2017 for me without a shadow of a doubt.

Our best performance in an All Ireland final in recent times.

If memory serves the stats back that up. I remember reading something saying Mayo's KPI's (or the like) that day were good enough to win every final that went before. Don't know if thats true or not but it felt like a high quality game.

    Bad news for Jason Doherty.

    All the best to him.

Terrible news on Doherty. Was flying in the Donegal match. I think we'll miss him on Saturday.

He's got a steely presence that would be a asset on Saturday. Plus there is a dog in him that doesn't give up the ball easy and barks/bites to get it.

Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.

And is a capable long distance shooter who always come sup with a point or two

I guess nobody wants him dropped any more so .......
    Huge loss
So important to us. The bigger the game the more important he is

This is the biggest injury for me . Let’s be honest Diarmuid was not going well anyway and Doc has delivered far more consistently on the biggest stage
I hope it’s not the fatal blow

I fear it will be. We just don't have the same physicality around the half forward line without him.

He’s a tough guy alright . We don’t really have anyone in the forwards with that kind of steel to replace him .

I'd have confidence in Fionn and Kevin getting the job done but we could also see Aido in there yet

Hi all. Does anyone know of a decent bar in Lisbon that will be showing the game on Saturday?

Exactly what we want as far as I am concerned. Last time we had to play in those conditions was the draw with the own goals when their kicking game was rendered useless in the wet. Dublin dont have the bench they had then. They also have massive pressure on them. It gives us a fighting chance.

Hennessy's, near Cais do Sodré station. Watched the 2013 AI final there. Not sure if they still show the matches, but probably your best bet.

    Funniest one ever.

I've been whatsapping my erstwhile Dublin cousin for a bit of old fashioned slagging pre match today.I sent him a funny meme of the Mayo team as the Wild Bunch.

He proceeds to lambast me re the fickle slagging off Aido gets off his county men/women when it suits.

Giving as good as I get.

Proceeds to ask me if I'll meet him to break bread in the house of Lord Aiden O Shea, pardon his misspelling.

Totally perplexed at this suggestion,it turns he is indeed dining in Aidan's manor.. Breaffy House Hotel.

Any suggestions on what kind of Mayo pre match hospitality I should offer him tonight?

Was having a read over in Willie Joe's Mayo blog. I know some people here might also be contributors there. But God, you wouldn't want to say anything negative against our chances over there. I didn't anyway, cause anything is possible after Castlebar last Saturday evening. One chap was basically saying to give up your ticket now if you're not willing to drown out the dubs on noise levels for the best part of 80 minutes.
There's lots of poetic, flowery language of how we're all going into battle together.
I hope Mayo get over the line on Saturday. But I certianly wouldn't be going around spouting that we will definately win because we have more passion, want it more etc. etc.

Watched the Mayo v Kerry game here in July. Emailed them beforehand to make sure they were showing it and they replied after a few minutes.

I don't read that blog myself (as some of the stuff posted there is real Hogan Stand type rubbish and some [some - not all] of the posters.....well......we'll leave it there...), but I would agree with this part of his statement - Mayo supporters really need to be more vocal than they've ever been and not let The Hill get a free run at dominating the sound, especially when they score or get a bit of a lead. Do not be mute or statues or both. Also, I hope that as many Mayo people as possible get Hill tickets and don't let the stewards force them into corner of the Nally like they always do even though they have Hill tickets. Be seen and be heard.

As for the rest of his statement about giving up your ticket.....

It can be an odd place. There's some good posters there but as you said, there seems to be an awful lot of 'flowery' language - it's like some of them are speaking in riddles half the time rather than English. There's also just the same old cliches trotted out all time, 'bring your flag', 'shout louder than the man beside you, we're off into battle'. There's only so much of that ****e you can read.

The moderation is completly over the top too at times. Fair enough, he can't have a free for all there but you know it's bad when you're not allowed to post about something you heard e.g, about a lad getting injured or rumours of someone starting a game. Fair enough it might not be true but even if it isn't, it's not life or death stuff, it's just Gaelic football. As long as you're not personally insulting people then what's the harm?

Lastly, the most annoying thing is the format. You can't quote anybody and it's just a wall of text. Then when a new post is started, all the old chat is more or less irrelevant. Give me this place anyday. /endrant
