if you use Twitter mute all words and hashtags associated with it ... done
Don't click on any news links asssociated with it, don't switch on the TV channel whenever it's on.

I haven't seen any of it, thank God. Wouldn't be my thing, so don't watch it. Also missed all of the women's world cup as well. Bonus.

I saw a 'news' story recently about how some airhead from it doesn't like Davis Attenborough documentaries. It was a page long article. You'd think they were talking about something that mattered.

That's the only thing I've ever read about it and it was enough to last me a lifetime.

Anyone see the execrable Ciara Kelly article.
Maura is apparently someone to admire, according to some sources.

You couldn't make this **** up.

Love Island fans get so defensive when the show is criticised. People aren't always going to have opinions they like.

Ffs, I'd be fascinated to know how she is to be admired.

Not a single chest hair on any of the lads. They're more groomed than the women.

Its like big brother used to be ,or i,m a celeb, etc a tv show that gets good rating,
young people like it, so its in every news paper .
Do,nt watch it, news papers need a good tv show to get readers.
Game of thrones is gone, so this is the new tv hit.
Also its on every night so ,theres always some new item to write about.
    Just ignore it.
Is it a big suprise a tv show with loads of attractive young people flirting is
    popular.
Even the gaurdian has articles about it, how awful its is etc
for the last 20 years ,there have been awful reality shows on tv,
no one has to watch it, theres plenty of good drama,s , documentarys
    on tv.
Theres going to be a american version on cbs ,
i wonder will the american version be even worse.

How about commissioning Fight Island? An MMA themed game show on a sunny island, similar to Gladiators, but with members of the public actually fighting. I came up with this idea last year, and tried to pitch it to producers, but they ignored it.

I have read worse ideas. I would have a weekly champ who gets challenged the following week by a new contender.

Make it watchable though, MMA is too rough and won't sell to a wider audience. Then the advertisers don't want to know and then your idea is phucked.

If you had like cage fighting, throw in a few water traps, a bit of cannons spraying foam etc , you could be into a late Saturday afternoon filler called " warrior champ" or some other shight. All it takes is one producer to say yes, I wouldn't give up on it yet.

If at first you don't succeed..

That's pretty much The Ultimate Fighter

I don’t understand why people have such disdain for it amongst the plethora of brain dead tv that’s on offer. It’s literally just another reality tv show. No different to the likes of Big Brother, First Dates yada yada. It’s actually fairly tame compared to the likes of Geordie Shore which could be quite grotesque.

Sick of it... getting it in Google News feed, work colleagues talk about it.

    I don't give a **** about the damn thing!!

I've only heard about it, but familiar enough with the reality TV concept. Only because my OH watches TV.

Anyway, I just want to comment on this thread as a way of contributing to the dialogue of how people can manage this vast flood of dumbed down and consumerist media content that seems all so pervasive.

I would prefer not to have a TV in the house, but my OH likes the content. Fair enough.

The way I work it is that I subscribe to radio shows that I do like (bbc and rte) as podcasts so that I am not exposed to the intrusive advertisements.

I also use YouTube a lot for audio and visual content, so have switched to Vanced so that I can access the same content without advertising, and to listen with screen off, usually on headphones.

When I call to my parents, who watch TV, I find it so odd that they leave the TV (rte) playing so much advertising at an increased volume level without muting it.

    Adblocker for Web browsing also.

It's not that I'm opposed to advertising per se, I just find most of it is not customised enough to my interests, and without these steps, I can imagine my content bloated with celebrity gossip content like love Island etc.

I wouldn't be into that type of thing, I prefer relaxing after my morning workout with the Financial Times and a Faberge Egg.

I actually had to go out of my way to watch it..
A few of the lads in work were going on about it (full grown men mind you), and where I'd usually go well reality TV is retarded, what are ye at?, I said I'd attempt to watch it..got through about 10 minutes of it..
Shur like, if that's what you're into fair enough..I'd question your cognitive ability, but shur, off with you..

I don't watch it myself. I'm aware of it because I hear people chatting about it and, yes, the Internet seems full of Love Island click bait, but I have fck all sympathy for the OP because they are talking absolute rubbish.

If you don't watch it, don't talk about it and don't click on newslinks about it, then it's very easy to avoid. If you don't have the imagination to do even as much as that and prefer to focus all your energy instead on hating something so trivial... Well that's pretty boring really, isn't it?

Because its braind*ad sh*te and the more sh*te thats on tv the less good tv there will be as this kinda crap is so cheap to make compared to an actual good tv series and it's annoying how bad it is as other than some pretty faces there's absolutely nothing likable about the people on it. There irritating people yaking on about superficial nonsense. I know to avoid it but the fact that some people would prefer love island to something well written like Chernobyl tells you a lot about some of the human race.

I've never done heroin. I'm still sure it's not a good idea.

I personally hate the show and what it stands for, like the ilk of Geordie Shore and The Valleys it's purely based on vacuous idiots running around the place getting annoyed at or falling in love with other vacuous idiots.

However I dont really care enough to regularly comment on it, people are gonna watch what they wanna watch.

    However...
Why dontcha move to Hate Island then bro stop killing our vibes just cuz you don't have abs and are too bald to get a sick fade with a side part and can't afford lip fillers and only your Mam follows you on IG and she doesn't even like your posts.

If this sort of comment is derived from that show then whoever created it should be launched into the sun via rocket.

It's possible to watch and appreciate both love island and Chernobyl...I have.

Sometimes you just want to watch something mindless and fun, my go to for that is come dine with me. What I am saying is, it is what it is.

I think I'm more sick of people being sick of it than I am actually sick of it.

Yes its mindless and people want to switch off but is it fun? I never watch come dine with me but I can see why people do, cooking and watching people mess a meal up can be interesting. When you ask people why they watch love Island they say it's about irritating but pretty people talking about there feelings. It's like the Kardasians.. how can anyone care about what there winging about.
