First game back in over a month today. Cracking weather for golf.

    83 strokes for 35 points.
    8 pars
    9 bogeys
    1 double

Par on the last should ensure I scrape a buffer hopefully given CSS has generally been 37 off the whites in the summer months.

The time away from the course showed with my short game & putting. I missed nothing inside 5 feet, but made nothing outside that distance.

Failed to get up & down every time I missed a green & had 36 putts. No 3 putts at all.

If I'd putted 5% firmer on pace I'd have been easily 5/6 shots better. Hit great lines but was fractionally short on a massive number of greens.

Overall ball striking was pretty really good so I'm taking some good positives from the day. Hopefully means that once I get a bit of time putting & practicing on the short game area there's another good score in me before the end of the year.

    31 points yesterday.

Had a solid 18 points on the front 9, but hunger got the best of my on the back 9. A couple of sloppy 3 putts and a silly scratch cost me.

A poor 91 in the Monthly Medal

    JJwoyrh.png
I was due to play Mullingar Open but lost my wallet. Put me in fairly bad form as I was waiting to play Mullingar since I missed it in May. Definitely effected how I played which is something else I can work on I suppose.

Shot 90 strokes, my best ever. 38 points but no cut as CSS was 38 unfortunately. Really happy with my game. Recovered well from poor tee shots to at least get bogey, oftentimes I let it bad tee shots get to me and end up scratching a hole. A couple of 3 putts on the back 9 where I threw away pars, I had hit green in regulation and then got very long putts to within 2/3ft only to miss them. Main thing is I only scratched one hole whereas I've been scratching on average 4 a round in the last few months. Hopefully I can break 90 by the end of the year

35pts in an open in Newbridge on Sunday, My usual downfall with my driving was superb but 5x3putts and a 4putt on the last a par 5 that I reached with a drive and 4 iron that pitched hole high and ran out 18 paces behind hole is killing me.Still haven't broke SS this year and h/cap now 9

Usually start by saying a tale of two 9s but today it's a tale of 3 sixes.
Started with 16 points for the first 6 holes (4 pars, 1bird and a bogey)
    Solid golf off 14.
Then 16 points for the next 12 holes. Scratched 3 holes by losing balls off the tee which really hurt, and lost another ball but managed to get a point. Tough conditions to but thought I should of at least broke my handicap.

First 18 of the year after serious injury. 90 shots for +19 off of 9. Encouraging enough hit the ball well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 312 ✭✭pakman

19 points on the front nine followed by 12 on the back for a disappointing 93 on the day in Kilcock.

Driver let me down on the back 9 and tinkering with my swing to get it right started affecting all my shots.

The honeymoon with new driver had to end but pars on three of the four par 3's was enough to have me happy with my round.

Back garden chipping practice with a tennis ball and the dog as the ball retriever seems to be improving that side of my game too.

Weekend of 36/37/35 points New Forest/Tullamore/Moate and it was the 36 that got me a cut so happy out

Played in the round Slave1 had the 37 points on Sunday morning in glorious sunshine, fantastic weather for golf, couldn't beloeve it a few hours later we weren't able to get out of the car at a gaelic match it was raining that heavy!! Mad little country we live in!!

Got a lesson recently (1 of 3) and praticed what i was taught a lot so was hopful going out on Sunday morning. Tee shot away on the first, second shot was blocked out, third went over the green, didn't get up and down so had a 6. not the end of the world.
Peach of an approach on the next par 3 and got the par.
Great drive on next and then this mad pull hook left for my second shot!! A shot I unfortunately repeated several times during the round. My hours of short game & putting practice paid off and I was getting up and down and out of trouble an awful lot. Managed to kind of sort out the hook to steady the ship, got my drives back on line and the scores started to come. No scratches and no three putts for the first time in years (lot of one putts to save me too) meant i also came home with 37 points. Like all rounds, if the pull hook wasn't there or any other mulitiude of excuses - it could have been much better but I am delighted with the round.

