You'd have to have a heart of stone not to get a good old guffaw out of the predicament of Arsenal and ManU.

It's also amusing to see the whole Premier League undermined by Man City's "we have about 35,000 fans in the world, but remarkably some crowd value this plaything owned by a group accused of genocide and sportswashing at 10 gazillion".

Awful stink of bitter lemons in here today, bet those complaining would have no problem with it if it was they're own club, and anyone saying they wouldn't are flat out liars and deluding no one.

Plenty in the Leeds thread saying "no thanks" to links with the PSG Qatari owners, also linked to Human Rights abuses. Only an eejit would put the success of a football club before concerns about humanitarian issues.

not complaining just find it amusing they're so bad at hiding it, although this one just looks fishy. It's like the time the national Airline paid them an outrageous sum of money for some sponsorship deal. I'd be outraged if financial fair play was a thing but it's not really.

    Seems logical ...

    Such a corrupt club

I agree with you but alot of fans will have flexible morals when it comes to their own clubs. Alot of United fans would be happy for a Saudi Prince to take over the club, I would not want that and would prefer owners like Liverpool who just spends its money better.

In essence, Chelsea and City have legitimately cheated in the same way that the world cup bids were legitimately won. When the rules facilitate corruption, people can turn a blind eye and excuse it.

I personally dont see a Billionaire buying a club for non footballing reasons the same as a fan billionaire looking to invest in a club. I know some might argue the net result is the same but I dont see it that way. A person like Jack Walker should be admired for genuinley wanting to contribute to something he loves.

A football club should be protected like a religion, but unfortunately the EPL IS willing to sell every part of what little soul it has left to the highest bidder. Anything goes if the money is enough...

I am not bitter about City or Chelsea because they are succesful. But even as a United fan I am rooting for Liverpool to win the league so City dont, because I think Liverpool are a proper club. I dont mind non United clubs winning the league, but I have no respect for the Chelseas or Citys in football and I dont want United to end up being financed in the same way even if it means we get stuck watching the muppet show thats been unfolding for the last 7 years.

It's funny but I kinda come at it from the opposite direction.

I don't care about City winning the league, because I don't care about City. I don't respect them as an institution, so them buying a league doesn't mean anything to me.

It might undermine the league, but I don't really care about the league either, other than as a vehicle for my own team to succeed.

It hurt when Utd won things because you had to accept the validity of it. You could clutch at straws about dodgy reffing or whatever (**cough** Tottenham 2009 **cough cough**), but ultimately they got there on merit.

With City, it just felt meaningless to me. Like they made up a competition and won it. Now, in that time, usually when City were winning Liverpool weren't at the races anyway, so perhaps in time losing major trophies to an illegitimate organisation will become more and more frustrating, but I don't have that feeling yet.

You know what sort of helped me get this way was going to United v Pool game , the one where Mascherano talked himself into a red. Some of the stuff in the stands from united fans was diplorable. But the stuff in the Tram on the way back to the city after the game was just horrible. There was three of us, 2 united and one Liverpool fan and even though we won we were worried about our friend (who wasn’t even wearing anything Liverpool related) and it really soured the win. I know a Liverpool fan who said the exact same when at a Liverpool v United game at Anfield.

So I learned that every fanbase has muppets and children who don’t understand there is a way to have a healthy rivalry and respect your rivals. I took great satisfaction out of Stevie Gs slip and Liverpool’s capitulation that season. I did find it a bit funny when Madrid beat pool and reading some of the anger towards Ramos. I wanted spurs to win the cL final last year. I don’t cheer on Liverpool in any game but I just don’t like city and I think a successful Liverpool puts way more pressure on United owners to get their sh*t together or just f**k off as it enrages my own fanbase and that’s a good thing as far as I’m concerned.

You don’t hate City, you feel nothing for them but you’d rather your arch rivals win it ahead of a team you supposedly don’t hate and feel nothing for?

There’s a porky in that message you wrote, it’s either not hating City or wanting United to win.

I guess I don't really hate United anymore. Maybe it's easier to say when they aren't competing......

