Frustrated with Turas Nua

I've been on TNs' books for approx 6 months now, and getting more and more frustrated with them.

I am capable of seeking employment by myself. Unfortunately since my last role (which I had for nearly 9 years) was made redundant I have been finding it extremely difficult to get responses to applications, never mind getting work.

TN have been of NO assistance to me. They emailed me ONCE about a job that they thought might suit me. ONCE in 6 months.

When I attend meetings, my 'Personal Adviser' looks up jobs online for me. This I can do, and do do, by myself.
My PA is more interested in me filling in assessments so they can cross them off as work done, than actually helping me in any productive ways. When I first met TN I was advised of all their contacts in the field, and the tools they would use to assist me.

They have PC's for us to use, but they don't have the Office Suite on them. So my PA told me I was more than welcome to use our sessions to work on my CV and apply for jobs, but just without Word!

And I can use her PC (which has Word), and I got to do this once, but there isn't normally time as there is another client waiting for her by the time I'm finished the BS assessments etc.

And at the end of this when I do find work (please God let it be soon) will my PA be paid a commission on that fact?? I can guarantee that when I do find a job, it will not be through any assistance of TN.

This has become more of a rant, but surely I'm not alone in feeling like TN is just the next in a long line of money-wasting schemes to appease the powers that be into believing that us unemployed wasters are gaining employment because of said powers genius??

I am about to start with this crowd next week, I have heard awful things about them. I'm absolutely dreading getting involved with them. I guarantee I will find a new job without their help to.

I guarantee I will find a new job without their help to.

Presumably you were referred to Turas Nua because you've been unemployed for the past 12 months.

If you can now "guarantee that you will find a new job without their help" then how come you haven't been able to do so for the past year?

You don't have to be 12 months unemployed for them to contact you. I'm only a few months out of a job and I got their letter requesting attendance.

Just as soon as you get the job and start then you will be able to finish with TN.
TN won’t stop you from applying for the full time jobs you are interested in.
Always, the best way to get rid of TN is to get a job.

When you do get a job without their assistance, they will hound you every week looking for your employer's details.

From what I hear of this shower, perhaps that's how they operate. Annoy people back to work?

As far as I know you are under no obligation to tell them. I'd be inclined to blacklist their number if I was in that situation.

    Why?

They get a bonus for finding you a job iirc

this is what I've heard too, and it frustrates me the most.
The seemingly need the employers details so that they can confirm that you have gained employment with them (and they will check in with said employer and yourself to see how things are going for a while) and so that they can claim their bonus.

I don't think TN is the worst idea, and it does keep you moving. It's difficult job-searching, especially if you have been at it for a while. Your motivation and confidence can wan. It's the execution of the idea that frustrates me.

and good luck on your job search!

    Why?

As other posters' said. Turas Nua collect a payment when their customers/clients get employment. Actually, they collect a payment when the person is in employment for 12, 24, 36 and 52 weeks. They also get a payment when a person registers with them. So, they have the potential to collect 5 payments for every person they have on their books.

That's what i don't understand. I thought these groups were set up for the long term unemployed
I was two weeks unemployed when I got the letter, and they have been hounding me for pointless meetins since.
I pointed out to them that i live 40 minutes from the centre, and it takes a day out of my life to get in there and back with the times the buses run. Just to go in and look for jobs online, or be talked to a lad straight out of college!

I was told 'you must attend all meetings as you are a jobseeker'

    Nazis.

It a bit of a no-brainer. Simply give them the information that they're asking you for and they'll go away!

Why should they get a commission if they didn’t find him a job?

He may aswell send me a few quid because I’ve engaged in this thread!

What difference does it make to him? He’s not giving them the commission.
It’s astonishing the amount of people on Jobseekers who couldn’t find a job, but found one instantly when faced with TN or Seetec.
    Mind boggling.

It should make a difference to all taxpayers. The state is paying them for a job they didn’t do.

Has anyone tried asking them to stop calling and telling them that if they persist that they may be in breach of section 10 of the non fatal offences against the person act, and a complaint will be made if they call again.

"Harassment. 10.—(1) Any person who, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, by any means including by use of the telephone, harasses another by persistently following, watching, pestering, besetting or communicating with him or her, shall be guilty of an offence."

Either that or just block / blacklist their number.

Who do you think pays this shower? The Dept of Social Protection .i.e. The Taxpayer.

The very fact that He/She found work of their own accord means he should block their number or politely tell them to fcuk off.

I agree with your last comment though.

If TN/Seetec are “helping” Jobseekers to find a job, either directly or indirectly, then as far as I’m concerned they’re saving us money in the long run and should get their commission.