CSS for members is 69 so no cut but most definitely a step in the right direction.

    5 pars
    7 bogies
    6 doubles

played twice at the weekend - 26 points on both occasions.
Felt I was striking the ball super well on saturday but kept running into trouble and couldn't get one putt to drop or even close to dropping

played lutterlstown yesterday - what a gem of a course. Couldn't get the putter going at all at all.

last 2 rounds at home have been a 78 and 79 so both within my buffer and only 1 double bogey in 36 holes.

Glad to have a bit of consistency back and hopefully I can go a few better towards the end of the season.

Just need to tighten up my irons. 7 over par only hitting 5 greens. Chipping is pretty good but it's the GIR i need to improve on.

Played Ardglass yesterday for the first time. Not the most demanding or difficult links courses out there. Only around 5800 yards off the greens but the views are spectacular with a number of forced carries over cliffs.

Played rightly but balls out of bounds on 11 and 12 ruined any chances of contending after a 3 x 3 putts in first 10 holes. Played the last 6 holes in 1 under to recover for 36 points off 6, 8 behind the leader. Hopefully still hit my buffer!

Lipped out for an eagle on the last par 5 (missed birdie to compound things) and missed 6 footer for birdie on 18th after nearly driving the green.

    1 birdie
    11 pars
    5 bogeys
    1 blank/double

To top it all off, met Cormac Sharvin briefly in the car park. Shook my hand and asked how we enjoyed the course before speeding off in his c63 AMG that sounded like a F1 car beside my diesel VW.

90 gross off 14 for a nett 76 that was quite frankly terrible considering the conditions.

    1 triple bogey
    3 dbl bogey
    11 bogey
    1 par
    2 birdies

All will be sorted though with captains prize in 2 weeks......please.

34 Points Royal Tara Open Thursday

Played with a 1HC and a 10HC that went around in 4 over so good golf was played around me.

    sXsRs2V.png

Driver was not behaving for most of the round. Iron direction was OK but the strike just wasn't there on the long irons. Short game for the most part was very good. Putting was OK but not as good as I wanted to be. I only failed to get up and down once, consistently hitting the better pitches and chips into greens from the group so I was chuffed.

Medal on Saturday in absolutely awful conditions.

1 over through three and then dreaded quad on the 4th, index 1. Managed to get to 9 over through 9 with a couple of pars but my irons are all over the place which absolutely killed me. Surprise hooks have me nervous over everything.

I had given up by the 12th and ended with a soaking wet 98, net 82 to finish. Only bright side was getting around in 3 hrs due to everyone playing us through while they took shelter.

31 pts yday with 5 scratches. only 2nd 18 holes of he year so got tired by the 15th. not disappointed with play just need to eradicate a snap hook that took effect for middle of the round

Played Portmarnock Links on saturday. First time around it - its a nice course but not amazing. Started off really well with a birdie on the first. Things quickly reverted to the medium after that. Ended up with 34 points adjusted by the end of the round which included 3 scratches. It was also my first outing with my new set of clubs so I was very inconsistent off the tee especially, once I got the ball into play I was good. Putting was especially good all round, feel like I discovered something (left arm dead)

Playing steady over the last few months, 3 buffers and 0.9 cut since my last confession.

Played monthly medal on Saturday, weather was windy with showers. Finished with 85 (off 17) net 68. Finally a good counting round and a cut of 1.8 to bring me to handicap of 15.2 (lowest by far):)
Also came 3rd in the comp so happy with that :D

Bittersweet in that I had a 9 on the par 5 17th (chip into bunker, chip over green, duffed chip, chip to miles from hole)

Had a 2nd 35 points in a row this weekend. Played Saturday in pretty patchy conditions, but it was probably better than the forecast had originally looked.

Was much more positive with my long putting than last week, but my short putting suffered. Missed 3 putts inside 3-feet which was the difference between a buffer & small cut.

Hitting the ball generally pretty well off the tee & striking irons well. Short game is still showing some rust from the month-long break. Need to just make some time to get to the course a bit earlier & squeeze in some pre-round short game practice.

