Amazon Fire Stick error 5505

Hopefully someone might be able to help me out with this issue. I have amazon prime which I use on my laptop and phone with no issues. I contacted amazon customer when I signed up originally to change my location to the UK.

I bought the Fire Stick so I could watch on my TV but keep getting the error 5505 message when I try to watch anything on Prime. Downloaded express VPN but still get the same message.

Is there anything that can be done?. My location is already set to the UK so not sure why I can't watch Prime the same way I can on my laptop and phone.

    Any ideas would be appreciated

I was having a weird issue the last week with prime video where I could no longer stream on my Fire TV, fire stick nor the browser version on amazon.co.uk with or without a smart DNS but was still able to stream no bother on the prime video smart TV app with no smart DNS.

I got on ot the support chat yesterday and told them the above and just asked can they make sure my location settings are properly set to the UK.

They said they updated my settings and I was instantly able to stream on all devices again.

I did exactly what you said and the issue was resolved. Nice one, thanks for your help.

I tried Amazon four times - the first 3 said they couldn't help becuase I shouldn't have it in Ireland even though I can watch Prime on Ps4

4th guy I spoke to on chat fixed it in about 30 seconds

    typical call centre experience

This thread is a bit old now, but it comes up on google for the 5505 error which I had, so I'm posting this in case anyone else needs help.

I contacted Amazon using the chat and the agent updated my video location (territory). It took 30 seconds and a reboot later and I now have amazon prime on my fire tv stick.

My second gen was giving me the 5505. contacted Amazon chat, no problem works fine now.
Youtube showed how to add on a few channels but when I opened Downloader I recieved a notification on my mobile saying I had recieved it. So Amazon must know when you add on. Do they care? I have a prime account and just wanted some Irish/English home channels, nothing fancy? On the notification it said €0.00 cost for Downloader, so it's free. I didn't go any further incase it caused any hassel with Amazon.
So what you think, will they be bothered?

I just hit the error code 5505 issue on my Fire TV box from 2015 - had been working fine up to yesterday.
Got on to chat, and they weren't going to do much for me, this was the reply:
In this case, if you want access Prime Videos in Ireland I'd suggest you to purchase a "Fire TV Stick | Basic Edition - International Version" which can also be accessed in Ireland.
    Or
Once you return to UK you can access the videos without any issues.

I didn't want to get too indignant with them, amazon chat have been dead on for me in the past. Is it likely a different agent will just fix it no questions asked if I try again?
Prime continues to work fine for me on my tablet and phone. Is it only an issue affecting certain Fire TV devices or something? I had been considering upgrading to an Nvidia Shield soon, wondering if that would work fine like the tablet/phone

the RTE player didnt work very well for me,

for the English channels you will need a VPN AFAIK

I've got a paid sub for IPTV there's loads of them round but depending on how techy your aul lad is (mine wouldn't be the best and he can use it from his Smart TV)

Hiya, having the same issues, just wondering do you have your locations on your account when you log in set to UK or Ireland. I put in my address and it had it as republic of Ireland. I have the error code 5505, also had it when it said UK. If I contact support to request they have my settings as UK should I change it manually myself first? Thanks

My address is UK (Parcel Motel) and my one click card is UK (Revolut Virtual Card). I set my account's country to United Kingdom. When that didn't work I got onto the chat, mentioned the error after updating my account details and they fixed it up for me.

Thanks, I didn't change anything myself in the end. I just chatted to amazon, they changed it for me and it works perfectly! My home address was Ireland as is my payment details. All good.

Firestick was on ‘special’ again last week so including addresspal it was just under €30. Plugged it in today and got the 5505 error, got onto amazon chat and after typing my query the agents 1st response was “try it now”! Heh presto it was sorted.

I've been on to them and all they keep telling me is to either register a UK credit card or to set the card address to a UK address. Spent the last hour going in circles. Have given up now.

Another data point here: the FireStick I have will only work in the UK, as it was purchased in the UK (back in 2017!) and is UK-specific; they have an "international" one which will work anywhere.

What this means: I can access any content through the FireStick that is via a 3rd party, e.g. YouTube or Netflix, but I cannot access Amazon Prime Video.

Solution for me: get the "international" (country-non-specific) FireStick. This will be good for me whenever I go abroad.

I suspect having a UK-based credit card and having the country settings in my Amazon account to the UK would work as well; unfortunately that's not an option for me.

Been having the same issue here, round and around in circles. They said I have 2nd generation and it only works UK

I purchased two fire tv sticks (4k) and was having exact same 5505 error as other folks. Was driving me crazy, had tried everything to fix. I followed advice here and got onto an Amazon customer support agent on chat.

He changed a "required account setting" as he put it, I rebooted my device and now works perfectly. Thank for the heads up.

(Didn't need UK registered credit card or anything like that).

If you go to the "Country / Region Settings" here

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/mycd/myx#/home/settings/payment

you can change that to "Ireland, Republic of" and that should get most people working.

I was very annoyed with an Amazon chat person who simply kept robotically repeating to me, "UK-specific content cannot be accessed outside the UK". Sometimes you have to fix things yourself, apparently.
