Peak boards.ie. Close the thread. Ban everyone who isn’t have a solemn staid conversation based solely on fact.

Honestly I wonder how some people get through the day.

I didn’t say close the thread, I merely voiced my opinion? Can I do that? Or is it “Peak boards.ie” not to be able to voice an opinion?

No one's asking to close the thread, just asking people to think before making up stories about and insulting the intelligence of someone they've never met who probably feels pretty sh#t about a bad split second decision they made (assuming they were even aware of the issue) and is very possibly reading this. Is it peak boards to ask people to have some decency?

    Close the thread you say?
Why yes good friends I can absolutely do that for you, and I surely will if you keep sniping at one another.
Try to recover the lost of art of grown-up discussion and ease off the personal remarks, thanks very much

TBH I'm holding judgment on the rumours that she drove in with the car on fire. I've heard she went in with a little bit of smoke, I've heard the car was an inferno as we drove in.

But theres been nothing official about what actually happened.

common sense would tell any rational person that if you see smoke or think there is a chance of fire, you do not park it alongside other cars in an area where people could be congregating.

No doubt in this day and age where the majority of people never take responsibility for their own actions, the blame will be laid somewhere else.

How likely is it that the claim will be against the drivers insurance rather than the centre/Car park?

    Very likely.
Owners park cars at their own risk so I presume that still stands in the event something happens their cars through the fault of something outside the fault of the car park.

Has there been any video or photos released of the inside of the shopping center itself? Be interesting to see what sort of state its in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 782 ✭✭✭bot43

Ha, Ive been given a name of who the driver was and where that person lives and what the person does for a living.

The person is completely unapologetic and is blaming the security guard who she told about it and will be suing the shopping centre.

    I hope this is true.

Seriously? Is it true she received a couple of recall letters and ignored them?

I don't think it's been confirmed if the recalls were performed on the car in question - there were three recalls for the same issue on the Zafira B, so it's not impossible that the problem was still not resolved.

I'm going to take that with a massive grain of salt, as I've heard the opposite (which I also am slow to believe) and I'm always more suspicious of unconfirmed stories with juicy detail that seem designed to fuel outrage.

Doesn't even make sense, why would you threaten to sue somebody at this early stage while an investigation is under way when your insurance will in all likelyhood cover you for fire? Sounds made up to me, not by you of course.

From people who work in there and have entered, there is no damage as such except Marks as the door comes in from where the fire was.

According to an article from rte, who interviewed the owner a few days ago, O'Briens was seriously water damaged...

Interesting, I'd heard there was a good bit of water damage in TKMax as well. Given how far apart those units are you'd expect a good few more must surely be damaged too.

Fire insurance works slightly differently to other forms in that you have to prove deliberate negligence or a manufacturing fault. If a car next to yours catches fire and damages yours, you can only claim against the other car if you can prove that the car caught fire because of the negligence of the owner. In this case while she 'may' be negligent in driving in (yet to be proven) I don't see the fire in her vehicle was caused by negligence on her part, therefore the other cars would have to claim from their own insurance. The only other way is if this is proven to be a manufacturing fault in which case your insurer will seek to reclaim from the manufacturers insurance.

I know who Maria Bailey is.

OK folks, lets not speculate about who the driver of the Zafira is. First person to name them or even make a guess/spread a rumour will be banned without further warning.

    Agreed.

Mod makes a valid point, but if you cant make obvious jokes like that Maria Bailey incident then I think i'll just leave boards.

Unless said mod does not know who Maria Bailey is? Or of course there is a colossal coincidence in play and that's her actual name.

I don't get "de feel of de village" stuff that comes out in critisims of the shopping centre. Douglas has a population of 30k, its bigger than Kilkenny City, it has double the population of Killarney. The village name is a throwback to the 60's and 70's. There is one major residential development under construction and another 5 or so at various stages of planning. If Douglas accepted what it is, a major suburb contiguous to a city heading for a 40k+ population, rather than a 1950's rural village that everyone wants to pretend it still is, it could make sensible decisions. Busconnects has huge plans for the area and it could be one of the biggest public transport hubs in Ireland but I know "de feel of de village" types will do everything to scupper it.

On topic the rumour I've heard is that the whole centre has been compromised and may need to be knocked....

In some good news for "de village" the public realm works are underway in the community park and the renders on the hoarding look fantastic.
