The WORST Rolex Fakes I've Ever Seen by The Time Teller

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Pjdz-Dg-UE

The best one is about 7 minutes in, 23 karat stainless steel spoon shaped Rolex

Lousy thing to happen to Hartman’s but the shop assistant has taken her eye off the ball there, I spend a lot of time in and out of various jewellers and even with airlock systems in place people still try the old slight of hand trick and it always seems to be a certain type of person as shown here in the video. Normally the staff will be on extra high alert when certain customers come in.
At least nobody was hurt and the insurance will pay out, no doubt the people in the video will have been on the first ferry out of Ireland.

Hate to say it but I think your right. Hartmann’s has probably been the only place where I’ve sat with over 100k worth of front of me a watches and had the sales assistant walk away for a few minutes, everywhere else it’s always one or two items max and they keep them all in sight on the tray

Ireland in general is fairly lax when it comes to security in jewellery/watch shops.

I have been left on my own many times trying on watches.

Never in other countries they are always stuck to you and if you want to try another watch on, they take the first on back.

I've just spotted that O.G has picked up a ban!
Hope it's only a short one.

    @2shea, agree with you.
Very few Jewellers here seem to even use airlock.
Even then it's usually smaller or "custom" places rather than AD's.

A site ban too, must of been a very naughty boy.

OmegaGene is alright, he will be back in a month better than ever. On a totally unrelated note, Private internet access VPN is only 3 euro a month at the moment, bargain alert.

You really can't go wrong with Seiko M. You can get straps from a few sources, online and off. If you're new to things going to a jewellers is probably your best bet as they'll fit it for you.

Thanks dude. What's a Seiko 'M'? Do you have an example of a good online site for straps for that watch? Just so I can make sure Fields are in the right ball park price wise if I order through them :) thanks!

"M" as in shorthand for your username mystic86. :) As for the straps like I said if you're new to things going to a jewellers is your best bet.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I'd hate to think what Fields would charge for a strap.
Amazon or eBay is your friend (even Aliexpress)
You need a 20mm lug width Strap.
I have a few Seiko Presage and all are on aftermarket straps right now. Most expensive being about €20 apart from a Strapcode bracelet on one that was a bit pricey.

It's really easy to change a leather strap on your own, and you most likely won't even need a specialist tool for it. Bracelets can be an utter PITA, but this should be fine. Not sure I'd buy a really cheap leather one though.

I got a few leather straps of aliexpress about this time last year, utter ****e, i have a few straps from barton on the way. No experience of them yet but ive seen them reccomended from boardsies.

I've had mixed results from Aliexpress. Probably 50/50 awful to excellent

Well I popped into Fields today only to be told she enquired with head office for me (since I popped in last week) and they told her the only strap available for that watch is the one that comes with it (the black shiny one). Very helpful

    That is quite frustrating Mystic.
It's a problem with some retailers in that they will look for official/branded straps for their wares, rather than measure the lug size and show you what the have in stock.
It's a telling difference between retailers and actual Jewellers/Watchsmiths IMO.

As for where to buy, for leather I really do think seeing it in the flesh makes buying a lot easier, try a local Jeweller or even Amazon as you can always return it easily.

Does anyone (I'm guessing Wibbs will :P ) have any opinion on the Sinn 155?

I have a 1970s Omega constellation, stainless steel and gold case. Any recommendations on a strap for it? Brown leather preferred.

The Seiko 5 Sports will be available in September 2019, and retail starts quite nicely at 280 EUR.

    Ouch!

Price doesnt seem that bad IMO, good movement, which is in in watches that are much more expensive, nice styling, guaranteed to be solid and reliable being a seiko.

The SKX is 240 (ish) new as it is, and thats with the non hackable & non windable 7s26 movement.

The pricing also fits in well with seikos new pricing strategy, well under the proxpex pricing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 832 ✭✭✭funkyouup

Seems on the high side to me, ive a Seiko 5 with that movement i got for 140 around christmas.
SKX's are way over priced for what they are, its got the cool factor people are willing to hand out over 200 and ignore the movement to a certain degree which is fair enough.
Ive always seen the Seiko 5 range as entry level automatic for under 200ish. The new ones do look good in all fairness and could well warant the increase.

Seiko have reorganised their overall range though which is moving most of their sub brands up a level so there is room to bump up the 5 line.
Typical Seiko though to just make a change or release a new range without the promotional hype any other brand would do.

  • Registered Users Posts: 832 ✭✭✭funkyouup

No screw down crown, ISO Cert and 100m water resistance. If the forum comments are true the skx will be discontinued and replaced by these?

Im just not getting who will be willing to pay more for a new 5, over 300 euros for a dive style watch you cant dive with. Watched a time teller vid earlier and he made a good point, why wouldnt you just go out and get a turtle for that kinda money. Maybe the Turtles will get a bump aswell!

Thats just it, its a dive style, not a diver. its not really marketed as a diver. The marketing looks like they are targeting teens & college students who want a trendy watch, with a few nice faces that may go with various items of clothing.

Besides, If you talk to 1000 people who have skx's, how many would have been used for actual diving, even once while on holidays?
Im willing to guesstimate that 10-20 would be about the max.
I know thats neither here nor there, people will want what people will want, but its an indication that ISO rating wont realistically matter to the vast majority.

Would not surprise me at all! seiko have long since been viewed as an extreme value proposition, their new pricing model has made significant moves to bring the price closer to what the watch may actually be worth. The result is value is decreased as buyers are not getting as much for "free" as it were.

Its a shame, its kind of taking something away from seiko that makes them seiko.

Not sure if this should be in its own thread, but I think here will do for the moment - Does anyone have any advice on keeping our watches clean? There's a good bit of advice on US based products that massively conflict, or recommendations on products that we don't have easy access to in Ireland.

I wear sunscreen pretty much any time I leave the house, along with work being sweaty and dusty, so the grime and dirt builds up very fast and I'm reluctant to use alcohol/soaps if there's a risk they'll wear down the waterproof seals.

Wearing my Steinhart Ocean one on holidays a while back and got a lot of sunblock on it which turned my arm black with gunk. I cleaned the watch with soapy water and a toothbrush and it came up great :)

I picked up a 4 pack of NATO straps for the grand total of £11.89 ;)
Will stick up an opinion of tem at least when I have them tried out.

    Including spring bars and tool.

At this price it is hard to have high expectations! They can only good value.

I've bought cheap Natos off Amazon, they're grand.

In other news I've just discovered the Bulova Computron and I want one immediately.
