Amazon Fire Stick error 5505

Hopefully someone might be able to help me out with this issue. I have amazon prime which I use on my laptop and phone with no issues. I contacted amazon customer when I signed up originally to change my location to the UK.

I bought the Fire Stick so I could watch on my TV but keep getting the error 5505 message when I try to watch anything on Prime. Downloaded express VPN but still get the same message.

Is there anything that can be done?. My location is already set to the UK so not sure why I can't watch Prime the same way I can on my laptop and phone.

    Any ideas would be appreciated

I was having a weird issue the last week with prime video where I could no longer stream on my Fire TV, fire stick nor the browser version on amazon.co.uk with or without a smart DNS but was still able to stream no bother on the prime video smart TV app with no smart DNS.

I got on ot the support chat yesterday and told them the above and just asked can they make sure my location settings are properly set to the UK.

They said they updated my settings and I was instantly able to stream on all devices again.

I did exactly what you said and the issue was resolved. Nice one, thanks for your help.

I tried Amazon four times - the first 3 said they couldn't help becuase I shouldn't have it in Ireland even though I can watch Prime on Ps4

4th guy I spoke to on chat fixed it in about 30 seconds

    typical call centre experience

This thread is a bit old now, but it comes up on google for the 5505 error which I had, so I'm posting this in case anyone else needs help.

I contacted Amazon using the chat and the agent updated my video location (territory). It took 30 seconds and a reboot later and I now have amazon prime on my fire tv stick.

Awesome, thanks a lot, the chat options also worked as a quick fix for me.

I contacted chat with error 5505, "answer, 2nd gen firestick will not work in ireland", gave up then.

I even tried a parcel wizard as default as i was "in the UK"

My second gen was giving me the 5505. contacted Amazon chat, no problem works fine now.
Youtube showed how to add on a few channels but when I opened Downloader I recieved a notification on my mobile saying I had recieved it. So Amazon must know when you add on. Do they care? I have a prime account and just wanted some Irish/English home channels, nothing fancy? On the notification it said €0.00 cost for Downloader, so it's free. I didn't go any further incase it caused any hassel with Amazon.
So what you think, will they be bothered?

    Ok, thanks.
I'd like to have a set up for my old man to watch, Rte,BBC, C4,SKY type channels. any sugestions of an app for those?

I just hit the error code 5505 issue on my Fire TV box from 2015 - had been working fine up to yesterday.
Got on to chat, and they weren't going to do much for me, this was the reply:
In this case, if you want access Prime Videos in Ireland I'd suggest you to purchase a "Fire TV Stick | Basic Edition - International Version" which can also be accessed in Ireland.
    Or
Once you return to UK you can access the videos without any issues.

I didn't want to get too indignant with them, amazon chat have been dead on for me in the past. Is it likely a different agent will just fix it no questions asked if I try again?
Prime continues to work fine for me on my tablet and phone. Is it only an issue affecting certain Fire TV devices or something? I had been considering upgrading to an Nvidia Shield soon, wondering if that would work fine like the tablet/phone

the RTE player didnt work very well for me,

for the English channels you will need a VPN AFAIK

I've got a paid sub for IPTV there's loads of them round but depending on how techy your aul lad is (mine wouldn't be the best and he can use it from his Smart TV)

Hiya, having the same issues, just wondering do you have your locations on your account when you log in set to UK or Ireland. I put in my address and it had it as republic of Ireland. I have the error code 5505, also had it when it said UK. If I contact support to request they have my settings as UK should I change it manually myself first? Thanks

My address is UK (Parcel Motel) and my one click card is UK (Revolut Virtual Card). I set my account's country to United Kingdom. When that didn't work I got onto the chat, mentioned the error after updating my account details and they fixed it up for me.

Thanks, I didn't change anything myself in the end. I just chatted to amazon, they changed it for me and it works perfectly! My home address was Ireland as is my payment details. All good.

Hi was getting the error 5505 too and got onto amazon chat, agent changed my location, turned off device fully turned back on and presto it worked. Thanks for posting..

