Anyone in the market for an 03 yaris is probably a first time driver or a very inexperienced one, insurance companies can just say "no, too old".

For reference my insurance came down when I went from a 2001 VW Bora 1.4 petrol valued at 300 euro to a 172 BMW 330e.

True ye. The L plate crew were big buyers of them.

I'd say you miss the Bora!

I miss the 330e, that's gone now too sadly, I'm back in bangernomics myself!

Jesus I'd love to see the logic behind that.

Less likely to do a crash 4 cash job and also usually if car costs more one in theory would be most careful....

Obviously that's not completely true as in any can do all of that and doesn't matter what one is driving....

I recently went from a 07 1.3 petrol,to a 12 1.6 turbo diesel costing 6 times as much, and insurance went up 38 euro. Have us by the bollixes.

    That's what it's all about.
300 quid worth of tax and new tyres, the rest of the car is basically free!

Looks like a good clean example of a scarce car these days
Had an E39 523 automatic years ago. Was a lovely car to drive, but alas, it went down the E39 route of cooling failure and fried the engine :(

Yeah, to be honest they can be a bit of a risky/scary prospect these days. I think at 800 quid though (or less!) this one could be worth a punt!

Should be solid enough, the tube of gorilla glue in the dash is nearly empty....

In other bangernomics news, it seems my time with the hybrid Civic is coming to an end after nearly six months to the day. Have it on Donedeal at the minute for €850, tested til next June and tax til November, IMA light illuminated. The phone has nearly melted, I suspect it’ll be gone very soon.

Bit disappointed to be honest. Between purchase price and maintenance it stands me €1250. I’m hoping my next buy will be a bit more successful. It was a grand car but I won’t be rushing back into anything that risky any time soon!

I’m off to look at Carinas and Corollas..

So it's basically cost you nothing to be honest....

Imagine a newer car you would be down 1000s

Ah in fairness, if I had looked after it better, I'd have caught it in time
Thermostat housing was cracked and leaking, viscous fan playing up, and eventually the water pump too

That one there at 800 is well worth a shot. Let the Civic fund it!

Its not great innings for a bangernomics car though, IMO.

I would have been happy to drive it on into next year, having to look for something new is inconvenient at the minute too!

Have an 05 S line A4 avant coming my way tomorrow, cheap, and tested. So realistically I may just jump into that. Or the Yaris I posted a few pages back.

    I'm spoilt for choice!

Looks very tidy, not cheap but has 8 months tax on it so evens itself out a bit:
