Is it a case that possession is nine tenths of the law now in relation jersey number one?

Some good news there and the expected bad news on Doherty. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

You'd imagine Hennelly will keep his spot. Dubs will push right up on our kickouts and Hennelly gives us the best option of a decent knockout stratagy. It would be tough on Clarke and of course Hennelly could have a mare but its worth the risk imho. We simply can't have a meltdown at kickouts or we have zero chance.

    He was
As Clarke has been in more recent games
So a tough call as I said

I’m not sure Hennellys kickouts were so significantly better last Saturday night to compensate for the lack of authority compared to Clarke in the square
In fact we only one 65% of our own kickouts

On the other hand he defo got more distance on them and there was no doubt less panic on them apart from the obvious one

So a decision to be made as I said
Clarke had regained the number one jersey for every championship game until this injury
An injury he picked up catching a high ball further out than the one that lead to the penalty on Saturday night
We lose that when he ain’t there and we also have no full back. He compensates for that.
    However . The kickouts .

So it may be a case of who is best suited to Dublin .
I have a feeling he may stick with Hennelly and if he does that is fair enough . I can see why he might

Definitely a case of horses for courses alright. Robbie did well vs Dublin in the League under the high ball and saved several certain goal shots. He didn’t have as much to do the last day against Donegal but to be fair getting he ball away from the goal as far as possible contributes to that, and not putting pressure on our backs by forcing possession closer to our own goal and having our backs carry the ball up the field.

If our backs can perform as well again there will be less for a keeper to stop provided he can get distance on the kickouts.

Surely can't change the keeper now. David Clarke's injury was a blessing in disguise. I think Hennelly in goal seems to inspire the lads into wanting to show for the ball. You have a fair idea what you will get with Hennelly. If you make a run, there’s a decent chance the ball will find your direction. Unfortunately, David’s kickouts hang longer in the air, adding to the chances that the opposition midfielders/halfbacks will coming crashing in from behind the mayo players, making it easier for them to catch or break the ball. I know the trade-off between Clarke and Hennelly has been discussed to death at this stage. But I think, particularly against Dublin, the deficiencies that Hennelly is known for (mainly under a high ball) versus (hopefully) better restarts – that the restarts are a more important aspect. Unless, Dublin decide to throw O’Gara into the mix, there are not particularly huge me in the forward line, so unlikely they will be trying some high ball tactic. But I think they would put too much pressure on our kickouts for us to be able to compete over the length of the game.
All that being said, it could be a match where shot-stopping attributes could be vital. And Clarke would get the nod in that case.
Huge decision for Horan if both are fit.

In many ways again it might be better if there is no decision to make !
However if something was then to happen with Robbie ...........Schlingerman looks VERY small for a GAA keeper to be quite honest

Anyway I think Horan will probably stick with Hennelly which is fine
We might even have a few more targets for him too. Such a shame Jason Doc is out. They had a good understanding Saturday night

    Must hit the bookies soon
    9/2 just like 2012

Word of warning , there little chance of getting tickets online . After 1 hour the wait list went down by 300. The list was over 9000 after 40 minutes .

Go to supervalue and have a phone as backup .

Went to a centra and 2 supervalus in Dublin. All systems down. Queues of over 30 people in each. Hopefully it's just a minority amount of people and that the computer systems are cheap and not designed to handle a level of traffic above a moderate amount. I hope that in 2 hours, it will all die down, and tickets are easily got.

I don't think this is going to happen.

Ticketmaster seem to be out of them now.

Hopefully tickets.ie have a certain allocation and people in the queue might get them

Are we saying they are sold out? Or ticket sites have crashed....

Used ticketmaster. Extra fee of €4.95 but only had to refresh a couple of times to get a ticket. Upper Hogan 728. Tickets.ie is useless. Was queueing since 10am. Still indicating another 55 minutes wait time.

I agree with all of this except it being a difficult decision. Horan will pick Hennelly. The kickouts will be vital because of Dublin's press.

No tickets available on Tickemaster for Dub Mayo.
Take your pick for Kerry Tyrone!

Where would the GAA be without a Mayo v Dublin fixture! Its been the one game that has saved many of the championships in the last 5 or 6 years.

Trying to seek seeds of optimism.

I'd argue strongly that the Dublin first 15 has improved with not a whole lot of change in personnel.

Same goalkeeper with what appears likely to be a top class successor.

The full back line will pretty much pick itself.

    Cooper McMahon Fitzsimons

Andy has to start as I don't think we can afford to start other than on the front foot and he gave Fitzsimons plenty of problems two years ago.

I have seen speculation O Sullivan will be dropped post the Cork game but I think Gavin will stay loyal to him.Small and McCaffrey complete the half back line.Who will be tasked the thankless assignment of nullifying the threat of the likely footballer of the year.Mc Lough's or perhaps Matty Ruane as a quasi auxiliary midfielder.

McAuley to be kept in reserve to run the legs off a tiring team as has been Jim Gavin's modus operandi in the past contests.

Fenton and McCarthy to front up against the O Sheas.

Up front Dublin hold the aces,Howard is a wonderful addition.Mannion is an improved footballer on his excellence of the 2017 final.

But O Callaghan is the danger man,a now complete footballer who now has a physique that will take some stopping.

I've no doubt in my mind Rock will get the start over Costello.Costello's form has declined from the excellence of the league.Rock has answered his critics with his appearances as a substitute.

Is there any glimmers of hope?As an interested observer Paddy Andrews and Kevin McManamon no longer offer the same threat to the scoreboard. However the likes of Paddy Small could be new super sub ala the aforementioned Costello.Bulger might already be worth a gamble.

I would not be surprised to see Bernard Brogan nor O Gara pressed into action.Old dogs for the hard road.

So where's the glimmer of hope.

Although I've long had a preference for David Clarke between the sticks I think Robert Hennelly is best suited to the task because of the importance of our restarts against Dublin. It does help he has his two clubmates in the middle of the park.

2 years on it's a more onerous task for our full back line to hold O Callaghan and co.That full back line even with Zippy playing his natural game has rarely let us down when it matters.Eoin O Donoghue is some lad to have in reserve,a teak tough Belmullet man!

The half back line picks itself and Boyler is having the championship of his life.Who is Leeroy assigned to?Don't think it'll be Ciaran Kilkenny on this occasion. There are too many threats on this Dublin!Paddy may take the rampaging McCaffrey.

Can we win enough ball in the middle to compensate for our wayward shooting? An onerous task for the O Sheas. Will Diarmuid be fit to contribute in a meaningful way? Highly improbable that Tom will get any game time.

Doc's injury is so unfortunate as he was having a wonderful night winning all those difficult kickouts. He's a huge loss.

So are our forwards capable of shooting lights out?Indeed they are but you wouldn't put your house on it.Fionn and James with their pace and youth have been massive additions this year.Fionn has no fear of physical contact and their pace is capable of causing the Dublin defence some pause for thought. With Doc's injury Darren Coen will likely start and I'm hoping it'll be the day of all days when he shoots the lights out. Cillian will need to offer more from play and hopefully silence the Hill with the accuracy of his freetaking.

My grounds for hope are that our bench is stronger than previously when we'd solely Diarmuid as our sole real option. This sort of contest is made for a fit Donie Vaughan.Ciaran Treacy is a lad who could offer something in a match day 26.

Lots of clutching at straws with the short turnaround but one never knows.
