Handbury got sent for this tackle against Kilkenny this year? Do I have this right?

No, there was no free given for that and Reid pointed when he got his balance back, if i recall correctly

I know he got sent off for a high tackle but wasn't too sure/

edit: it was Ger Aylward that he got the red card for.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 603 ✭✭✭Gentleman Off The Pitch

Yeah he was sent off in the 61 min against Kilkenny this year for a high tackle on Alyward but it was harmless enough i thought, cynical but looked worse than it was
The tackle in the photo was worse imo

To be fair to James Owen's he needed to give the red Sunday

He had missed a straight red in 2015 when Johnny Cohen clothesline fennelly along with richie Hogan getting smashed by Daniel Kearney in the QF

He would have been told this no doubt in the dock of the referees committee

The GAA forum has really gone to sh!t if that's the standards of posting that we are reduced to.

Talk of trying to break Barrett's jaw is just utterly ridiculous and contemptible.

Well what was he trying to do then?

No intention of playing the ball. Went to buckle him pure and simple.

People will remember Richie Hogan trying to break Barrett's jaw with an elbow and getting sent off for it. They'll also remember kilkenny players giving up with 30 minutes left and loosing by 14 points.

Pity that Hogan's cowardly act will be remembered more than the 3.25 that tipp scored.

What will they remember the 2012 all Ireland semi final for the injury by Padraig Maher on Michael Rice that went unpunished it finished the mans career, or sporting Lar Corbett trying to get Tommy Walsh sent off. johnny Coen should have been sent off for his tackle on Colin Fennelly 2015 all Ireland, Tannion pulled broke Tj Reids knee in the 2012 replay out for nearly a year with it. Gerry Quinn went to jab the eye out of Henry Shefflin lucky to not to have a carrer finishing injury there as well just a few players that have got injured , also John Mullane belt on a club player from Mullinavatt he was sent off in the match due to the severity of the chaps injury the club had to use the injury insurance for an operation the chap needed and a bright spark from Wexford reckoned on a sunday paper that the club should have keeping it quieter. Also the head was taken off jj Delany in all Ireland final.

appreciated, but if it happened on a Sunday paper, then surely can be kept on public domain?

It can, but my preference is otherwise. PM sent.

Just to clarify, I'm not asking about the incident referred to, I'm asking about the comment about the "bright spark from Wexford who wrote in the sunday papers".

I actually dont hold the missed 65 as the defining factor in that game. What lost us that game was 16 wides, many poor from shot selection and many not under much pressure. Bad wides have been a hallmark of Limerick for years now. Even last years All Ireland final we shot something like 20 wides. If we improve there more consistently we become a very hard team to beat. But we also need to adapt as teams now know how to get at us and stop us.

Well said. I am tired of hearing about that sideline at this stage. There are lots of minor decisions like that during games that go for and against teams, frees, sidelines etc.
The best team won the game and Limerick need to uncover a bit of a plan b for when the short game isn't working. They will be a very dangerous animal next year and one of the favs for the AI.

A rant 19 years in the making, bravo. You have taken bitterness and resentment to a new level.

Another poster said it, and you rushed in to describe that post as factually correct.

That is the truth. Agree ?

not sure i would call 40+minutes and loads of posts rushing in.

it is very obvious the he went in with the intention to settle a score and to hurt barrett. that can be taken as fact

If you want a rant just mention 1973 to the Kilkenny lads. You could pick out every final and find a decision that was disputable

Kilkenny couldn't score goals on Sunday.....thats why they lost...everything else is irrelevant..

Completely dominant in the first half with nothing to show fot it.

I assume that this is an objective accessment of all of the ‘serious ‘ injuries received by the senior hurlers of the national family of senior county hurlers. Would I be right then in concluding that no other county player - apart from the Kil players mentioned above - over the period in question remained totally injury free?

It should have been a KK line ball anyway!!! Paul Murphy hit the ball and it hit the Limerick lad on the back and went out.

A new level in your world maybe but about average in Kilkenny I’d say. They are showing their true colours so much that even former players in the public domain can’t hold it together. That’s the level to which they have been conditioned. Yes, they’re fierce nice fellas when some Limerick guy (who is expecting to beat them and thinks his county has cracked the big time forever) starts fellating them about how much respect he has for them (as happened here) but when they lose.......

They don’t even have to lose. One nut job after Tipperary under 20s got a load of goals against Wexford blamed the referee for the comparatively moderate nature of his own county’s triumph over the same opposition. Bitterness and resentment would be standard fare with them, although being sent home with your a*se in a bin bag on the double on Sunday won’t have helped the mood.

That is the minority of Kilkenny supporters that act that way. Same with any other county tbf. Most GAA fans are able to get along and have reasonable discussions!

Cillian Buckley got away with a yellow for a similar challenge v Limerick in semi final but just because other players got away with it doesnt mean the referee was wrong this time. Correct call and the referee is there to implement the rules not change them because it's an All Ireland final and sending someone off might ruin the game. Other teams have had players sent off in first half and won. Wexford won the 96 All Ireland with 14 men from the first half. Tipperary are deserved All Ireland winners and have the forwards to destroy defences when they get on top.

Just got around to reading this thread now, mighty entertainment altogether, this victory(*hollow) is getting sweeter by the day,A lot of ex kilkenny players have shown their true colours since Sunday,Bitter and deluded comes to mind,Not one of them gracious in defeat including Cody.

The game was 2 days ago. The red card incident has been discussed to death. Some agree with it, some don't. That's always the way with these things and you rarely change each other opinions. Move on, Tipp won, nothings going to change

If anything is to come out of the final Sunday and the completely over the top reaction from Cody, former players and a large amount of supporters, is that James Owens will be getting the Barry Kelly treatment from now on and any game he is down to ref them in, this will be brought up endlessly prior, during and after the game. If there is one thing they do well at other than hurling, is holding endless grudges and using something from the past that has no relevance whatsoever but bring it up anyway to muddy the waters.

Of all the tripe in the last few pages this is the most amusing post... Whinging about kilkenny people potentially whinging in the future and generalising a whole county while you're at it... Whinging about people bringing up something from the past whilst doing the exact same thing yourself in the same post. And to add to the irony this is coming from a moderator!

Look, the sending off was the correct call but was very harsh. Of course a manager is going to be upset and complain over it, especially when worse offenses have gone unpunished all year. Congrats to Tipp the better team won on Sunday, and they've been the best team all year. Let's move on.

    So that's it for 2019
A year that was disappointing really apart from laois and wexford

Galway, Clare and cork never hit the same heights as 2018. Limerick will rue a brutal opening 20 mins against kilkenny and way ward shooting.

Full credit to tipp, they were magical when needed.
They have some great players and finish the decade with 3 titles. Healthy enough. Good talent coming through, they'll be knocking about for a bit

Kilkenny took 4 this decade. But since 2016, the well has dried. No flair to a great hurling county, skill level isn't as high. Hard work and cody toughness keeps them alive. They are very much back in the pack I would think.

It would appear the next decade will see titles scattered amongst Munster counties and galway?

I might add we need the hurling final back to September, minor back to 18 and separate weekends for semi

    Tradition is hard bet
