77 shots? your numbers aren't adding up in my head or am I missing something? 77 shots off 14 is 63 nett, which should be 42-46 points depending on the par of the course.

Anyway if you kept up the putting for the back nine it would have been some score.

Should've said Par 66 :) - CSS 64 so only got .3 of a cut on the handicap

3 cards submitted. +22, +21, +15. Previously was off 11, so I'd expect to get about 13 or so. Hard to know though. I had a lot of luck with the +15, but at the same time I've averaged 40 putts a round over the three rounds, so there's probably some room for improvement there.

I was previously off 11, put in cards of +16, +18 and +18 - they gave me +14

Today I matched my best ball striking round of golf ever with as bad a putting display i can remember.

    78 strokes off 6
    13 GIR
    38 putts including 5 x 3putts

    So annoyed but that's golf!

Best score in a stroke competition in a long time.
    87 gross. 72 nett.
    Putting atrocious again.

I've been issued a handicap of 14. That's fair I think. There's very little chance of me getting cut quickly but I think a couple of rounds in the buffer zone are achievable.

3rd game in 3 days and best stroke score this year.
      85 off 15 for nett 70.
      7 pars
      10 bogeys
      1 triple
      1 FIR
      2 GIR
      31 putts. No 3 putts
Tried to play the perfect shot too often and it cost me.

37 points off 19 today. Scratched the par 4 index 1 hole where I have 2 shots, hit a slice off the tee towards another fairway and thought I'd find it handy enough but no where to be seen. Wasn't arsed going back, probably should have in retrospect. It was one bad tee shot after another but I did very well from 150 yards in to get several pars

Two rounds played this weekend, playing off 10.

36 points in terrible course conditions, course probably should have been closed.
started with a big slice out of bounds to be put on the backfoot straight away :(
18 points on the front and back nine. no scratches though which I was happy with.

73(+2) in the last stroke comp of the year, started the complete opposite to the Saturday round, started with a tap in birdie, then par, par bogey bogey to be (-2) to my handicap after 5, was going well until I sliced a drive on the 12th to go out of bounds, then again on the 15th pulled a tee shot OB. happy enough with most of my game but that's the end of the club comps for the year.

Time to start the practice to get a good start to next year.

Played Ballybunnion Old and Cashen courses this weekend.
Conditions were perfect on Saturday morning for the old course. Got 29 points playing off 14. I find it a very tough course to score on, the greens particularly hard to read. But still its a sensational course to play, every shot is a test of golf.

Cashen is a completely different beast. It is far more scoreable - I had 9 GIR Vs 3 on the saturday. The rough is super penal though. Lost quite a few golf balls. Ended up with 32 points with 4 scratches.

28 points off 15, but 6 scratches so not entirely peed off. Wind was getting the better of me. 6 pars on back 9.

A couple of weeks of solid golf in not great conditions.

Was down for the Boards golf society 2 weekends ago. Played an open in Dromoland in windy conditions on the Friday. Had 31 points, with an eagle & a birdie, but a couple of scratches too. CSS was 33 on the day, hit buffer, so happy enough with my days work.

Followed it up with a round in Dooks on the Saturday. Beautiful course & setting, but played in some of the most atrocious weather I've ever been out in. Was soaked completely through, as was all of my rain gear. Was squeezing out my rain gloves regularly throughout the round. Had 30 points on the day, to finish second. Had 3 scratches, so pretty happy to shoot level 2s for the other 15 holes. 32 points took the prize on the day, so again, I wasn't too far off the pace.

Back to my home club this weekend. Conditions were quite patchy, but not terrible. Started poorly, had 5 points through the opening 4 holes, thanks to a bad scratch on the par 3 2nd hole. Round took a turn the right direction on the 5th hole, where I chipped in from off the back of the green for a birdie (that's my 3rd hole-out in my last 4 rounds, so on a nice run with those :)). Managed to pick up a couple of pars on the remainder of the front 9 to turn with 17 points.

Similarly to the front 9, my second hole on the back 9 was the main downer. Was a little blocked out with my tee shot, but could have hit a sensible recovery & given myself a chance of getting on in 3. But was too greedy & left myself in trouble. Could only punch my 3rd out towards the green & found the greenside bunker. Failed to get up & down, and made a double-bogey.

Went on a good run from that point forwards & made some good solid pars on holes where I had strokes. lipped out for birdie on the par 5 last hole, and finished with 20 points on the way back.

81 strokes, 37 points, CSS of 72, so a cut of 0.2, back down to 9.6.

      67% FIR
      28% GIR
      38% Scrambling
      27 putts

Despite a few hole-outs recently, I had been struggling with my short game. Was at the course early enough on Saturday to get some time in at the practice green. Think something clicked a bit while I was there. I've probably been a bit too wristy with my chipping. Was hitting chips maintaining my wrist angles on the practice green & getting a much more consistent strike. Took that out to the course & chipped much better than I had been. By no means perfect, but felt much more comfortable & confident.

Played Saturday for the first time since Dooks,I know it was only a week but it took that long to get everything dried out..Started with a double bogie on 1st, a 3 putt from 6 ft ,greens had been like glue the last time I played as they had been heavily sanded now they were like glass, steadied out after that to finish with 35pts 11 pars 5 bogies 1 double and a Scr on 10th big slice into car park, game slowly coming back

Probably my last qualifying round of the year on saturday past.

