You are basically suggesting playing a second league (provincials) after the league. Counties would have 4 games played without anyone knocked out of the championship (in fact you are actually adding teams once McDonagh come in).

You could lose 4 championship games and win an all Ireland. Simply not a runner

What you’re saying is only true of the provincial championships, and if you lose all games there you risk relegation and nobody wants to finish bottom of the provincial championships as you gain nothing.
The entire all-Ireland championship would be knockout, so once it would start you couldn’t lose any match.
Again, part of the improvement is that the provincials and the all-Ireland would be separate competitions, all of the top 12 teams in the country would have a chance to win it, despite what could have happened in the provincial championships.

Also at present we already have a round robin with a final for the provincial championships (you call it a league), so what I'm proposing is not new regarding that part of it.

Slightly aside from discussions on championship structures, the glory of hurling semi final weekend is here. Even though we’re (Galway) are not in the mix, I’m looking forward to this all week.
The cats will test Limerick more than anything they’ve seen in Munster and are, as always, peaking towards championship time. They will test the Treaty to the limit but the confidence of winning one will get Limerick over the line.
The manic enthusiasm of Davy, backed by 40,000 Wexford men and women will be enough for an off color and Bonnar less Tipp. Momentum is unstoppable betimes and it could be that what makes the difference Sunday.
Repeat of 96 on the cards! Great times for hurling again and may we be as satisfied after this weekend as last year.
Safe travels to all going to the matches,

Hoping it’s a great game today, the nearer it gets the harder it is to call it. Limerick to just shade it.

Forgot tipp negotiated the Waterford sweeper with ease, could be a factorv

That's a bit distorted i think as Waterford had to play more than half the game with 14 men, but i would agree in general that Tipperary arent usually inconvenienced by the sweeper system. Effectively it means they'll be playing with a sweeper themselves and Padraic Maher usually makes hay in that scenario, though it could turn out to be Barry Heffernan as the loose man tomorrow. Either way, i wouldnt be surprised to see Tipps "spare" man ending with 0-2 or more to his name.

I don't see this one as being close. KK have been hanging in there all year. Beaten by an underperforming Galway, drew with a wexford team who were very wasteful in wexford park and left KK in it in the Leinster final.

I don't think either of Wexford or Galway would live with limerick on the evidence this year and KK will be the same. Limerick can go through the lines or over the top so KK can't concentrate on winning a particular 3rd which is what they're so good at. They'll need to bottle up the middle third to have a chance and hope their full back line can survive going man for man. I don't see it myself and think Limerick will win pulling up.

Hard to look past a comfortable Limerick win 5 or 6 points but stranger things have happened. Expect Limerick to start like a house on fire, if kk can live with them for the first 20 minutes they'll grow in confidence and have a chance.

Kk hit 13 wides in the Leinster final. Does that not count as wasteful?

Call me old fashioned, but I hope that the eventual all-ireland champions are either Wexford or tipp for the following reason: Wexford haven't lost a match yet this year while tipp have only lost one.

If Kilkenny or limerick win the all-ireland, they'll be the first team to loose 2 matches and still win Liam (I'm not counting the Offaly fiasco of 1998). It doesn't really sit well with me tbh. This is not a slight on limerick or Kilkenny, more a gripe against the current system.

In saying that, I still think it's limerick's to loose.

The best team will win the all Ireland, that's all that matters. They days of teams winning every all match on the way to winning an all Ireland are all but done I think.

Much harder won now as well with the new format too. Best of luck to all 4 teams.

Lets hope Limerick are as off key as the Artane band

Yes but that forward line has struggled all year. They'd need a serious change in fortune today. TJ has been carrying them

Dr. Canning, try Walter 'Walsh' instead of 'Welsh'. It's not complicated.

Limerick fans booing the free taker, disgracefully only county you see do it, explains the yobbish element of some of their supporters.

Anywhere under 15 steps and it wouldn't surprise me if a ref let it go.

The steps rule is a joke.

Might as well get rid of the steps rule altogether, two games in a row Fennelly has took the piss out of the rule.

Seems winning a munster final is not the best result if going for an All Ireland title with the current structure of the championship.

Game over after 15. Kilkenny good and Limerick a shambles. Do something Kiely instead of looking out of your mouth

Limerick are slowly growing into the game. Reckon they'll still win.

A long way to go in this game yet. A limerick goal would make it interesting

Kilkenny after the blistering start are now second best all over the pitch, second to everything, Limerick half backs and midfield on top. Referee isn’t adding to the spectacle though.