I understand that alright, makes better sense. I’m kinda the same

I actually despise Liverpool, I’d gladly take United winning a treble every year for the next 10 years than them winning a league cup.

    Why?

Too much to go into but basically a narrowed down version would be I hate the hypocrisy & sense of entitlement out of that club. Each to their own of course, be a boring world if everyone liked the same things, plenty of Liverpool supporting mates & we have the craic rising each other, probably has stemmed from Sterling daring to leave them to win trophies, the year of Gerard’s slip which they were insufferable, onto the smashing of the bus, being knocked out of the champions league by them (I think that year was our best chance we had of winning it). Great team, great manager, great players, just not my cup of tea.

It’s quite remarkable that Emery, Pelligrini and silva are all more likely to be sacked then Ole (the least experienced of the three with a higher profile job) right now. It really shows the strength of Belief united have in their long term strategy. I’m delighted our accountant is so chuffed about our summer signings that he’s sticking to his guns ...

Woodward is a PR spin wizard so why would he step aside or restructure how things have been done. And sure isn’t he a great lad for telling us all how great that summer was for the club. We have an unproven manager, got rid of all those stupid ambitious players who don’t buy into whatever it is he we are doing, are on our supposed 3rd squad rebuild since Woodward took the reigns and we are now looking a decent shout for no better then mid table to maybe 5th in the league...

This is the surprising turnaround with the United boards' approach.

Moyes got no time whatsoever and get sacked - understandable why the board took that decision as Moyes inherited the champions and everyone associated with the club was used to success and the Moyes season was a total shock to the system.

Then you have two serial winners in Van Gaal and Mourinho. Both sacked for differing reasons but neither given much time to turn things around according to their vision.

Then you have Ole - by far the least experienced of all those managers (even Moyes) and is essentially given the keys to the kingdom. Has the United board given up? Has enough time passed now that the thinking is "Top 4 would be great, but not the end of the world if we don't get it"? Before it used to be "We need to be champions, runner-up is no good".

Acceptance of that approach is seriously what led to LFC stagnating in the 90's. In the 80's, being runner-up was a failure. Since the 90's we've been delighted with top 4. The result is no league titles in 30 years.

It's a dangerous game. Giving the manager time is admirable (if it's done for the right reason - ie. you honestly believe the manager will come good in time), but it needs to be the right manager. It just seems to me that the Utd board are using Ole has a shield against the fans due to his fan-favourite status.

I think its pretty much what you said above. .

If you are crunching the numbers , which is the only thing Uniteds owners do, they would look at how hiring big name managers and pumping some funds into the club has yielded. People think its been a massive investment from the Glazers, but it hasnt relative to the value of the club. Yes , its been alot of money but its been primarily to, as you say, keep the club sort of in the running and in or around top 4 with maybe an odd cup win. It is irrefutable at this stage, that the Man United owners are incapable of using its vast resources to harness a successful on field culture at the club.

Ole was never a solution, he was a stop gap but he gave them a chance to peddle a cheaper alternative under their bullsh*t consistent narrative of youth and rebuild at its core. He represents a yellow pack solution , hes a good human shield as they effectively asset strip the first team and cut costs to prepare for the lower revenue that will come from no European football. We were told by Woodward that "money is no object" to the club , yet our net spend the last two seasons has an average of £60million, in spite of how far everybody knows the club is from challenging for any top honors. What the club does and says regularly contradict, we have been consistently in the top 3 clubs in the world in terms of value and the club responds to the football teams demise by spending less and offloading senior players and replacing with unproven youth, what other top top club does that ?

Holding onto Pogba and/or getting an alternative massive name replacement is imperative for their brand. Its not that the team doesnt need big name players, but the club is focused on it for brand reasons then anything else, its also the easiest way of appeasing fans to a degree. I would say they may even try and somehow restructure the club to a Kevin Keegan style of football so success will be a lesser issue while the nice fancy football keeps us entertained.

You have to give it to the owners/woodward , they still have a significant portion of the fanbase fooled. .

Do they though? If they think they do they probably should peruse the Utd superthread. I can't believe it's as bleak as you say however, surely their minimum aim is CL football. Which may be fine for them but won't have you lot happy.
