Barclays change phone app logo to pride flag. Some people unhappy

So personally I couldn't care less what my icons look like. But curious what anyone else thinks?

There are a good few new app reviews added stating that some people don't want political or social ideas "pushed" on them, and they will now change banks. ie Being "forced" to have the pride flag on their phones.

Just to use a completely ridiculous example, would it be ok for a bank with an anti abortion belief to change the icon to a dead baby for a week?

    Is this madness?

Edit: it's just made the daily fail now

I have nothing against the pride movement, I do have an issue with it being forced upon me.

I don't take part in any pride parades, I don't wear any rainbow lanyard at work or sport any clothing etc. Barclays can support the movement too but why force that upon me? I have no interest... It doesn't make me a homophobe either.

If somebody does not want political or social ideas pushed on them, respect that. A lot of companies seem to be jumping on these movements as a PR stunt. What was their stance before the movement became mainstream?

Or why not put an Israeli flag or Palestinian flag on it?

Or better still, why not bother getting involved with all of this PC palaver and just sell your products or services.

    As can its customers.

Joking aside, I'm with the previous posters. I don't give a hoot who does what with who, but I find the marketing ploys of all these companies to be very fake.

Should be an option for whom ever wants it.

Poor form for any company/corporation/institution to foist its views on others.

You're right, it is a completely ridiculous example.

As a gay man I find this bandwagon jumping by corporations a tad nauseating. How have they contributed to the LGBT cause? Don't mention "awareness"... Now I know how the Christians must feel about Christmas...

It's meant to be... That's the point...I wanted to make sure no one thought of it as a comparison..

    Not without consequence.

I'm a raging heterosexual and I don't feel like it's been forced on me.
It's just a company jumping on a fashionable bandwagon. For example, every year during the 6 Nations every company has some rugby reference.
It is the way of things.

Exactly. If my bank posted an anti pride logo I'd simply leave them. Nothing stopping Barclay's anti pride customers doing the same.

False equivalence. Try not being disingenuous.

No where near! I know which brands have always supported the LGBT movement, I know where to spend my money!

There was a barclays in Ireland over 20 years ago if I remember correctly. St. Stephens Green. I was working in the UK at the time but was a barclays customer and one of the contact addresses was for a place down there.

Just the latest social good vibes movement for soulless corporations to cynically exploit.

Oh yeah Apple you're so right on and virtuous what with your support of Western civil rights movements. Pity about your mass exploitation of cheap eastern labor though. Not exactly a consistent position morally speaking.

You don't have to be "anti pride" to not want it's symbol on your home screen.

You don't have to be "anti equality" to not want pride stuff shoved down your throat by corporations.

Do you remember when it was "what 2 consensual adults do in their own homes is none of our business. It doesn't effect you either way". People could get on board with that, even if they found it repulsive.

It's not really like that anymore, is it?

I love that it offends the Daily Fail readers!

Well now calling it repulsive is not exactly minding your own business
