Had lunch in Spitjack on Tuesday, it was lovely.

Also,, La Dolce Vita looks to closed Anyone know why?

Have been to Spitjack three times in the last 6 months, took my very fussy mum the last time and she loved it, on each occasion I found it hard to fault, it's reasonably priced, good service, great food (their porchetta is something else!).
We were even offered a glass of prosecco on the house, nice touch.

Yep, it was alright. Quite simple dish really. Rice, salad and meat. My meal wasn't the best but maybe it was my fault. I got the charcoal lamb with rice. The lamb overdone, but I found out that I could have asked for medium rare. They automatically blast it to a crisp if you don't ask otherwise. I got a side of pilau rice which was very tasty.

My missus got the salmon - bloody delicious, big portion and very melt in your mouth. With a side of sweet potato fries.

Think we spent about 26 euro for the two of us. No starter or dessert.

Nobody asked if we enjoyed the meal though, and I think they should have. They were just opened up and some early feedback would be good for them. For example, they should ask if you want the meat burned or medium rare. Could have done with a bit more salad too.

I'll return for another go and ask for medium next time.

I have some pics on my phone, but don't know an easy way to post pics here.

The Indian Moon in Douglas was closed by the HSA. I haven't eaten there since it was Mario's (many years ago). This is the first time I can recall the place being closed by the HSA. I always thought there was something odd about the place. Constantly opening and closing as a take away (don't think they were HSA closure related).

Going by the Echo article, the maggots in the fish was not Indian Moon.

Gave The Grocer's Daughter a go today. We just had coffees and cake but they were lovely. The lemon cheesecake in particular was excellent.

Nob alcoholic beer only. It's a halal place.

I'd rather not eat halal meat, it seems a lot of meat is processed this way to pander to a tiny part of the population or for the export market.
I guess I'll have to stick to pork.

Good to hear. I unfortunately witnessed halal slaughter , and found it horribly cruel. And this is coming from a butchers family background where I would be fairly used to slaughterhouses. They didn’t stun the animal with halal, so they are fully conscious while the neck is slashed. Nothing like western methods where the animal is knocked out first and the humane killer bolt is used. No need for halal in this day and age.

On cafes, I also tried the grocers daughter with the children. Decent sourdough bread for eggs on toast. Nice cakes. Two thumbs up from us.

Had lunch in Ignite the other day and agree with the other poster that the lamb was overcooked. I didn't know that you could ask for it medium, I absolutely would have. I had lamb shish and my friend had beef seekh kebab, I'd say both were a tad overcooked, and as a result a little dry. I also had naan bread, which oddly tasted somewhat like pancakes...

They do have some very interesting karahi dishes on their menu that I might go back for though - says the prep time is 35-40 minutes, which I didn't have this time.

It was an Indian AND Italian restaurant! Always a bad sign.

A few years ago there was an Indian restaurant called The Curry Leaf, which was excellent, trading at that location. Then, suddenly, The Curry Leaf moved to Carrigaline and the place in Douglas became Indian Moon, which had been on Georges Quay (are you still with me??). I thought it might just have been a name-change thing with the same staff and food so tried Indian Moon once. It was absolutely manky!

No good Indian restaurant in Cork now, imo.

Juniper on Main Street Mallow (lower end across from the discount stores). Lovely new restaurant, fresh produce, quality food, good portions. Lunch specials changing frequently. Reasonably priced. Been twice, both times everything was great.

I'm a fan of Haveli in Douglas, and can't speak highly enough of Iyers, though it is not the standard take away fare of other Indian restaurants around the city.

Not too many others that I'd rate, sadly. Big fan of Indian food when I get nice stuff.

Haveli has always been top notch in my opinion; Indian Agaraah in Sundays Well isn't too bad either.

Have heard that but never make it out that way. Maybe next week!

Have often heard people blowing on about Haveli but I tried it twice and found it quite bland and disappointing.

Always thought the spice of India in Bishopstown was great for takeaway.

That's a shame. Did you eat in or take out?

They have two different menus and the eat-in menu is worth checking out, I think.

Take-away. I might try the eat-in some time. Thanks

Douglas seems to have lots of examples of bland restaurants being made out to be exceptional! The KCs phenomenon!

Whenever this notion that there is no good Indian in Cork comes out, i think Raj Gaylord has to be mentioned. Outside Cork city, but very very good in my opinion.

Spice Inn on North Main Street is good.

please don't start about KC's. It's 6am and now I want a fajita burger with their amazing garlic mayo.

Have you been there recently? We couldn't tell the difference between three main courses the last time I was there. Everything just tasted like salt. Trading on past glories maybe. Plus, 5 quid for a naan? Maybe if it was some epic naan, and was city center rates to cover, but jeez.

KC’s is nice but overrated. I wouldn’t say it’s bland though. Best take-away in Douglas imo is the Mexican place La Calavera.

The Raj Gaylord is a bit far for me to go for an Indian takeaway but if I’m going for a sit-down I’ll keep it in mind.

Agree, The Raj is very overrated and very overpriced. I usually get a curry with chicken when I go to an indian and their chicken is so rubbery, ugh.
