First Irish act to top the UK album chart in nearly 20 years now. Hozier has never had an album higher than #3 there.

I hate to be thay guy, but who?
I had to google him...i guess what is it, is now strange and confusing to me

Not sure I've heard of him, likely have on the radio and not known who it was.

Don't tell me, is he one of these folk like Ed Sheeran or Lewis Capaldi, all moody?

I'm guessing U2 were the last irish no 1

He’s pretty deadly for what he is. He’s a good version of that cookie cutter singer-songwriter.

    Fair play to him :)

No idea who he is. How do kids know about music these days? When I were a lad I'd just watch MTV to know what I liked.

    Very good artist tbh.

Advise checking out previous single 'glory'.

    Who?

EDIT, did a quick search and I know his outnumbered song, and it's not for me.

I heard that outnumbered song before, seems grand if you like that sort of stuff, it’s all been done before though just slightly different enough not to be sued for copyright.

A Lazarus soul are a more talented Irish band struggling to make it. The d they put between the r and l was the best Irish album I’ve heard in years. Most Irish people I know havnt heard of them. Playing whelans at the end of the month.

Heard the song on the wireless, only learned his name on this thread.
    Seems very moody

I went on to google to see what he looked like. Bit of a skobie head on him. It was the people also searched for thing that got me though. They had a picture of this horrific looking mutant called Lewis Capaldi. His face put me off my pint - and very very few things are capable of putting me off my pint of porter.

Damien Rice, Two Door Cinema Club, The Thrills, Hozier, James Vincent McMorrow, Fontaines DC, Imelda May, Kodaline, Niall Horan... none of these acts have ever had a UK #1 album, debut or otherwise. Dermot has.

Ronan Keating was the last Irish artist whose debut album reached #1 in the UK. In 2000.

Let all of that sink in.

    How deadly?

Could he kill a man with his hands tied behind his back and blindfolded, while the other guy has a gun?

I don't mind if he looks a little scobie. To write great stuff it is virtually essential to look ordinary. It's the pretty ones you have to watch out for - ruined music for the last 2 decades or so. Give the plain folk a chance! Bring good sounds back.

You probably write songs like the blowers daughter everyday. Throw them in the bin, not the sound you are looking for.

I'm genuinely surprised that there is such a thing as a pop music chart anymore. I had thought everybody was just copying it from online for free. Why would somebody buy, for instance, his song when they could drop over to Youtube and convert it to MP3/whatever format for free?

Spotify/Apple Music/Tidal Streams/YouTube plays all count in the charts these days

The charts mean nothing at all and never have.

Pretty much in the same mould as Ed Sheeran. Not my thing at all but fair play to him if he's making it.

Irish DJ's seem to latch on to certain artists. Eoghan McDermott and his creepy fascination with Picture This. Ian Dempsey with first Kodaline and the Academic and now Dermot Kennedy.

I presume its payola. Maybe not with McDermott. Apparently he went and got Picture This tattoos....not weird at all Eoghan.

You probably wrote posts like that time I slated Ed Woodward on the man utd forum or the time
I wrote a Nobel prize level poem in the creative writing forum then wrote another completely different Nobel prize poem when that got criticized.

One of the fellas who claimed to be a specialist in poetry said their terrible(sic)

    I didn’t rise to it.

Why are you so full of hate. Is it inadequacy?

Fontaines DC are bland? Go away out of that. I'm guessing you've never actually heard them.

No, who really cares what album has the most sales in the UK on a given week?
