opel and redirecting customers to the alternative brands they sell.

I had one for 6 months as a temp lease car and loved it. The dash and infotainment are excellent, the interior leagues ahead of the mark one. The 1.6 diesel was very impressive too if a but loud at low speeds and when cold. Very economical though. Fine big car with plenty of space and decent dynamics. The looks could have been better executed but was still a handsome car. Overall I was very impressed with it

Theres not enough of the Psa ones around for me to make an informed opinion about yet but the few Ive seen don't seem to be as bad as the GM ones.
However the spec has taken a hit especially with the radio and dash.
Seems to be a lot less gadgets for your money :):)

I haven't seen the issue youre talking about on the Grandlands.

To be perfectly honest the GM astra is probably the most reliable car of that era. Again theres a recall on the brake and clutch system (diesels) that requires the entire hydraulic system to be replaced but once its done they don't give many issues..

Disappointing to hear the new model is giving problems. The mark 1 has a bad enough name as it. Saying that I put 150k kms from new on one without a bother. Never ever let me down. Was the 160 bhp SRI and a lovely car when new

You only had it 6 months --if you had it another 6 you`d start to see the issues that Ive mentioned above starting to creep in!!!

I agree with you though-without the problems they`d be a fantastic car to own.

Yea it’s a highly competitive car in my opinion. Would take one over anything in its class bar the 508 probably. The only ones I see are rental or lease. Rare to see a privately owned one

The mark 1 issue with engines was down to poor servicing. Oil pump seal went hard if they went over their service intervals regularly.
So a lot of them engine failures were in ex reps / rental cars or people just not bothering to service them on time.

Anyone that Ive seen serviced on time from new never suffered with the oil pump seal failure.
