Di Fontaines used to be a top notch slice. Quality has taken an absolute dive in the last couple of years. Wonder if some change-up in ownership? Base no longer chewy deliciousness, overall a hot greasy mess these days.

For shame. It was a bona fide taste of New York style pizza.

Sano pizza is great value, and so delicious. Most pizzas are under €10, bar the specials. It's a big space so you won't be long waiting for a table. My only complaint was the sauce for your 99 ice cream for dessert, which arrived in a little jug to the table, not on the ice cream. Safe to say more ended up on the table and my clothes than the ice cream :pac:

I think I said it before in this thread, but I agree that DiFontaines has gone to greasy crap. Totally inedible the last time I got it. Would prefer Dollard & Co if I'm craving a slice after a few drinks.

Dublin Pizza Company is my best takeaway pizza.

Pi is the overall best pizza.

Special mention to Aperitivo on Parliament St., a cute wee place that specialises in veggie and vegan pizza. Only been there once but it was great.

Does anywhere do deep dish in Dublin?

I dont think there is. Pizza Hut on Suffolk St. used to do deep pan pizzas alright but they're gone now. Have never had Chicago style myself and wouldnt mind trying it but there doesnt seem to be any options in Dublin

Has Manifesto even got a mention here? Obviously the esteemed voters of this award aren’t Boardies! ;)

Pi is delicious. For take out Tiger in Rathmines is hard to beat. The most disappointing over the last year has been Base. We live close to one of their places and when they changed the menu the quality changed too. too many bad experiences put us off completely.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,619 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Would agree with the inconsistency of Base, had a couple of pizzas from their Terenure branch recently and they just werent as good as a couple of years ago.

Not Dublin but had a pizza from Al Vesuvio on the main street of Newbridge a few weeks back and it was excellent. They're doing pizzas wood fired neapolitan style.

Heard good things about it. But I only had it as takeaway in a friends and it was very meh. Granted good pizza doesn't travel very well so I'd have an open mind and would try it in house.

Birthday on Wednesday and I'm being treated to a meal (my annual one :pac:), want to go for a simple pizza nothing too dear. Have personally posted in here about Sano and a few other places... what's my best shout, stick with Sano? Around Dublin 2 area.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,619 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Maybe give Pi or Forno 500 a try if you havent been. They're a bit more expensive than Sano but wont break the bank either, besides you're not paying :pac:

Tried Forno before, prefer Sano. Not sure I'm bothered with all the queuing which seems to go with Pi after work either... eating in pint time :pac:

They take your name and number and let you when your table is available now so no need to queue

Pi is the best pizza I've eaten in Dublin lately. Highly recommend.

Going with Sano... €25 on Groupon for two pizzas, two desserts & two drinks! Basically giving it away!

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,619 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

What a bargain, a sit down meal for two in the city centre for €25, cant go wrong with that

    Sano? Phenomenal.
Rua? Great, but mind the €7 a bottle Moretti.
Platform is...okay, it was nice but not worth the price.

There are two excellent options in Dun Laoghaire.

Shovelhead pizza. They use Toonsbridge mozzarella, its crazy good.

00 in Dun Loaghaire also, thin base minimalist style. You can taste different flavours with each bite. Actually i'm getting one of these tonight at thinking of the roasted garlic flavour just now.

+1 on 00. Ate there last Friday and thought it really excellent. Thin, elastic dough.

I've just been to the number one on that list in London. It was lovely but Forno 500,for me, was almost on a par.

I may be biased (being local enough) but the pizza in McGarry's, Harold's X is the bee's knees for, admittedly, pub pizza. Proper pizza oven, fresh, €13 with a craft beer. Cheaper with Heineken/Carlsberg

    Manifesto in Rathmines.
Get the Mami, won pizza of the year in 2006
    Phenomenal

Coke Lane Pizza in the back of Lucky's bar on Meath Street is the best I've had in a long time.

Went for the €25 Groupon deal in Sano during the week. Pizza was delicious as always but maybe just a bit too much sauce on it which made it pretty sloppy. Made the mistake of ordering the sundae for dessert, my god they are massive and after a pizza I came no-where near finishing it. At a guess its the equivalent of eating 3 99's