Firestick was on ‘special’ again last week so including addresspal it was just under €30. Plugged it in today and got the 5505 error, got onto amazon chat and after typing my query the agents 1st response was “try it now”! Heh presto it was sorted.

I've been on to them and all they keep telling me is to either register a UK credit card or to set the card address to a UK address. Spent the last hour going in circles. Have given up now.

Would try again another day think it depends on the person u get through too.....

Another data point here: the FireStick I have will only work in the UK, as it was purchased in the UK (back in 2017!) and is UK-specific; they have an "international" one which will work anywhere.

What this means: I can access any content through the FireStick that is via a 3rd party, e.g. YouTube or Netflix, but I cannot access Amazon Prime Video.

Solution for me: get the "international" (country-non-specific) FireStick. This will be good for me whenever I go abroad.

I suspect having a UK-based credit card and having the country settings in my Amazon account to the UK would work as well; unfortunately that's not an option for me.

Been having the same issue here, round and around in circles. They said I have 2nd generation and it only works UK

I purchased two fire tv sticks (4k) and was having exact same 5505 error as other folks. Was driving me crazy, had tried everything to fix. I followed advice here and got onto an Amazon customer support agent on chat.

He changed a "required account setting" as he put it, I rebooted my device and now works perfectly. Thank for the heads up.

(Didn't need UK registered credit card or anything like that).

If you go to the "Country / Region Settings" here

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/mycd/myx#/home/settings/payment

you can change that to "Ireland, Republic of" and that should get most people working.

I was very annoyed with an Amazon chat person who simply kept robotically repeating to me, "UK-specific content cannot be accessed outside the UK". Sometimes you have to fix things yourself, apparently.

Yes ser to Ireland but I change to uk and still doesn't work.ive been on so many chats now over the past few weeks and each time they say the same that I've a uk model I need the international one.

Yeah, if you buy the FireTV or FireTV 4K you'll have hassle. Buy the basic and itll work right away. Its totally retarded but there you go.

I suspect then you may have one of the FireSticks that is UK-only, and if you want it to work for Amazon Prime Video content, you'll need to purchase another "international" version.

However, you may be able to access content via 3rd-party apps on the FireStick, such as NetFlix; it's just the Amazon Prime Video content that won't work (because it's outside the UK).

I have the basic fire stick and still had to get Amazon web chat to allow me to access prime video content on it when used in Ireland.

he also said that if I access prime video on another non-amazon device e.g. a laptop that it (setting change) would have to be done again as that would reset the change that he made.

this issue stems from the fact that these fire stick / tv products are not to be sold for shipping to Ireland ( only if you use a redirect service like parcel motel etc ) and the amazon prime content is not configured to work on them when in use in Ireland

being honest the content is not that great really.

the fire stick itself can be useful for other services.

Had this error. Got on the chat to an agent called Pakrash. He sorted it in a few mins. Just had to reboot the firestick after and all worked ok.

2 min web chat, told them error 5505 and regional error, fixed it in a jiffy.

Have'nt tried in a long time to fix that, might give it a go as some people seem to be getting somewhere.

if you are a prime subscriber just get on web chat and ask straight off could they please change the setting to enable your fire tv to work for prime content in Ireland.

if they don't agree just try again later and you'll get a different person

but you shouldn't have a problem.

If (like me) the Amazon live-chat gets you nowhere you can do the following:

    1. Open the Silk Web Browser on the Fire TV
    2. Go to primevideo.com and login (tick 'Keep me signed in' and also save password if prompted - makes it easier to log back in)
    3. At the top of the screen in Silk Browser there is a button to show the desktop version of the site, click it.
    4. Select a movie or TV show, when you click the play button it will play it in the native Prime Video app with no 5505 error.

You can add a shortcut to "primevideo.com/mystuff/watchlist/" on the Fire TV homescreen by installing an app called "Bookmarker 1" from the official app store. When you open it first you enter the url and choose 'Silk Browser'. Every time you click it in the future it will open your Prime Video watchlist in Silk Browser with just one click.

Another solution is to install the Android TV app version of Prime Video on the Fire TV.

