a group of 5 of us had lunch in Amicus yday and I am surprised to say it was really good..

have eaten there are few times over the years.. never thought it was great quality - the last time i was there is was really bad so had stayed away till yday - it was the only place we could get a booking at late notice..

food was v good and service was great.. and v reasonable... for the quality..

maybe it has upped its game over the years..

had coffee etc in Casanova - twas divine.. my visitors were totally wowed.

I had a particularly bad lunch in Perry St. over the weekend, which was disappointing as its usually one of my favourite spots. Now I will concur that they were very busy, but the whole experience was well below standard.

I got a chicken & stuffing sandwich which was supposed to come with some sort of pesto mayo (iirc) on it, but it was unfortunately bone dry. The chicken and stuffing was just slapped onto it with no care. It was so dry and thick it was impossible to eat and I left more than half of it there.

The most annoying thing though was the drinks.
We had ordered some soft drinks and coffees to go with our meal, and they didn't arrive until after our lunch plates had been cleared, which was easily 20 minutes after our food was served.
Now we did have tap water at the table but the whole point of ordering them was so that we could enjoy them with the food.
I did bring it to a waitress's attention when we were about halfway through our meal, and she said they'd be with us shortly, but they still didn't arrive to our table for at least another 10 minutes after that.

I'll give them another chance cause as I said, they're usually of a good standard, both food & customer service wise. But it was really lacking this weekend and I was very disappointed. It felt like such a waste.

Oak Fire Pizza across the road is excellent. I've eaten there twice recently, my only quibble is it's quite draughty but the pizza is really good. There have been Italians eating there both times as well, always a good sign!

It has a very good vegan pizza too with fake mozzarella, really good gooey stretchy consistency which is sadly rare.

Wouldn't be the biggest fan of the interior in general but the food and service has been consistently good any time I've been there.

I was exactly the same! Very disappointed on Saturday when I went. I got a sandwich and a cup of chowder. They usually have lovely thick bread for their sandwiches but it wasn't great- I actually thought it was gluten free because it was quite small. The chowder is always full of good big chunks of fish but there was nothing this weekend. The ordering system is starting to annoy me too- I don't know how it takes so long for people to pay for their stuff when they get to the till. I'll give them another go because I'm hoping it was a once off.

Elbow Lane has the best steak in Cork (IMO!)

The Bhuna in Lal quila is excellent and the lamb Karahi in Spice of India is pure decadence. Trying different dishes is key.

Are either of them msg free do you know?

Spice Of Inida has a list of msg-free dishes and i think Corriander is run by them , so possibly.. Spice Inn very likely uses msg i would say.

Actually , if anyone has eaten at Corriander , id like to know how it is!

I know the owner he told me they had to close for around a day to add an additional food prep area to the kitchen. Its a bit of a joke they have to publicly
announce closure orders for small violations that require only 24 hour closures to rectify. It can do damage to your business like.

That place is always spotless, its the pride and joy of that family.

No need for a correction! Tony's Bistro was served with a closure order on 28/11. Presumably they sorted out the problem (not specified, as far as I can see) and were allowed to reopen on the 30th.

TB is very well known around Cork and seems to be popular. It has been in business a long time. I only ate there once, about 10 years ago. Had the full Irish breakfast and was not impressed, food quality did not seem good to me.

They would have only had a closure order if they didn't carry out the work that was suggested in a previous visit.
It is only in extreme cases where an emergency closure is ordered on the spot.
    Businesses are given chances.

Anyone been to Go-Go's on the Well Rd lately? It's really starting to downhill which is a pity IMO.

It’s been a couple of months since I was last there. Always really happy with it so disappointing to hear it’s going downhill.

Was there recently, had an omelette which was quite good, friend had the fry, I took home a slice of some sort of peanut/biscuit bar and it was fantastic.

Would disagree with people saying it's gone downhill, seemed to be the same as always to me and I used to go there relatively frequently when I was living in Blackrock.

Liberty Grill again this morning for breakfast. Really good as always. Benedict with a side of mushrooms, orange juice and coffee. Staff are always great and the standard of food has never decreased over the years.

Both of these should not have MSG, Indian food doesn’t/shouldn’t have MSG 😀

Cheap sourdough bread and half cremated fry. I used to love the place but there seems to be new management/staff, they seem be wandering around in a daze some of them.

There used to be a place called bao boi near the Lough, but possibly closed now?

That was run by Bryan McCarthy I think though, from Greene's. They have some overlap with Cask, so they might do them sometime on the menu.

    Not much use there!

Had breakfast at the book shelf today, had the avocado on toast what was great, better half had the porridge what can only be described as food porn. Very rarely I am sitting somewhere and want the food my partner ordered. Looked and tasted amazing. Coffee was nice enough.

What a dick head statement, Micheal Fleming is alive and well.
    Get your facts correct.
Yes the restaurant is closed. Tell us, did you make that up or what?

God, what! Apologies! I was told by a friend that this notice below was him last year, as she was told he had closed the restaurant due to ill health and subsequently passed away.

In that case, as you say he is well, I hope he enjoys his retirement.

Yes, that is a different Fleming. Easy mistake to make considering they are a Courtmacsherry family (neighbor to Timoleague).

The service was never exactly brilliant tbh given the place is so small, never found the staff overly attentive which I actually preferred.
