Connolly on his performance against tyrone last sunday won't pose much problem,i also taught MDmC was fairly rusty .The dublin subs bench is awesome though

Careful what you wish for Connolly played a large role in winning the game in 2017 after being out for most of the season

No sentimentality with Gavin regarding Brogan, not surprised about Rory however. He had a howler in Omagh last week.

    Thought EOG might usurp Andrews

Andrews has a great performance record v Mayo though so it makes sense

Very surprised to see EoG isn't on the subs. No way Philly isn't starting either.

Suggesting something similar happened with Murphy is not accurate imo. If Keegan was keeping him quiet he'd have been left on him if Murphy played in goal.

From my view, Keegan was taken off Murphy as he had picked up a yellow and was liable to get another card the way Murphy and the Donegal lads were going - purely precautionary I thought.

I'm glad to see this. In RTE's buildup to the Ulster semi-final between Donegal and Tyrone, Colm O'Rourke said Joe Brolly sounded like "Nigel Farage on drugs" by suggesting that Michael Murphy is one of the most influential players of the last 20 years, and when queried on who was better, O'Rourke said ... James McCarthy

FFS!!! I think that O'Rourke is the one on drugs if he's making statements like that!! Even Dublin supporters wouldn't dream of making that claim.

Cleaned out . Lol. He got the man of match award

McCarthy was cleaned in the first half, came into it in the second half but only started to look bright once Seamie was taken off and Aidan ran out of steam. If that game had even been a draw, Chris Barrett would have won MOTM - by far the best player on the pitch for either side that day. But, apparently, only the winning team can have a MOTM - especially where Dublin are concerned...

Anyway, looking forward to tomorrow and dreading it. Time is really going to drag until 5 p.m. tomorrow... Hope our Minors can start the day off on a winning note for us and Mayo supporters get in early to cheer them on.

    Safe travels everyone!

In fairness, it is presented at the winning hotel, giving it to the losing team is a nuisance everyone just wants to avoid

I can't recall even any underage final I've been at where the MOTM didn't go to a member of the winning team. Its generally presented with the trophy afterwards. Rightly or wrongly its the done thing in finals

    Nothing specific to Dublin

True, but McCarthy was still an odd choice. Shows how few Dublin players played well that day. What was more bizarre was that he was then in the talk for POTY when he hadn't even been mentioned all year because of the final.

For the record, I think McCarthy is a very good player - I just didn't think he deserved the plaudits he got that year.

Did you watch the game Bandmember?

Did you see the mark and the points McCarty scored towards the end of the game?

There was nothing between the teams at that stage.
Barret had a great game. Kept his man quiet, but he didn't offer an outlet for his keeper when McCarthy got a hold in midfield, when the sh1t hit the fan.

IMO Mayo has been fairly rewarded with POTY, All Stars, YPOTY etc for team that have not won the final. I'm not saying they were not great performances but you should have no complaints imo

In a final when it was required what McCarthy did was MOTM material. That's what separates the men form the boys.

Seats are reserved for the outward journey but not on the return journey.

So it will be a free for all on the way home. May the odds be in our favour

Does anyone know how the parking is for Leixlip Louisa Bridge? I'll be running late for this one and the commuter in might be the best job.

I think you're full of ****e questioning James McCarthys influence and ability but i grudgingly agree on the final. MOTM and the All Stars are given for one or two flash moments (always points) in games. James McCarthy could have been laying down on the ground for the rest of the match (not that he was of course) and he'd still get the MOTM for the couple of points. Its a simplistic view of the overall contest that i don't share.

Its worked against McCarthy in the past though. He's been an ever present and a vital cog in a dominant Dublin team since he was 20 but has only added the points to his game fairly recently. While he was busy doing everything else thats required to win these games Lee Keegan was scoring the odd point and taking his All Star every year.;)

Effortless in everything he does and I'd agree with O'Rourke.

Can’t believe Connelly is on the bench . Some ruthless and short sight of management . The drive for 5 must have completely consumed jim Gavin . Dublin May well get this but there must be some fallout for this lack of player loyalty.
