    The Larry Sanders Show

A brilliant comedy and an acerbic insider view of the late night talk show business. Its star & creator, Garry Shandling, knew the subject matter well, having guest hosted the Johnny Carson show on many occasions.

For those unfamiliar with it, the show was inventively set up, splitting the action between 'on-air' front-of-house interviews with Hollywood A-listers, before shifting backstage to deliver a darker & more jaundiced take on how talent in Hollywood often (mis)behaved. The guest appearances are testament to just how highly regarded the show was - Seinfeld, Sharon Stone, John Stewart, Jim Carrey, Letterman, Warren Beatty, Robin Williams and too many others to mention. Musical guests too included acts as diverse as Michael Bolton & Elvis Costello to the Wu Tang Clan & The Butthole Surfers.

It established HBO's creative credentials within the industry, profoundly influenced the likes of Seinfeld, Curb & Extras and acted as a springboard for a fairly hefty array of talent - Jeffrey Tambor, Judd Apatow, Bob Odenkirk & Jeremy Piven amongst them.

Somewhat in the same vein, but does anyone remember a show from the mid 90's called Night Stand with Dick Dietrich (or something similar), it was a piss take of the afternoon shows like Montel, Sally Jesse Raphael etc

Couldn't stand it in English, accents were just immersion breaking. Watched it in German dub and found it brilliant

    What channel is it on?

Dublin murders is not bad just watched the first few episodes.

The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert ford is one on the most underrated movies of the last few years. The music and cinematography is amazing.

Some good movies i have seen lately:

    The Red Sea Diving Resort

How did you get past the terrible soundtrack? We got bored rewinding to try and make out what they were saying, totally ruined what was meant to be a good show

Gomorrah, it's about the mafia in Naples, it's in subtitles, but if you like a crime drama ,it's an excellent series

    Just finished "Easy" on Netflix.

3 seasons. An anthology series (but some characters reoccur) set entirely in Chicago.

All about relationships, family, love and life. Great cast, clever dialogue and themes. I really enjoyed it.

As the title suggests, give me your favorite films or series to watch. My suggestion is El Dragón: Return of a Warrior on Netflix.

    American Horror Story

Nightflyers that was made here in Limerick is a very good sci-fi series.

It's so terrible I couldn't even finish, and it was cancelled due to bad ratings. For excellent sci-fi, The Expanse or Battlestar Galactica are king.

I have met a lot of people that did not like this movie and even some that turned it off, so you are right not everyones cup of tea. I have watched it well over a dozen times and I think it might just be my favourite movie. The train robbery scene at night when the lights of the train comes though the trees and they are all standing there with sacks on their heads is a masterpiece. My brother emigrated to Edmonton Canada a few years back and he sent me a pic of the barbers chair that brad Pitt sat in during the movie. A lot of the movie was shot around Alberta. I read that it was almost 4 hours long originally and had to be cut .

Unforgotten. Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar. All 3 series are worth a watch, but series 1 is definitely the best.

I did find some dialogue hard to decipher, but the story is good so i presevered.

You might like to try the Angel and the Sacha Baron Cohen series (The Spy) both are on Netflix.

theres a film called 'Love' produced by Tom DeLonge formerly of Blink182, whose new band Angels & Airwaves also did the soundtrack to.

it starts with an American civil-war battle but focuses mostly on a lone astronaut on the International Space Station in the present day, has a 'Moon' vibe to it...

its up on youtube in HD

    All TV series

Detectorists - Two lads with metal detectors set in the English Countryside - very easy going with light humour

The Knick - Set in the early 20th century about medical advances and surgeons self medicating mostly with liquid cocaine

The Deuce - Last episode aired this week and made by the creator of The Wire. About the porno industry in the US in the 1970's/80's

Rumpole of the Bailey - About a London barrister in the 1970's - quite quirky but the writing is great and I think only on Vimeo

Patrick Melrose - Mini series about a messed up heir of a wealthy family

A Simple Plan is a good film. If you have a Roku or a Fire Stick you can watch it free on a channel called Popcornflix. They also have the original The Stepfather.
