Do men actually find them attractive?

A girl in work got fillers. She's off in Bali now on holiday. The chance of her drowning is next to none. Before getting them done she was a natural beauty, the kind that make you wonder what you hit on the way down. Everyone noticed. It looked unnatural. IMO I don't think they do it for men specifically but because of them bitch*s on IG and things like that. I don't know. I'm lost with her now.

There is no right answer to this question as it is all about degree. It is exactly the same as augmented breasts. They can look and feel absolutely stunning but also grotesque.

Same as lips.. They can look amazing but when it goes above a certain ml look ridiculous.

When it is clear that it's fake that is usually beyond point of no return. But doesn't mean that it can never be attractive.

I remember as a kid looking at the Guinness Book of records and seeing the woman with her neck elongated with gold hoops and cracking up. I found it bizarre that she was found beautiful by her tribe... Similar there was a woman with wood inserted in her bottom lip making it protrude about 8 inches and she was the most desirable... People find extremes desirable.

I don't and I'm fine with that. But there is a fine line between augmentation and body dysmorphia. So as long as it's safe and someone is happy I say rock on... But when it is obvious that it's an addiction (like that girl on eurotrash with boobs the size of carrantoohil who eventually died) then I say... Fcuk. Scary.

ia it true that those injections work by pumping an irritant into the tissue causing swelling?

No, they are usually hylauronic acid, which is something that holds 3 times its weight in water, if I remember correctly.

That double photo isnt comparing like with like. The second image is different all round not just the lips. The eyes are bigger and brighter, everything about her face looks better not just her lips. You can do that with lighting, turning a face slightly, positioning the camera just right and using a different lens will change anyones portrait very much for the better. You can make a portrait look better without Any surgery or even make up.

The before and after photos were made for the cosmetic surgery company so of course they are going to use every trick in the book to make her look better in the second photo. You can make a portrait look better without Any surgery or even make up.

The second pic is framed a little tighter making all her features look larger.

You can generally notice the filled lips.
And then there's the inability to pronounce words properly, it's similar to talking to someone who has a numb mouth from being at the dentist for a month load of fillings.

Most of them look awful. There is a girl I work with that had it done and I didn't notice until somebody told me. But the vast, vast, vast majority look awful

Breast augmentation has been around a lot longer. So most of the work done in that area is better at this stage. Thus boob jobs look much better now.

Lip augmentation in the way its currently done has really only been around 20/30 yrs.

How unwell can somebody be to get fake lips? Disturbing, in so many ways.

Why can't people just accept what they have and endeavour to keep themselves as physically fit and mentally well as they can? That's as perfect, and as brilliant, as any of us can get. This "perfection" rubbish really takes advantage of vulnerable people.

Not at all. Its fairly common. Let people do as they please without judgement so long as they don't hurt people.

They're the funniest looking things going. It's some sort of mental disorder that leads to women thinking blown up blimps for lips actually look well. I've yet to meet a lad who actually likes them either so if it's attraction they're going for, they're going down a bad road.

I know a girl who got them and ruined her face. She used to be gorgeous and now you can't see her behind her lips, it's a real tragedy.

She definitely looks better after. But some people are just really against people changing their appearance with surgery and will always just say they looked better before without judging each individual outcome
Definitely a better lip job than so many of them, but such a shame that she thought she needed cosmetic intervention.

She looked perfectly fine and nice beforehand. Beautiful skin and eyes and hair. And nothing wrong with her lips.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with plastic surgery or enhancements like that if you want them.
While I'm not a big fan of fillers myself and you can usually tell when people have them, it's up to every person to decide themselves.

There are girls out there that weren't given lips at all, they're more small lines. I totally see how someone would be pretty self-conscious about that.
I know a few girls and guys that had surgeries and they all had very valid reason. The most common one was a big, crooked nose. Another one lost a lot of weight, became a PT and got her breasts done (they look amazing!).

Personally I think it's brilliant that there is an option for people to fix things they're incredibly insecure about. Yes generally it's nice to be happy with what you're given but some people really got done bad by the gene lottery. It's so easy to say "shure be happy with your features" when you're born with virtually no lips or a nose the size of a motorway bridge.

No I think it's absolutely terrible that people who have absolutely zero features to be insecure about, like the blonde girl above, feel the need to get an enhancement done. They should be happy with what they've got. Therapy is what you need if you look perfectly nice and think you need cosmetic work.

Different story of course for those who are unlucky enough to have facial features that don't do them any favours, and it is good that the option is out there for them to change this.

And of course burn patients, acid attack victims etc.

Instagram is definitely causing mental health instabilities. Why anyone would want to get them is beyond me. Hideous looking.

Eat well, keep fit, sleep on a routine and stay off Instagram and would be my advice to anyone with insecurities about their body. Most of the time your insecurities are really in your head and unwarranted.

I generally dont, and in conversation with my friends who are mostly made up of people 25+ I don't see many who go for that look.

    Sweeping generalisation:
I think the younger generations, maybe leaning towards the chavier side of society probably go for the look more.

I think that similar to teeth whitening or how men think they prefer women without make-up it's a matter of not actually recognizing that it's been done when done right.

You'd be amazed at just how rampant fillers and botox are nowadays amongst the 20-35 female (and gay male) age bracket. Just because you notice the 1 in 10 that have overdone it doesn't mean the other 9/10 haven't had it done well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,939 ✭✭✭Homelander

Most of them look awful but some are done well enough that they do improve the overall look. As with most cosmetic procedures, we notice the obvious bad jobs and tend to judge the concept on those terrible results. But to answer the question in the OP - do I find those obviously fake, swollen looking lips attractive? Not remotely.

Let me just compare that to gel nails. While I know people are going in about "fake nails" they'd be surprised how many women have overlays over their natural nails and keep it in a natural, short and work-friendly shape. I have overlays myself. Because I'm not bothered applying polish all the time and you couldn't tell they're not exactly the real deal. I need to keep them short for working on the PC but the pretty, put together nails of mine are all lies :D

I just remembered I'm following a girl that has lipfillers and you can't really tell. You'd be surprised how many middle aged women run around topless on the canaries that had either a tummy tuck or their breasts done, and the vast majority of it looks pretty good and not trashy at all.

It's some feat of the industry to have convinced girls against all visible available evidence that those puffed up lips offer anything other than comedic value.
