Yes and some of us in vulnerable exposed places lived to regret what had been unwarned! Callum lives on forever in my mind. even with the new warnings.

I prefer the new system. Gives fair warning. And if the worst does not happen, great.

Just so I understand for future reference, is there's a guide as to what's allowed as a new thread or is it the Moderators call?

Its generally left to people with more than single digit post counts...

It looks like it's causing minor disruption at Dublin Airport.

Is there risk of storm surge and heavy rain flooding?

I reckon possibility of some trees / electricity poles down in areas effected. Land is supersatuated and where hit by high gusts - it wont take much to take same down.

Flood warnings issued for Cork city due to high spring tides.

Could Sebastian impact us much, what's the outlook for rain from this system?

poured rain for most of the afternoon at Dunshaughlin. Our road is flooded again after last night's deluge and now this evenings. Rain seems to have stopped for now.

My daily post guess what it was pouring rain when I went to work + pouring rain coming home.

It's like Groundhog day over + over again.

Driving conditions on M50 northbound were atrocious this evening. Torrential rain mixed with dense fog + flooding on lanes. Dont know how they wasn't an accident.

    Cork County Council

    Weather Alert for Coastal Areas

Met Éireann have indicated that the remnants of ex-Tropical Storm, Sebastien, will track to the South coast of Ireland overnight tonight, bringing a risk of heavy rainfall and strong winds especially on coastal areas of the county for a time during the early hours of tomorrow, Tuesday.
Cork County Council have advised that the forecasted heavy rain and easterly winds will coincide with a period of very high astronomical Spring Tides in all coastal areas tomorrow morning, between 4am and 6 am and again tomorrow evening Tuesday 26th and continuing into Wednesday 27th November 2019.
Storm surge levels are currently low in coastal areas but levels are predicted to increase, by .50m in Cork Harbour and in Bantry Bay, from tomorrow morning (Tues) until Wednesday 27th November.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to take caution in coastal areas.
Cork County Council will continue to monitor surge and sea level forecasts throughout this notice period (from Tuesday 26th to Wednesday 27th November).
Members of the public who wish to report issues/incidents at any time can contact Cork County Council on 021 4276891
Emergency issues ‘outside of business hours’ should be reported to Cork County Council at 021 4800048

Storm looking quite impressive on satellite. Cork could well flood. A lot of the ingredients are there:
    High tide - yes
Easterly gale - yes (historically dangerous direction as the previous tide backs up)
    Low pressure - yes
    Heavy rain - yes
    Ground already saturated - yes

Those dividing lines were far less complicated, yet far more useful in giving the viewer essential info than the county by county method used today, in relation to the present day warning system at least. For example, a standard 'yellow warning' gale for the west coast usually has the entire Co.s of Clare, Mayo & Galway included, yet Co. Roscommon left out, which makes no sense giving that the most eastern parts of Galway are just as much east and sheltered as much as Roscommon is, with SE'rn parts of the country being closer to Co. Loais in the S. Midlands than they are to any part of the west coast. Yet the whole country is just thrown under such a warning anyway. Makes zero sense.

That is sensible by Met Eireann putting out an advisory like that below. We might be seeing more of these from now on especially when it is mainly just effecting along coastal areas. Saying generally sub-warning level so probably just tipping yellow warning level criteria for wind on coastal fringes / headlands and same for rainfall probably just below yellow warning level in a few spots.

    ADVISORIES

Weather Advisory for Wexford, Cork and Waterford
A combination of high tides, together with appreciable, but generally sub-warning levels of wind and rain, will produce localised impacts along the south coast during Tuesday.

    Valid: Tuesday 26 November 2019 03:00 to Tuesday 26 November 2019 20:00

    Issued: Monday 25 November 2019 19:00

ICON 18Z a bit stronger again. The center of the Low more or less the same track and timing to the ECM. Will see what the other models show later.

ICON can over do the high wind readings a bit.

Deeper and a nudge East on the 18z gfs.
I'm not convinced this is a minor event for Cork/Kerry
    It has potential!!

All is blessedly beautifully quiet out here on the west coast...planning an early walk at first light.. Makes a change as we are so often in the direct line of fire... Cork looks bad.. stay safel

No big changes in the models, windy on coasts with a few higher gusts up to 90 or 100Km/h at the very most on exposed headlands in the SW and S. Very wet around Tralee earlier, rain has eased now.

Bucketing rain in Dublin 16. 8.2mm so far today.

177.4mm for the month so far. Wettest month here since February 2014 (183.2mm).

Edit: 180.0mm now for the month so far.

Spare a thought for Asford co Wicklow where the total is now 271mm for November
    That's almost 11 inches

I had a similar total near Arklow last year which was localised
As these fronts tackle the land sea border in the east ,there is evidence of random drag with rain total bumps

Exactly 100mm of rain for Month in Sligo town

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

Wet and quite windy this morning across south Laois, interestingly the wind here this morning has been stronger than "Storm Lorenzo" with a stern east wind.

A peak gust of 40mph was recorded just after 8am and is the first gale gust recorded here since Lorenzo's 39mph.

Gone over the 100mm mark also for November.

Yep wettest period I ever remember here. We often get the benefit of the rain shadow of the Wicklow mountains, it seems all the moisture is coming from the south and east and being trapped over us by the mountains!
Hopefully it comes from the north and east when the temps drop and we'll have some nice streamers!

Agreed - rain stopped here (near Riverstick Co Cork) earlier but the wind is strong, very turbulent day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,091 ✭✭✭appledrop

I thought it couldn't get any worse but this mornings weather really takes the biscuit!

Lashing rain + windy. It's going to be some monthly total at Dublin airport.

Syran what is the max recorded in Dublin airport for rainfall because I'd say this month will be pretty close.