Captains Qualifier coming up this weekend, so first real proper test of my game in a while (2 rounds since I'm back were stableford from the whites, will be strokes from the blues this weekend)

Hit 6.5 h/c after 29 points on the old links in ballyliffin in tuesday. 4 awful holes but only +3 for the other 14 holes.

Last night hit my best round this year (my best round ever on my home course) in our Thursday open. 40 points off 7.

    2 birdies
    11 pars
    5 bogeys

    2/3 sand saves
    9 greens
30 putts but didn't hole anything outside 5 feet

30 pts yesterday playing The Montgomerie house course in Carton off the whites what a beast of a course it is! had 17 in, 13 out.. most the holes on the back 9 were into a strong wind & most the par 4's were like par 5's & the bunkers my god I dont know how many I hit but it was a lot only failed to get out of 2 :D which I scratched obviously.

but finished with the same ball although its in bits now.. lol.. but I was absolutely shattered after the round!

24 points absolute terrible golf yesterday.

scratch cup tomorrow so hopefully better performance

Two rounds recently. First one was 29 points. Wasn't a bad round, conditions were tough and it just got away from me.

32 today, a mixture of brilliant and woeful golf. Had to try and force it at end to make the buffer, but I'll be another .1 back. Had to par the last to give myself a chance, going oob made it next to impossible. That I bogeyed the hole is laughable, would never have birdied it on first ball. Cant really complain though, i even knocked down a drive. Teetering on the edge of going back to 13 now, at least I'll have an extra shot somewhere

Hope I haven't peaked with captains prize next weekend.
43 points with 2 scratches. 23 out and 20 back off 14....... off the ladies tees too as a fun comp before the big one next week.
    1 Birdie.
    10 pars.
    5 bogeys.
    2 scratches.
    Non qualifing as off ladies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,980 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

Third consecutive round of 83 strokes. Today was the Captains Qualifier though so off the blues & course was set up with some tough pin positions. Was a decent wind blowing too.

Pretty happy with how I played, 7 pars, 11 bogeys.

That leaves me with a net 73 (+1) so should qualify comfortably I reckon.

Generally can't complain too much about my golf from tee to green. But had one 3-putt & missed 2 putts from inside 2 feet which was infuriating.

33 Points in Rathcore Open on Saturday

    20F/13 Back

Played good enough on the front 9, got caught out once with the wind dragging a ball into a hazard resulting in a scratch.

Back 9 was just a battle against the wind, really struggled to feel where it was coming from, seemed to be gusting from all directions. 2 more balls OOB to a bad read on the wind.

Course was in better shape than the last time I played it but still not quite to the standard it was years ago. Greens were super tricky combined with the wind. Short irons were taking a bounce and running through or stopping dead depending on the green.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 981 ✭✭✭mighty magpie

36 points in our captains prize. +6 off 6. Played last 5 holes in +4 so fairly disappointing finish.

Tied 9th out of 250 golfers but beat on countback for category prize.

Still got myself a small cut of 0.2 so handicap currently 5.5.

First round in France and played in Nimes with 34 degree weather and blazing sunshine with a couple in their 50's. Back and forth broken english and french made for a lovely round. "Le Dancefloor" became the new term for the green.

Matched the weather in points with a respectable 34 and 91 gross. A few massive drives in those conditions made it for me. The ball rolled miles when you hit it well. Having dried out water hazards you can hit out of didn't hurt either.

The place was in amazing condition considering water ban but it was a rich club so that might explain it. Its a different golf culture over in France with way more money involved for definite but was really enjoyable to get to play while away.

Won on the 19th in my home clubs Members Cup Matchplay

In the final now, not bad considering I didn't even know I was entered to begin with.

I was 3 up after 9 after playing good golf but ran out of steam. By the 12th it was even after a lip out and two crap tee shots in howling wind.

He got to 1 up for one hole and then it was back even, I played the last 3 holes well to close it out.
