How to avoid everything Love Island

I don't watch the programme mainly because it's absolute braindead rubbish but I get jealous whenever I see talks of it online etc. These people are essentially millionaires now because they are goodlooking.

I am constantly reminded. For example I go to rte website and there's an article with the Irish girls face. I looked up the instagram before and she has half a million followers. I just get jealous someone goes from normal to wealthy...particularly when it's not for achieving anything other than being attractive.

Every news site seems to have articles about it (I don't click into them).

Here I am stuck in an office for 40+ hours a week with 4 weeks off a week house sharing with idiots while I near 30.

So, how does one avoid it all?

    Is that you Francis?

Girl from Longford isn't special, there's better looking women on every halting site in the county.

If it makes you feel better, I'm outrageously good looking and not quite a millionaire yet.

All I know is, theres a thing called love island. I know no more than that.

If you want any help in how to know nothing about something, you probably shouldn't subscribe to my news letter.

Its garbage TV, but easily avoided. I see the odd instagram post from spin 1038 about it but that's it.

Sounds like you've it pretty well worked out if you ask me.

Looking forward to Love Island Ireland. I hear they are renting a house for it on Inis Mor. Doesn't matter how good looking you are when you're wearing rain proof gear and enough scarves to stave off a frostbitten nose.

Some of them have killed themselves if that makes you feel any better?

Here's how to avoid it: don't watch it, don't click things about it, don't be consumed by bizarre jealousy and resentment towards people who don't know you exist and have no bearing on your life. Maybe in reverse order.

Go on maternity leave and move house - haven't been able to watch TV in about 2 weeks with the moving, TV not set up yet, and the baby who just won't go the f*** to sleep.

You don't have colleagues who talk about this stuff and the other parents you meet are also too sleep deprived to watch that rubbish.

Though having a baby just to get out of watching Love Island is a fairly drastc step.

The dumb chav has a better life than me. In a villa becoming wealthy. :/

Because I know what it's about. I've happened upon enough tv reviewers and daytime tv interviews to know what it's about.

Its a poor reflection on todays society that people become celebrities and furthermore millionaires based on their looks and vanity.

I guess its us the public that are feeding such nonsense. I think we would all be a lot happier if we switched off from it.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 47 ShlugEireann

Step 1: Make a thread about it.

Well I knew that was going to be a reply, but that's like replying to a question about how to get over an ex with "step 1: create a thread about it."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,225 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

    It's easily avoided.
You don't watch it, read news articles, etc.
Some people like the drama tough. They give out mad about threads on here, people on Twitter and people in reality but normally I find these people seek out the thing they want to avoid!

Go to the rte website and it's one of the 4 stories under the main headline...

Scanning over it is enough to be reminded of it.

That's your first problem. Its like looking for an intelligent look at the days events from John Joe the alco up the road who shouts at cats.

Love Island is actually a peninsula.

So you look at the RTE website and think Love Island is braindead!

They are plenty of stories on the site that people don't like but they don't read them.
    You've got to toughen up.

I think it takes a certain type of individual to be drawn to TV shows like Love Island and Keeping Up With the Kardashians etc. and more often than not it is usually the braindead vacuous shallow type. The world is full of them.

It’s easy to avoid, no? A lot of people I know watch it and I still know the square root of fück all about the show. Its name, that’s it. Any time stories about it appeared on my Facebook feed or IG suggestions, I’d just hid them and now get nothing to do with the show suggested to me.

It doesn't make me feel better but it should make you feel worse if you are a consumer of these shows.

Look for a better job that you enjoy and can afford to move out and enjoy your life. Then you won't be worried about anyone else's.

Thanks for the opening though, if you don't tell people you don't watch Love Island, are you even not watching it?

Maybe i'm just old and grumpy but i think it's sad young people view these people as interesting and some even aspire to be like them. I guess it's all part of the dumbing down of society.

I was in the pub at the weekend with a bunch of lads and they were all on about Love Island.
