A film that more people should watch is The Hill, from 1965, starring Sean Connery. Well acted, really tense, just an overall bloody great movie that doesn't deserve to languish in relative obscurity.

The Shield, starring (among others but most importantly) Michael Chiklis.

An under appreciated classic imo, definitely not a run of the mill procedural cop show.

Nightflyers that was made here in Limerick is a very good sci-fi series.

First three seasons of 24 are great, the rest are mixed. A film you may not have heard of that I recommend is The Gift, starring Jason Bateman.

Couldn't stand it in English, accents were just immersion breaking. Watched it in German dub and found it brilliant

This one will get you from the opening scenes.
It's quite different from most in the genre.

    Return of the Living Dead.

Early 80s zombie movie that’s hilarious and disgusting with great music.

    On netflix still I believe.

My favourite 3 shows from the last few years:

    The Expanse
    Mr Robot
    Ozark

Think they are all worth a watch.

Night Gallery. Presented by Rob Serling better known for The Twilight Zone.
This series features tales of the supernatural/horror.

At the moment im watching season one of Midnight Texas and season three of Slasher and both are pretty good. If you like something funny i think Dirty Rotten Scoundrels or Still Game are both good.

I'm watching it at the moment, for the 2nd time and halfways thru series 5. It's my wife's first time seeing it.
I remembered it to be a lot better for some reason. It's extremely slow moving and not as good as I'd thought the first time round.

The Wire, for me anyway, blows it out of the water. Best show I've ever seen and I've seen it 3 times.
Second favourite would be Frasier then Breaking Bad.
I watched Frasier from start to finish last year and it's remarkable how well it stands up to modern comedy. Fantastic show and very well written.

Purely for laughs, Always Sunny would probably be the funniest show I've ever seen. Easily.

I don't want to come across as suggesting Spanish films, but Surviving Escobar is also a good film based on true events.

    The Larry Sanders Show

A brilliant comedy and an acerbic insider view of the late night talk show business. Its star & creator, Garry Shandling, knew the subject matter well, having guest hosted the Johnny Carson show on many occasions.

For those unfamiliar with it, the show was inventively set up, splitting the action between 'on-air' front-of-house interviews with Hollywood A-listers, before shifting backstage to deliver a darker & more jaundiced take on how talent in Hollywood often (mis)behaved. The guest appearances are testament to just how highly regarded the show was - Seinfeld, Sharon Stone, John Stewart, Jim Carrey, Letterman, Warren Beatty, Robin Williams and too many others to mention. Musical guests too included acts as diverse as Michael Bolton & Elvis Costello to the Wu Tang Clan & The Butthole Surfers.

It established HBO's creative credentials within the industry, profoundly influenced the likes of Seinfeld, Curb & Extras and acted as a springboard for a fairly hefty array of talent - Jeffrey Tambor, Judd Apatow, Bob Odenkirk & Jeremy Piven amongst them.

As a fan of the horror film genre, I could recommend lots of horror classics for Halloween night.

But if you truly want to be shocked and frightened, watch the film Threads from 1984. Very very difficult watch...

Larry Clarkes films Kids from 1995 or the film about the Bobby Kent murder called Bully from 2001.

Oz is a good HBO show that doesn't get mentioned as much as The Wire or The Sopranos.

The fifth season of The Sopranos is one of my favorites, with Feech, Angelo, Phill & Billy, and Tony's cousin Tony'B coming into the show & Larry Boy returning from jail since the end of season 1.

Oz was a great series. There is a new series called 60 days in where civilians willingly go to jail for 60 days. One of them is Muhamad Ali's daughter. It's a good watch to learn what really goes on in US jails.

Somewhat in the same vein, but does anyone remember a show from the mid 90's called Night Stand with Dick Dietrich (or something similar), it was a piss take of the afternoon shows like Montel, Sally Jesse Raphael etc

Dublin murders is not bad just watched the first few episodes.

The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert ford is one on the most underrated movies of the last few years. The music and cinematography is amazing.

    Just finished "Easy" on Netflix.

3 seasons. An anthology series (but some characters reoccur) set entirely in Chicago.

All about relationships, family, love and life. Great cast, clever dialogue and themes. I really enjoyed it.

It's so terrible I couldn't even finish, and it was cancelled due to bad ratings. For excellent sci-fi, The Expanse or Battlestar Galactica are king.

I have met a lot of people that did not like this movie and even some that turned it off, so you are right not everyones cup of tea. I have watched it well over a dozen times and I think it might just be my favourite movie. The train robbery scene at night when the lights of the train comes though the trees and they are all standing there with sacks on their heads is a masterpiece. My brother emigrated to Edmonton Canada a few years back and he sent me a pic of the barbers chair that brad Pitt sat in during the movie. A lot of the movie was shot around Alberta. I read that it was almost 4 hours long originally and had to be cut .
