    summary

north American male inventor, at least 45 and at most 85, so born between 1934 and 1974,
Not in fields or entertainment, sports or science.
    Not a billionaire.
Is ceo or founder of a company which is not a fortune 500 company.

We may not know this person, but we most likely know things that he invented.

    Musing

    That Dyson lad?

    James Dyson, british inventor.

    Here and here
is a list of american inventors.

Males born between born between 1934 and 1974 is what we have at moment to narrow that list.

    Could be Canadian

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,480 ✭✭✭Chancer3001

Maybe we should try narrow down what he invented

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,999 ✭✭✭s7ryf3925pivug

I guess wikipedia doesn't use semantic linking then. Gonna say if he's not on those lists it's an oversight by the authors and not because he's an obscure figure

clue 4: You will know of some of his inventions even if you don't know of him.

So he has multiple inventions, this could help. Was thinking of someone but would be a big push to know more than one of his inventions.

You'd assume it has to be electronic or technical inventions giving his age profile .

Likes of elon musk is too wealthy. Not too many other famous inventors still alive that immediately spring to mind for me

I think most people would be familiar with at least two of his inventions Drug infusion pumps are ubiquitous now and most people know what a segway is.

    Is it Dean Kamen?

    yes!

His other inventions include an all-terrain wheelchair that can climb stairs, a device to let first responders jump to otherwise unreachable locations and a cheap water purifier. He advocates learning about technology and wants engineers to be the new celebrities not actors and singers. Founded the First robotics competition that predated robot wars by a couple of years. His personal wealth is apparently about 500 million. He lives in an eccentrically designed mansion on a private island.

Most famous for the Segway. Not because it is the most impressive or interesting thing he's done but it was definitely the most hyped. I remember reading about his latest invention that was soon to be released. It was to revolutionize the world. Whole cities would be built around it.

The automatic drug infusion pump was definitely more important though..
