i was called up 16 months ago and refused to sign anything. I told them straight out I was there to engage but i had no intention of entering into a contract with them. They told me they couldn't do anything with me and that the dsp would probably be in touch with me. I waited for them to contact but they never did. I was called back in about 3 months after my initial engagement and they tried to get me to sign again. i refused again. my 12 months ended 4 months ago now ive been selected again.

As long as you are in attendance and are willing to engage and listen to whatever information/literature they want to give you there can't be repercussions as you are fulfilling the terms of your contract with the dsp by showing up.
The fact is the DSP can order you can go to a phone shop if they like and you have to go but you don't have to buy a phone. Seetec/turas nua is the same as any other company and like the phone, you don't have to buy what they're selling.
You have a right to refuse entering into a contract -digital or paper. They cannot legally cut your welfare for exercising your rights BUT they have illegally done so. For people they have illegally cut the welfare of, that money was backdated but only after appeals/court orders.

Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate it. Very helpful and informative.

Seems to be a Yes and No situation at the moment. TN's contract with the Govt is ending at the end of the year, but it seems like the Social Welfare office will still refer you to them.

So I was sent to Turas Nua recently. I have read some horror stories about them on here. I have not signed any forms, no PPP or anything like that. I refused to do so.

They didn't make an issue of it and just said basically if you didn't turn up they would have to refer you back to the social welfare department.

As I did not sign anything, what actual powers do they have? As I haven't signed their forms, I cannot be bound to do what they suggest, surely?

If I just put up an appearance now and then, would that be enough for them to broadly leave me alone?

You still have to engage. This will be at the discretion of your advisor. There will be lots you don't have to do, but some things you will. I'm on on my 2nd time with them, 1st time did basically nothing, just catalyst questions and what jobs I'd applied for. This time around, I've done more in the space of 2 months than in the full year the 1st time. I recently did a short course just an hour and a half . I received a phone call from my advisor telling me they had registered me for this course, I said as I had not signed the ppp, how could they do this? I was told that if I didn't do it, I would be referred to social welfare. So, without a signed ppp, you will have a much easier time, but there will be certain things here and there you will have to do.

I wish you all the best.

If you don’t engage with TN to their satisfaction they will simply inform SW that you are not engaging and then SW will take action against you.
It’s not that TN have any “powers”. They don’t. You have been referred to them by SW in order to avail of the service TN offer.
If you don’t appear to want to co operate with TN then it could be assumed that you’re not really interested in looking for work. Looking for and available for work are conditions of a jobseekers payment.
You should really do whatever you feel comfortable with but be aware that although TN have no control over your weekly payment they are reporting your progress back to your local SW office.
