Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Do we know current seedings, or do we have to wait until Top14 is completed?

Oddly the draw takes place before the Top14 final, so unless I'm missing something we won't know who the Top14's top seed is.

Current rankings, which I'm assuming are correct. I didn't make this list myself.

    481269.png

That +22 for Leinster and -22 for Glasgow is the Pro14 final I would guess.

Looking at the criteria, the tiers are decided by league finishing positions, what are the European rankings for again?

Instead of seedings i think it it tiers that they are organsied into. Leinster will be tier 1 anyway and Glasgow may also be Tier 1. The runners up will be drawn to see which two get into tier 1 if i remember correctly.

There are no European rankings anymore. Wherever those came from, they're unofficial.

Well, group of death is now almost automatically the pool that features Racing as 3rd/4th seed. Something along the lines of Saracens, Munster, Racing and Bath could potentially come to pass.

Leinster, Glasgow, Racing and Bath is do-able as well?
Theres a chance of s tasty group right enough..

Racing and Montpellier the bottom two seeds from France. Not going to be handy trips for higher seeds at all.

Leinster will need to draw a Pro14 team in the bottom tier right? (Benetton or Ospreys)

Clubs from the same league will be kept apart until the allocation of the Tier 4 clubs.

    https://www.epcrugby.com/2018/06/19/pool-draws-2018-19-heineken-champions-challenge-cup/

Potentially some tough trips for Munster...

No, you can only get another team from the same league when you get to the fourth tier. So the Irish sides can only get Benetton or Ospreys.

Why are there still options? Are these picked out of a hat on the day?

Yes, 1 losing finalist has to be a Tier 2 team.

Yes, 1 losing finalist has to be a Tier 2 team.

And one losing semi finalist has to drop into tier 3?

If Ulster drop into tier 3 then Leinster or Munster are guaranteed to draw Racing/La Rochelle

If Ulster and La Rochelle both drop down
i.e. If Exeter drop down to tier 2, Saints have to remain in tier 2 too, so Ulster and La Rochelle would drop down to tier 3.

They can but if Ulster drop down Leinster OR Munster will get R92/LAR.

One could get Quins but the other is defo getting one of the other 2

Saracens are the team to avoid in Tier 1, so from a Munster perspective we want as few English clubs as possible in Tier 2. Ideally Glasgow are the Tier 2 team as they would be ineligible to draw Munster if allocated to Tier 1.

If these scenarios are not possible let me know!

    Best case scenario:
    Exeter Chiefs
    Munster
    La Rochelle
    Ospreys

    Worst case scenario:
    Saracens
    Munster
    Racing 92
    Montpellier

    yes both are possible

    For Munster

1 will be Sarries/Exeter or Toulouse/Clermont (cannot be Glasgow or Leinster)

If 1 is French Team, then 3 will be Quins or Saints
If 1 is English team then 3 will be Racing or La Rochelle

3 cannot be Ulster or Connacht

We can have any of the Tier 4 teams

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,899 ✭✭✭✭Riskymove

Leinster a bit more options until the seeding finalised

2 will be Clermont/Lyon/ La Rochelle or Exeter/Gloucester/Saints

If 2 is French then 3 is saints/quins
If 2 is English then la Rochelle /Racing

    Any of 4 possible

From my perspective, the best draws for Connacht would be:

    Marketing:
    Clermont
    Northampton
    Connacht
    Bath

    Chance of progression:
    Exeter
    Lyon
    Connacht
    Treviso

    Worst draw:
    Saracens
    Clermont
    Connacht
    Montpeillier

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

    Lyon, Saints, Benetton please.....

It'll probably be Clermont, Saints and Montpellier though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,576 ✭✭✭bennyl10

Pot 4 has some super tricky teams this time around

Benneton, if they can carry on half of last years form, will be one to avoid, as would Montpelier.
And Sale are such a mixed bag they can easily spring a surprise..

Ospreys probably the most 'gimme' team in that pot!

Lyon can't be top seeds unfortunately.
I think my preference would be Clermont, Northampton, Connacht, Bath

Better away games, and good chance of big crowds at all 6 games with proper fans