All going well, 6/6 GIR but three 3 putts to be sitting +2. Then i think my awful putting just affected my whole game and lost a bit of interest in the round.

      Finished +12 off 6.

Was playing with a scratch golfer who managed 8 birdies but a few bogeys and a lost ball meant he was "only" 2 under for the round.

Played bunclody yesterday in beautiful weather 36pts off 12 with six 1pts, greens had been pole forked nightmare. Had booked online 25e il be ringing pro shops in future. Had drove 90mins so just got on with it. Season all but done sadtimes.

41pts (-1) in Portmarnock Links yesterday
Perfect conditions - not a breath of wind
Only my 3rd competitive sub par round ever - great buzz

    • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 312 ✭✭pakman

33 Points that should have been more. Two balls lost on 5th hole and 18th to deprive me of another 4-5 points. Both shots were to very findable places but after last weeks weather the ball was just eaten up by the ground I can only assume.

Driver is still awful so some visits to the range needed but irons are going well and I'm at least back to sub 90-ish rounds.

Hopefully I'll get things on track before Tulfarris.

2 rounds at the weekend. First on Saturday, last medal of the year. Played 2/3 of the round in pretty awful conditions, once the rain came in, it didn't stop. Wasn't quite Dooks bad, and I remembered to bring out my waterproof bag this time, which held up very well.

Was basically making a 5 on every hole, so was looking like a poor round of 90 strokes. Said to myself, I'm breaking 90 today, irrespective of conditions. Got myself into a position that a par on the last would give me an 89, and managed to make it, so was coming off soaked, but satisfied that I managed to grind out the score. Had no blow-ups at all, couple of pars, couple of doubles, was just bogey golf the whole way around.

      89 Strokes
      33% FIR
      17% GIR
      7% Scrambling
      34 putts

Out in considerably better conditions on Sunday, sun shined most of the day, though was still a bit of wind blowing, and it was cool when any cloud cover came overhead. Ground was pretty soggy after the downpour on Saturday, but course held up surprisingly well.

Played a lot better overall. Short-game was a little hit & miss. Didn't miss any short putts, but didn't really make anything mid-range.

      35 points, 83 strokes.
      60% FIR
      28% GIR
      38% Scrambling
      33 putts

Played terrible yesterday in the medal the course has 3 or 4 monster holes off the whites (par 4's) so off the blues its even worse and my swing was all over the place really couldnt figure it out and my confidence was taking a hammering.. Then on the 15th I had a light bulb moment and my must common fault turning to early! Smashed my drive straight down the middle what a feeling! smashed my 3 wood got a unlucky kick into GS bunker but got up & down for par! Had a brain fart on the 16th par 3 but then parred the 17th index 1 and 18th finished with a 93. 2nd in my class. Not bad I suppose since I didnt play well at all till the end. I was a bit pi$$ed off as I should of sussed it sooner..

On a plus side all my bad rounds these days are low 90's were they used to be around the 100 mark plus I am a member of a must longer and tougher club. I feel I'm very close to a personnel best score but time is running out in the season.. I hate this time of year!

Staying in the buffer the last 2 weeks too not playing my best! hoping for just 1 cut before season ends to get me down to 16/17

      41pts off 18

      87 strokes, 39 on front & 48 on back 9

I’ve changed my driving recently, it used to be “powerful” but with a big fade, now it’s short & consistent, it makes life so much easier when you are on fairway

      FIR 7/7 on front 9, 2/8 on back 9
      GIR 4/9 on front 9, 1/9 on back 9

Par all the par 3’s 3/3
15 putts on both front & back 9

On side note, there was placing everywhere, can I expect a handicap cut?

2 rounds this weekend, reckon the bad weather coming may scupper anymore qualifying competitions.

Sat, 31pts off 12. 7 three putts. Felt like giving up golf.

Sun, 41pts of 12. 0 three putts. Broke 80 for the first time.

      It's a funny old game!!!

    • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 312 ✭✭pakman

Can't hit my driver. I went from not thinking about and hitting it really well to completely unsure and overthinking.

Saying that, I still managed a respectable 37 points on Saturday and my iron play is on point. This game is annoying!

    • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,732 ✭✭✭blue note

33 points off 14 - best round since starting back. Scratched the first strangely - hit the tee shot long on a par 3 and it was where to be seen. 2 doubles (both the putts), 10 bogies and 5 pars all on the back nine. 50 - 100 metre shots killed me. I had 6 in the round and caught all 6 fat. If I was trying to do something ambitious with them I wouldn't mind too much, but once I try a half swing I just hit before the ball. Putting was also a killer, 4 three putts from about 3, 10 15 and 20 feet. And I chipped to 3 - 6 feet 7 times and only sank one of the putts.

I was delighted to get over 30 points, but there's a score there if I can take my chances.

Played probably my last round in current club before changing next season.

Up and down game to shoot +7 which included 4 doubles, two of which were lost balls off the tee and other two just mental meltdowns on other holes. One Par 5 where I had an 8 iron for my second and proceeded to duff it 4 times in a row!

Positives are that I broke my birdie record for a round, including 3 in a row

      5 birdies
      5 pars
      4 bogeys
      4 doubles
