Zero doubt about it. Two world cup semis, two undefeated lions tours, a few grand slams to boot. The guy is a legend!

Let's not bring up O'Sullivan shafting him.

    Marginally less worse team.:)

Neither were tearing it up, lets be honest.
Well, a game of two halves. French doing what they do best in first half but blew it through missed kicks , usual indiscipline and some red mist. Wales did what they do best by hanging in and nicking it.

They were poor. They only won because the french threw it away and they got a try off a forward pass. They looked very different to the Wales who beat Australia a few weeks ago. If they can turn it around they might make the final though.

They were woeful against France in 6n too but won the slam. Like Ireland 2018

    Every game is different.

I expect a huge performance from them in the semis. They'll need it

Do tell us though how you figure they 'turned up'? France should have put them away even with 14 men.

They got lucky, very lucky as it turns out, nothing bitter in stating the facts.

The only facts that matter are the winner of the game I'm afraid

Unfortunately performance levels and subjective opinions don't come into it

I'm more looking on with envy really. We should be a much better side than Wales yet they have the two semis to back it up. And the grand slams!

Wales got immensely lucky. They will need to improve and they will I’d imagine. They won’t care one bit how they got there. France has there chances didn’t take them. Gifted wales a few tries. Continued to pick an ogre in second row despite knowing his behavior.

If we were up to much ourselves we would be on this side of the draw to capitalize. We aren’t because unlike France and wales we lost our crunch group game and paid the price in the draw

Why should we be better than Wales?

Fair play to Wales but dear god did they just about shuffle across the finish line here against a typically harebrained France with 14 players. And the ball going forward there before that try...... wow. Just bizarre that wasn't picked up.

A win is a win yes but if you can't see how utterly unconvincing that was either your clueless about rugby or maybe missed portions of the game.

Course we're bitter if we don't say well done Wales a great result.

So, you were gonna outline how you reckon the Welsh 'turned up'?

They didn't, they were well below their own performance level even in this tournament.

They made a semi because another team basically beat themselves.

I am happy for them...in the way I'd be happy for someone who won on a scratchcard.

Why should we be better than Wales?

Our clubs deliver in Europe, we have a better 15 on paper, much more depth and more often than not we're more consistent than them

Yet they have an incredible winning mentality. They were helped out well today, but they still won the crucial group game to avoid England and overall they have form for really turning up in the big matches

Has anyone said they were convincing? A few have said they won and that’s all that matters

    So...

We're all on the Japan bandwagon yeah??

I've switched over to eir cos its too raw to watch the recap of yesterday's game

For crying out loud I never said they turned up today specifically

    It's a more generic comment

You seem to have an almost unhealthy obsession with knocking everything England and Wales

I'd bite your hand off for Ireland to make a semi by any bloody means necessary.

Performance levels absolutely come into it. You think Gatland or the players will be happy with that? He said it himself after the match, the best team lost. On our day we are a much better side than wales.

Had to make a bit of breakfast there...did ITV not look at that rip and potential offside at all?

It's Sunday so some self-flagellation is called for! I'd switch as O'Sullivan can barely keep his mouth shut for 5 seconds and keeps cutting across others.

Welsh club rugby can’t really be compared to ireland. There are so many variables both historic and not at play as well as the number of starting 15 playing abroad.

We have roughly 25,000 senior players. Wales has about 22,000. What that doesn’t tell you is the athletes playing the game. A lot of wales top athletes will go rugby. The game is the nations sport. The GAA hoovers up a lot here.

Well no but they'll surely be a damn sight happier than if they played outstanding and lost

By your logic do you think France will be the happier side right now?

And on 'their day' they're a much better side than us... As seen in the six nations.

I have seen nothing over the last ten years to suggest Ireland are in any way a better team overall, or are any more consistent.

If anything Wales have the edge on both of those historically...

    Very true

In fairness it was me who made the consistency comment

I suppose it was more in relation to we generally come 3rd at worst in 6n and usually grab a few wins in autumn series

Some seasons Wales come 4th or 5th in 6n and are almost whitewashed in autumn

But I agree with you overall

I think Japan might do the business today (hopefully).

    This is 2011 SF reversed.

We played a great game, our best since... the RWC 2011 final. Even down to 14 men, we competed and we did not see we were down 1 man. Wales try is not scandalous (there's a very minor forward movement) but denying it wouldn't have been scandalous either. Don't know if we'd have held on but anyway, we shall leave away the frustration and disappointment and focus on the real important thing this WC showed us.

I've been proven right in front of the eyes of the whole rugby World! I'm hammering it for 10+ years, this is clear-cut: current Top 14 format is harmful to Les Bleus. After 4-5 months without it, that is a good preparation, good recovery, time to work on gameplans, building of team cohesion, etc... , we can compete against major teams. We beat Argentina, drew England (haha ^^) and dominated Grand Slam winner Wales.

Everyone in France was prepared to accept us not getting off the group phase for the first time ever and in the end we should be in the semi-final but Vahaamahina hot-headed stupidity.

So please, big headed fat bodies of the FFR remodel the Top 14!!!

Grand slam and a world cup semi

Such respect for them. Hopefully they make a final now

If they are to have a chance they will need a massive improvement on their showing today. Very very lucky to win the match.

I see it going that SA will starve Japan of the ball all the while Japan’s manic line speed won’t work against the dominant SA carriers who will be putting them on the back foot. SA will just batter them into submission physically in both attack and defense. 5 big games in a row now may take its toll

We definitely have more dept and our provinces wipe the floor with their regions, however, on paper it could be argued that their starting 15 is as good as ours.

Ireland would love to have the likes of Liam Williams, Jonathan Davies, Navidi, Toby Faletau(if fit) and Dan Biggar(wouldn't start ahead of Sexton but who knows on form) etc. Theres also alot if arguable ones, is Rory Best that much better than Ken Owens? Gareth Davies cant pass but offers something different to our scrum halves... North and Stockdale are a much of a much.
