But it’s near where the person lives.

Has to be in walking distance.

If it's day time, the cafe in Ballyseedy garden centre is nice.

agree, although i hate the new layout!

    Little Islanders/Glountane area

Which out of the three of these would be best for food:

    The Island gate pub
    Al’s diner
    Radisson Hotel

Out of these three I would say the Radisson.

If it’s lunchtime during the week and going for something casual the Zest Cafe in Eastgate isn’t too bad either.

Is the place at the old post office in Little Island still open?

Oh yes, Perry Street? I’m not sure, it’s a couple of years since I’ve been there. If it is open that’s another good option also.

Edit to say it looks like it closed last summer....

Paid a visit to Thali Nepal on Popes Quay last weekend, very good I thought. Will definitely head back at some stage.

Finally made a trip to Joes & Bros this week - would definitely go back.

Three of us there, all order the Notorious P.I.G. ciabatta with black pudding, bacon, egg and sriracha mayo. Went down very well in all cases!

Good coffee, nice menu with a few different options too and the staff were very good too.

Was there myself on Saturday morning after a parkrun and I was full until 5pm that evening after the Avo & Co.

Yep, I think it's pointless coming along with a story if it's not nailed to a place.

Maybe we could stop asking this poster to identify where they live? Privacy and all that? They already said it was very local to them.

No one's asking where they live, just where the hotel was

Hmm. The Elm Tree is vomit.
And sandwiches in The Long Valley are terrible; the bread is of really poor quality {unpopular opinion).

The corn beef one they wrote about sounds lovely. I think I’m going to try some of the places on this list that I have never been to.

The Long Valley is crap I can't understand the praise it gets.
Bracken's do a lovely sandwich though, whatever you want in it and I'm never paid even a fiver, nice crusty thick fresh bread.

I used to love the long valley sambos.
Toasted special, in particular but I haven't been in years. Has the quality dipped or do people maintain that it was always rubbish?

Regarding the bread, I think they used to use Donnelly's bread but that bakery is long gone. I don't think any bakery does a traditional white pan as good as they were. Pana, maybe.

One place on this list I've never tried is Kellys. It doesn't draw me in, but maybe I should reconsider. Anyone have experiences from the place?

Used to go there as a kid, food you’d make at home yourself, it’s around a loooong time and draws the elderly mainly who like their meat and two veg - don’t get me wrong, it’s grand but it’s the last place I thought would be on a list like that.

Bracken's food is top top notch - omg their sandwiches - their bread.. and their cakes.. their apple pie is delish.. as is their coffee cake - all the stuff I have had in their is the bomb..

I just wish it was a bit nicer inside though - its a cafe - as oppose to a coffee shop that serves good food or a restaurant..

    Just my preference..

There was also a breakfast one in the Echo last week that recommended a place in Cobh which closed a year ago. I'm not sure how much weight we can put into any of it!

Hah, what am I blowing on about? I'll leave you to harassing people so, shall I? Useful restaurant recommendation contribution there as well I see.

Two places new to me. FUDI in douglas, went with the kids in tow. Odd menu, mix of pizza, asian street food, pasta, and chipper food. In fairness though, the things we had were all decent enough quality, and not badly priced. I had amber fire prawns with noodles, one of the kids had spag bol, the other had chips and chicken. All fine.

Kinsale has a new tapas place, wine bar, connected to fishy fishy, called the Blue Rooms. (confusingly nothing to do with the Blue Haven). Bit slow on the drinks, only had one barkeeper on, but just teething problems I'd say. Food was good, very seafood oriented.

Finally made it to Da Mirco over the weekend - will definitely be back.

Between us, we had parmigiana, bruschetta, paccheri and rotoll di pollo - not a crumb left after. Service was great too. Would definitely recommend.

Fudi is a real cheap 'n' cheerful choice, great for students etc. Surprisingly big menu.

I had the 4-in-one combo(?) a big bowl of chicken bits, chips, rice and choice of sauce (the sweet 'n' sour is good), and chicken balls, plus a can of coke. Not the healthiest, but I practically rolled out, and it cost about 8 euros. Stupidly good value.

Heading down this weekend. Staying close to cork city, looking to eat somewhere that does good steaks on the Saturday night , not someplace too posh though. Any recommendations. Thanks.

Elbow Lane not much else to really consider.

Had looked at it before but seems they don’t do bookings, only walk ins. Would be nice to have somewhere definite lined up.

Is the Thady Inn too far out for you? Takes bookings, very chilled, does a very nice steak and chips.

Liberty grill, The electric is good for steak too. And spit jack... but you get slices of the whole sirloin.

I agree elbow lane is the best in the city. but the bookings are a pain.
