Watched Derry Girls, season 1, thought it was very good. Looking forward to visiting Derry soon.

I've never seen Derry Girls but badly needed a laugh so chanced it there. 3 eps in and really enjoying it, very funny.
Watched all of them. I thought it was funny in places but ultimately a bit repetitive and a tad cliched. I can see why people like it though.

Watched Sully last night. It’s about the pilot who landed the plane on the Hudson River in New York a few months after 9/11. Brilliantly told by director Clint Eastwood and acted by Tom Hanks. Really enjoyed it. 9/10

It was more like 8 years after 9/11 I thought. Hadn't realised that was on there, must give it a watch!

It's typical of Eastwood's later work and the way it's structured is excellent. Having watched it a couple of times (once on a plane believe it or not ) it's still difficult to comprehend that it actually happened.

Enjoying Money Heist Part 3, completely ridiculous plot again but very entertaining!

Finished Stranger Things 3 last night. A very overrated show and nothing new of note this Season. Beginning to feel very jaded and we've only 25 episodes of it.

I have seen the first four episodes of season 3 and I have to say I really like it, a lot better than season 2 IMO, plus Maya Hawke (who works in the ice cream place) has been a really excellent new cast member.

She's definitely the highlight of the season. She's well written and the actress knocks it out of the park. The other characters are well underwritten though, especially Hopper, who they've turned incredibly whiny this season.

Are you not tired of the same plotline, with minor variations, playing out for the third time?

I also think the wee sister character Erica is great fun, as is the relationships between Max and Elle and Dustin and Steve. Hopper has been awful this season, but Joyce has been a lot less annoying so balances that out for me.
The characters in general are pretty thin, and look I am not saying it is earth shattering but it is a lot of fun and the Russian thing has been excellent, and I obviously enjoy the retro look and feel and references.

Daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman! She is the perfect mix of both parents.

    I enjoyed it a lot
    Much better than season 2
    It is what it is
For a person who grew up during that time it’s prob better though

Erica walked a fine line between annoyingly sassy and bringing a fresh voice to the group for me. Steve, Dustin and Robin have great chemistry but they're only one part of the show. Max and El are a bit boring.

I think one of the show's problems is they have too many main characters to explore in eight episodes. The writers clearly enjoy writing new characters like Erica and Robin more than they do the existing ones, like Jonathan and Nancy.

Anyway, you avoided my question; are you not tired of the same plotline? :p Don't you think the writers could mix it up a bit?

I grew up during that time. Nostalgia is a big part of the appeal of the show but it leans on it far too much for my liking.

I dont think it is the same plot line....sure it has similarities it is all linked to the upside down etc...maybe lets see where it goes (I haven't seen all of season 3 yet).
I agree Jonathan and Nancy arent the best having said that
the scene in the hospital with the two guys from the paper attacking them was excellent
    .
I personally love Max and El together, it was nice to see a more normal side to El and for her to have a female friend.

I remember the first scene of season 2, when runaway teenagers from central LA were in a high speed chase, when one of them used telekineses to pull down a bridge, I thought "Yes, their expanding their world and introducing new characters and world building." It ended up being a plot line for one episode the rest of it was the same characters\plot\location as season 1.

Watched one episode of season 3, don't think I'll watch any more. Its just more of the same. Also, the characters seem to be really clichéd and generic this season.

IMO that one episode was absolutely ABYSMAL (Episode 7 I think) I am glad they never went back to it.

The new series of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee is really good.

Last Chance U season 4 was OK, at time it felt like there was no story there. For some reason, they didn't make a bigger deal out of the
playbook for sale and how every other team had it out for ICC

Possibly, I dont remember much of that episode, like I dont remember much of season 2. My point is though that they made no effort to move the story along or attempt any kindof world building. They just re-used the formula from season1.

I also dont remember much of Season 2...and wasnt a huge fan of it.
Season 3 is IMO an improvement (again I havent seen it all) - will have to see how it expands things.

You've only watched one episode of season 3 so how do you know they haven't moved the story along or attempted some world building?

Fair question, I asked a work colleague and he confirmed plot wise and character wise season 3 was very similar to season 1&2. And from the promotional material and trailers, it looks like the same cast and location.

A whole new setting was introduced in S3 where a bunch of the stuff happens. It's based in the same town as well, but there is a whole new setting which aligns with the times in the US.

You're not explaining how it's different though? In short,
a military organisation have built an underground facility in order to open up a portal to another dimension in the hopes of benefiting from that. Some plucky kids and their adult guardians, uncover their efforts and attempt to thwart them.

I can confirm for him that the story (as in the overall story) hardly moves along at all. As for world building, the show is set on earth in the 80s, there is no world building required in any meaningful sense of the word.

The mall? That is a whole new set rather than a whole new setting. Though, to be honest, even that jibes a bit with what was established in Season 1, whereby Hawkins was very much a small town. Now it can support a mall? Doesn't really bother me that much but these are essentially cosmetic changes and don't add much to the show.

I much preferred Moone boy as a retro Ireland throwback.

    is Moone boy on Netflix?

    Hi

I see that series 11 of Dr Who (the new doctor Jodie Whittaker) has disappeared from Netflix as of this week, as they were showing up last week.

    Anyone know what happened?

Finished Black Spot (Zone Blanche) which I enjoyed.

Finished season 2. TBH, I was unsure whether to continue during season 1, but it always had just enough to keep me going. It would veer between po-faced and tongue-in-cheek, a splash of sensitivity and a touch of gore, etc. So it was a bit all over the shop.
It has an incompetent gendarmerie squad in a tiny forest-encircled town, each with interesting characters who are dealing with a spate of kidnapping/murders. Throw in local thugs, eco-warriors and a hazy supernatural entity, and there is an interesting mix, with nicely added red herrings.

There is of course the familiar trope of the seemingly only doctor in the hospital- who quadruples as the coroner (not too uncommon I suppose), the forensics scene expert, and GP, who not only seemingly works 24hr shifts constantly, but has that scene usually reserved for the newly introduced hero, or brand new tough character; the drinking of all those shots at the bar as a new record, while being hardly drunk at all.

It's one of those. But it is fairly watchable nonetheless. Season 2 increases the supernatural factor to a satisfactory amount, so that it comes from the background to the foreground by the end of the series, giving it momentum for a 3rd. I look forward to it as a decent filler between the heavy-hitters.
