Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I might be missing something but how does having the names help?

If the candidate is already in Revenue he/she may wish to ensure that there are no conflicts of interest e.g. a previous manager.
Revenue staff are generally very interested in finding out the interview board. Probably the first question you will get asked if you tell someone you are through to interview :)

Has anyone filled in the form yet? I'm trying to decide whether to use some of the examples from the video or new ones.

Best of luck to everyone with it. I'm getting excited for the interview

Any movement on the 2018 panel?

I was thinking of using the same ones, it's the same questions and they would have been the best examples so I don't think it would make sense to give worse ones for a final interview...

Would the interview panel even have seen our video interviews or is it just a way for the HR team to separate people early on in the campaign?

Yeah I reckon this as well. I'll be going with this approach as well, if I ever get started...

200 words is an insanely short amount to be able to summarise an example. I'm also finding it really hard to do the "summary of experience to date" as it all feels very general...

    • Bullet points!!
    • Experience to date RELEVANT TO THE ROLE & COMPETENCE
    • Prioritise the most competence-specific / eye catching stuff to create a platform for you to tell the story you want at interview
    • Ability to be concise is its own competence in a competition like this
    • Good luck!!

Thanks that's exactly what I was thinking about the examples those are the best ones I have.

Does anyone know will there be technical tax questions on the interview? Should we brush up on the legislation just in case.

This is my first time applying so I'm not on the 2018 panel hopefully you get called before you have to go to interview.

Is anyone up in the first batch?

Unlikely, unless you’re unlucky enough to be spoofing on about imaginary transfer pricing experience in front of a TP Specialist who decides to call your bluff.

But your examples should insofar as possible be able to demonstrate that you understand tax legislation, and can identify and deal with issues that arise. That’s a large part of the job of an AP in a taxes role in Revenue.

No there won't because it would make too much sense for that to happen.

Hopefully everyone got their form in and are looking forward to the interviews.
Anyone in the know about the flexi time for new grade 8s. I know they were trying to get it reversed? Is there usually a bit of flexibility in the department with regards to this or not at all?
    Thanks.

It very much will depend on the PO and the demands of the particular job. Some people might have a small team in one location, others might have a big team spread across 2 or more locations.

At the end of the day, if as an AP the PO needs to be nitpicking with you about your time & attendance, something’s very wrong somewhere.

Thanks Barney very helpful as always.

I personally have no problem giving over and above when required and am more than used to this from the previous roles where staying late was the norm rather than the exception. I personally would much prefer a shorter break and finish earlier but I guess if its a requirement of the job its not a dealbreaker. If I get on the panel and offered that is!

Any movement on the 2018 panel?

Have you emailed panel placing recently. ive emailed and phoned and i have been given no update as to where i am now on the panel. yesterday i was told that they wouldnt tell me as if they gave me a place it could change again in an hour. Frustrating

  • Registered Users Posts: 38 Anon31985

For those still on the 2018 panel do you have to apply again in case the panel expires before you get placed? Excuse the silly question I'm new to this process.

Has anyone had their interviews? Hope it went well.

Thanks that is what I thought alright.
Did you find it very tough. Sometimes things turn out better than we think. Fingers crossed for you and sure you never know you might get lucky and get a call off the 2018 panel before these interviews are over.

Anyones guess as to when results would be issued.

What was particularly tough about it? I've no idea what to expect at all!

The last time seemed more basic stuck to examples. questions alot more detailed this time. Both panels were tough i believe. Mine included an external HR individual, like a dofg with a bone.

    Ugh, dreading it now.

Did they give any idea of when you'd hear?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 414 ✭✭Emma2019

Also were they all questions related to your competency examples or did they ask you general tax questions or anything left field?

    Thanks!

Maybe she was trying her best to get you to answer all the question to give you the best possible chance? Maybe I'm clutching at straws. You've done it once that will have stood to you.

External HR individual, with a substantial chunk of his career spent in Revenue...

I think I had this person.

Best of luck to those still waiting and hopefully the results won't take too long to come out.

Don’t take it personally, I’m hearing the same reports of “rough treatment” from anyone who had that interview board, so at least they’re treating everyone consistently...!

I didn't say anything about rough treatment just that I think I had the external HR person. How did you find it barney? Any guesses on when we will hear?

I’m not in it, I have friends & staff who did it. You’ll hear before the end of the month, surely. The panel will be finalised very quickly after interviews conclude, it’s just a question of how soon the staff in CSD (given the time of year and number of competitions running etc) get around to sending out the results...

Oh my mistake barney. Thanks. Fingers crossed for your friends and staff.

I found it tough. The board gave nothing away. Also found that they asked very specific questions, and a lot of my planning about what to say went out the window. Not a good sign!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 414 ✭✭Emma2019

Yeah that was very tough I found. Definitely left with the impression I wasn't good enough.

I felt the same about the way they asked the questions. My prepared answers didn't quite fit and I was trying to bring in bits and pieces everywhere.

  • Registered Users Posts: 204 ✭✭nazzy

I found it tough but fair. They were very engaging throughout.

I think I struggled interpreting the questions on occasion. Your mind goes blank and it's hard to think under pressure. They didnt really focus on my form as much as other interviews would have. Very general questions about experience and 'what would you do if...' scenarios.

So yes EVERYTHING I prepared went out the window. Completely different to last year.

I'm thinking it was tougher than last year but I cant remember much. I felt happier last year. And if I failed it, its cos of leadership right off the bat.

    Relieved it is over!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 204 ✭✭nazzy

Tick tock tick tock. Every day is torture!!!

I'm sure it'll be soon but just would like the wait to end. I'd say they are flat out with a few panels going!

  • Registered Users Posts: 377 ✭✭ThumbTaxed

Disappointed with that. 20 years working in big practice looking after merges and not making the panel.

You obviously missed the tongue in cheek aspect of my comment since you actually spelled 'mergers' wrong. 🀣🙊🙊🙊