Yes but the point is in most cases mine included they are not assisting people and claiming that the positions people secure are with help from them when this isn’t always the case.

I think it’s fair to say that as a consequence of being referred to TN/Seetec a lot of Jobseekers are coming off the live register.
Maybe it was just the motivation some people needed, but it is remarkable how many just found a job so quickly.

Personally I had a part time position and was waiting on a full time position to come up in the same company, I knew this position was only a week or two away but was forced to engage with Seetec and when two weeks after I was offered the full time job they totally took credit for getting me the job, constantly called my employer and even called into my employer to speak to them in person.

They are so unprofessional so can’t say I blame people not being impressed.

when you are sent to Turas Nua / Job Path etc., you are no longer on the live register. It looks like there is a constant drop on the live register, but no way to prove that these drops are due to uptake of people on TN / JB or actually gaining employment.

    Numbers game!!

You are still on the live register when you participate on Jobpath as you are still in receipt of a Jobseeker's payment.

Frustrated with them too for two different reasons. Daughter was registered with them and we live in rural Ireland so I drove her each month 50 minutes each way for a 10 minute appointment. She never saw the same person twice. The only job they advised her to apply for for Christmas work in Dunne's. During this time the the PAS, council and HSE all had open competitions and EO competition for graduates (which she is), they never advised her of this. She applied and went through these applications herself. At her last meeting they told her that all the time she had been with them she had no need to sign on at local DSP office...which she had been doing. So that's rant number one.
Second rant, I've worked in adult ed and guidance for 20 years. My main job is running classes CV writing/ job seeking/ interview prep. They opened a local office and advertised for staff, I assumed I had the necessary qualifications and experience and applied. I didn't even get an acknowledgment of my application never mind invited for an interview. Not impressed with them and think this scheme needs to be rethought

How was she going to get to the public service job every day had she got one of the positions ?
I think TN would have assumed that if she’s a graduate interested in public service positions that she was registered with publicjob.ie as that’s the only way to apply for those positions?

You do not sign on while on their books, and yes you are still in receipt of payments.

In which case, the Ombudsman will tell you to grow up, answer your phone, give the information that they require in order to close your file and, in essence, to stop acting like a spoilt brat.

Yeah because Turas and Seetec should be paid a commission for people finding their own job and not finding for them a job like they supposed to do ;)

No . Your not on the live register when you are on CE scheme but other then that if your getting a Jobseekers payment then your on the register. The live register has gone down steadily since TN Seetec came on the scene.
Once again it’s astonishing the amount of Jobseekers who couldn’t find a job who found one when referred to either of these companies.

If you find that Turas Nua are not following their own procedures or if a member of staff is being abusive to you then you should make a formal complaint to the Manager and then follow the chain of command upwards if your still not satisfied.
The Ombudsman will not hear you unless you have exhausted the complaints procedure and the complaint must be about procedures and rules not being followed or your being treated in an unfit manner.
You can’t complain because you don’t like the rules or you don’t agree with the rules.

In this service statement it says if you find work (it doesn’t differentiate between wether you found the job through them or yourself) that the will remain in contact with you for up to a year it seems.

Turas Nua and Seetec, waste of time and I think some of the employees there think they are civil servants lol

I know 2 people that work in Turas Nua and I know 1 person who attends Seetec. The people I know from Turas Nua came from a sales job and an insurance job, I met them awhile back and they are telling me how they are helping the Government, and if they keep pushing people Ireland will be great etc... I made me excuses and left as quick as possible. Then I know a poor sod who attends Seetec, good guy with brains and 3rd level degree who worked most of life and has to attend this nonsense as he's currently out of work. He tells me mostly goons work in this particular office in Dublin, and if the 2 that I know are anything to go by, I believe him 100%.

the only reason this shower of sh!t are trying to engage with me is so they can get a bonus (undeservedly)

I put myself through a masters and a phd, I was forced to join TN after my graduation, i'll be damned if some little 22 year old spotty scrot with a public admin degree gets a bonus when he literally did sweet fa for me. Every meeting I went to he literally told me there was nothing more he could do for me as I was over qualified for the roles he had.

Hi all I am on X and O's and doing agency work. At the moment and for quite a while I have claimed no money as I am getting plenty of work but this will dry up a bit after Christmas. I got a letter inviting me to a Turas Nua meeting next Tuesday I phoned the number and informed him I was rostered for work he than told me I had to go to the next meeting on the 19th of Dec I told him I would be possibly working and he stated I will have to go or sign off. I have a good chance of full time work as I am on a panel . What should I do with these people. Thanks for your help.

If your not available for full time work at the moment then you will have to sign off.
If the work drys up again after the holidays it will be no problem to sign on again.