The apk can be downloaded at this link:
    gofile.io/?c=BBBdPJ
    -- or --
    drive.google.com/file/d/1Nv80eU5QRYKh1rMOx35UsG_BE6XTEimE/view

It worked for me with no 5505 error

I got the link from this XDA post - forum.xda-developers.com/android-stick--console-computers/help/app-amazon-prime-video-apk-sony-tv-t3981747

Do you download it with the browser on the firestick?

No, the Silk Browser on the Fire TV does not allow downloads.

This link shows you how to install an apk: lifewire.com/how-to-sideload-fire-tv-apps-on-your-fire-tv-4582671

Open the Settings menu on your Fire TV device --> Select My Fire TV --> Select Developer options --> Turn on both ADB debugging and Apps from Unknown Sources

You then install an app called "Downloader" from the official Fire TV app store.

Open "Downloader" and enter this URL:
    gofile.io/?c=BBBdPJ

The webpage will open within the "Downloader" app - click the download button on the webpage.

It should then download and install the app.

Anyone ever got that setup working in firetv?

I had this issue and changing my locale to Republic of Ireland had no effect.

I am a Amazon Prime UK member but went to Amazon.com support chat @ https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/general-questions.html?

went to "Devices - FireTablet, FireTV, Echo etc."

    Selected my Device..

    Picked "Fire TV Device"

    Then picked "Prime Video"

    then lastly "Problem Streaming/Downloading Video"

I then picked the Recommended "Chat" to talk to someone.

i set chat title question as "I am getting a error 5505 when trying to view primevideo on my firestick"

    Chat went as so...
09:23 AM PDT *******(Amazon): Hello, my name is *******. I'm here to help you today.
I'm sorry that you are getting error while streaming on fire stick device.
May I know your current location?
09:24 AM PDT Myself: Republic of Ireland
09:24 AM PDT *******: Have you subscribed for Prime through Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk?
    09:24 AM PDT Myself: .co.uk i believe
09:26 AM PDT *******: Myself, it seems you accidentally contacted Amazon.com instead of Amazon.co.uk.
However, please do not worry, I will check and try my best to help you.
Just to confirm, did you purchase the Fire stick device from Amazon.co.uk?
09:26 AM PDT Myself: no, i purchased it on a kiosk in the UK
09:27 AM PDT *******: Okay, thanks for the info.
Please allow me a moment to check this for you.
    Thanks for waiting.
09:28 AM PDT *******: Myself, I've made some changes in your account, can you check if the prime video working on fire stick or still getting error?
09:28 AM PDT Myself: ok, let me check
    09:28 AM PDT *******: Sure.
09:30 AM PDT Myself: okay, yes it seems to working now
    09:30 AM PDT *******: Great !!!!!
I set the video home territory to your location and as per your Fire stick device.
Please be rest assured, you won't face this issue now.
    It wasn't set before.
09:31 AM PDT Myself: Thank you *******, will i have to do that on my other firestick too?
    i have two
09:31 AM PDT *******: You can check that one too.
    That should also work now.
09:31 AM PDT Myself: okay will check that now too
    09:31 AM PDT *******: Sure.
    Please do.
09:34 AM PDT *******: Did you check the other one too?
09:36 AM PDT Myself: okay sorry had to boot it up cold, took a little while, yes it's working now, thank you!
09:36 AM PDT *******: You're most welcome, Is there anything else I can do to bring a smile on your face?

09:36 AM PDT Myself: That's all *******, thanks for your assistance.
09:36 AM PDT *******: Thanks for contacting Amazon.
It was a pleasure assisting you today. We look forward to seeing you soon.
    Have a great day !
    Stay safe, Bye!!!
Please click "End Chat" to close this window.

... hopefully this method will work for others.

    Hi,

If it's any help, had the same problem since I got my firestick some weeks ago. Tried all the google tips including the ones here. Came across this thread and follow the link to web chat.
The very helpful Jade checked out my account(Prime Subscriber) and asked me to restart the fire stick and all prime videos working now.

    Thanks all.
