Remakes

I saw today there was talk of doing a remake of the Princess Bride and inevitably a lot of people are against it.. 'its a perfect movie, it doesn't need a remake', 'its just more lazy movie executives redoing classics', etc.

And at first it seems reasonable, but when you think about it,what is the actual problem with it really, how does it damage the original or it's fans enjoyment of it? No one is forcing you to go watch it, you don't have to pay attention if you don't want to, you don't have to pay a cent towards it if you disagree with the ethics of it, the original everyone loves is still there same as ever.

    Change my mind

When your children reach princess bride age, do you want them to watch the classic film you loved or some disposable film made by marketing that they will think you are a dick for liking even though they only wanted to watch it because of advertising.

You're right, Sylvester Stallone's 'Get Carter' remake is a harmless work of art.

Yeah but the existence of the second won't affect them enjoying the first one

We should start a forum for talking about movies.

The nerd in me wants to ask: Is the new material considered cannon?

First they came for the socialists...

The deluge of remakes, sequels and prequels will continue as long as mainstream pirating continues.

I hope they never remake the "back to the Future" films.

The 2nd one could do with a remake in fairness

If someone said they were gonna remake The Beach, I'd think, yeah, go ahead, the original didn't do the book any justice.
    Or Shutter Island maybe.

    But The Princess Bride?
    The Princess Bride?
    The Princess Bride?

So disrespectful, not to mention the fact that what feckin' eegit would want to even try and play any of the characters?

Where would they even find a six fingered man in this day and age

Ah it's not that big a deal now, it's not like anyone would love it so much they'd get a tattoo of it or pick it as their username or something mad

    I know!
That was some find, what were the chances of needing an actor with 6 fingers, looking for one and actually finding one?
    Wow.

Oh a semi-serious answer, but why? Really? Even when it's inevitably crap, how does it harm the original or your enjoyment of it?

A more retched hive of scum and villainy you will never find

Those Disney remakes of the old animated classics are a disgrace. The only decent one thus far is The Jungle Book. Lady & The Tramp seems to be following that trend of poor movies. The trailer looks shockingly bad.

I present the Will Smith genie of the lamp defence

Will Smith in a live action Aladdin... he might have gotten away with such a travesty when Patch Addams and Bicentennial Man came out but nope he ain't no genie he's a has been getting by on Robin Williams songs and talent now I'm off to shout at the traffic driving by home so late at night, I've got sleeping to do.
