Whose transgressions shocked/disappointed you the most?

Every suggestion from a large-scale crime to a misdemeanour that may have happened in your daily life is permissible in this thread.

I think my number one choice is Chris Benoit. He was a well-respected, hard-working, technically adept star in professional wrestling, who had won the WWE title, and was by all accounts a humble and good, dedicated family man.

In 2007, he rather unexpectedly tied up his wife and killed her, along with his young boy, then committed suicide. He has been whitewashed from wrestling history.

I was a teensy weeny bit disappointed with those offbeat shenanigans to say the least!

I believed Tiger Woods was a sponsors dream and never put a foot wrong.

When his wife attacked his car and he crashed it I reckoned she was crazy

    Boy was I wrong

Graham Linehan being a massive transphobe.
John Cleese turning into a Basil Fawlty-esque, Brexit-supporting Little Englander in real life.
Maureen Tucker (drummer with the Velvet Underground) becoming a Tea-Party supporting nutcase.
Billy Corgan just being a massive bellend in general.

    Linehan is bring totally sensible.

He might be right, but I wouldn't call him sensible

Pete Townshend paying for child pornography. I loved The Who and would like to believe his various explanations for why he did this, including that he was doing research for a book and that he was trying to heroically catch British banks taking money for child porn, but the stories are just too far fetched. He even did an interview in which he said people think he's a paedophile because he has a big nose. If someone who hadn't been in a multi-million album selling band came out with this claptrap there's absolutely no way anyone would believe them.

I was going to mention him and Ronan Keating, both seemed so too wholesome I suppose.

Same. Assumed when I heard the very first reports that it was going to be teenage girls which would be awful enough, then it turns out to be what it was...

I grew up in two channel land so Jimmy Saville wasn't a big figure growing up though I would have known who he was. Rolf Harris came as a huge shock as he was the face of Denny rashers and he would have been a lot better known in 80's Ireland than Saville.

No, we had "Jim'll fix it" in my house and we only had 2 TV channels too. We thought he was amazing, my father always told me he was a creep. I had no idea why until he died and it all came out the day after ...... and still is , and a lot more covered up.

Graham Linehan being a massive transphobe.

Someone in the public eye, having the gumption to stand up and be held accountable for their views, views echoed by many people too afraid to be branded phobic by expressing said views, is not a transgression.

    It should be fcuking applauded.

We live in a world now that seems to side with whoever screechs the loudest, fair fcuks to him for bucking the trend.

    For screeching the loudest?

He's a bit militant about the whole thing.

    Linehan is bring totally sensible.

He is in his hoop. Regardless of whether or not being a massive transphobe is good actually, his obsessive behaviour is far from sensible. He's literally lost friends over it. An argument with a fellow obsessive crank resulted in the police calling to his house. The whole embarrassing and undignified episode ended up costing him nearly £30,000 in legal fees.

He's recently taken to randomly lashing out at other celebrities/well-known people on Twitter for daring to not share his opinions...

    Absolutely batshit.

Alan Watts alcoholism, feckless lifestyle and alcohol related death. (from what I can tell)

Took a lot of validity away from his speeches for me.

    Linehan is bring totally sensible.

Harassing people on Twitter to the extent that the police have to be called is not exactly "sensible". Neither is treating trans-inclusive feminists with contempt and acting like he's a superior arbiter of women's rights.

Sure, there are some trans people on social media who are obnoxious and abusive but the majority are fairly normal folk who just want to be able to get on with their lives without being harassed or feeling threatened. Contrary to what Linehan and the people he promotes want you to believe, there's no massive conspiracy to indoctrinate all kids to question their gender. Or any widespread sinister cabal of male perverts who declare themselves female so that they can harass women in bathrooms.
